Exhilarating and utterly gripping, the Haven series is an action-packed journey full of suspense, magic, mystery, and intrigue.
    A Stranger Magic (book one):
Sam Dalcome thinks he is so average that no one ever notices him, until he discovers a mysterious stranger outside his home. Bewildered, he tries to uncover the stranger's intentions. But Sam is sidetracked when he and his friend, Travis, discover a secret passageway deep in the town's quarry, which leads to a hidden cavern. What they uncover next will not only change their lives forever, but will uncover the first clue to a deadly Dalcome family secret. Alisa wasn't thinking about herself when she left Haven, she was thinking about her children, Sam and Sarah. The Great War had already taken her husband, Rylan, she would be damned if she would let it take her children too. But what Alisa didn't count on was her inquisitive son and his friend, Travis.

    BOOK 1:
I am a big fan of Fantasy Fiction and quick âteen readsâ, I enjoy reading and mixing it up with a variety of genres just makes it even better. Okay, so letâs start with the positives, what I like about this book. Iâm not huge on short stories most of the timeâI tend to want more detailsâmore informationâjust well more. That being said, this book coming as a group (I got the collection of one and two together) really helped me not feel like I was missing out.
This seems like it really would be a great teen book. The story line is easy to follow and the characters come across as realistic and understandable. This book was full of suspense and magic and was based in a small town, I mean who wouldnât be pulled into that (even just a little). It was fast and suspenseful and I was quickly drawn into the story.
However, there are quite a few errors that kind of gave me some hangups.

Great Story. Not so great narrator.
I hope in the future if Roger Wayne picks up a series that has books before it, he will take the time to listen to them before deciding how to properly portray the characters. I have listened to all of the books in the Elemental series that come before this book and they were narrated by different people. Having already listened to the story of these characters, each has their own personality and were portrayed as such. The book Secret, which was the installment directly preceding this one, revolved around the character Nick Merrick. Another character that had a lot of involvement was Tyler. I thought the portrayal of Tyler was great in the last book and Roger Wayne shot that all to hell. Why did he all of a sudden have a southern accent?! Wtf?! And Roger make him AND Gabriel sound like COMPLETE idiots when they spoke! Roger Wayne should have at least listened to some of the preceding books to get an idea of who these characters really were because this almost completely ruined the book for me. You can't completely change a character at the end of a series. I was thoroughly disappointed in the performance for this reason. The portrayal of the other characters was fine but her REALLY screwed up the story for two MAJOR characters in this book. I really wish Charlie Thurston or Graham Halstead would have narrated this book as well.

    Hopefully not the last drop!
Fun, fantastical and addictive story, and I was disappointed to see this is the narrator's only title - I am sure we will hear more of him soon, a new talent to watch out for!
    Very Engaging Read!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Great fictional read, if you enjoyed The Hunger Games and Divergent you will most likely enjoy this story as well. Definitely the kind of book you'd want to read in one sitting!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes.
    Couldn't stop listening!
If you could sum up The Last Drop: The Last Drop, Book 1 in three words, what would they be?
Great book with a fantastic narration. While the author does a great job of creating a world for us to dive into, the narrator, Austin Rising, really brings the story to life. His captivating narration had me listening for almost the whole 13 hours straight. Each character had such a distinct yet realistic voice that at many points I forgot it was the same person narrating the whole time. I look forward to him narrating another book.
Have you listened to any of Austin Risings other performances before? How does this one compare?
Unfortunately he doesn't yet have another that I could find.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If it weren't for my boss telling me that I needed to complete my work by a deadline, I would have listened to this 13+ hr book in one sitting.
Recommended for young adults and older
In the not-to-distant future the world has used up most of its drinkable water through pollution and the results of global warming. The military has erected fortresses around the remaining fresh water sources, but only protects its own and their families. The thirsty hoards outside are left to die of thirst and starvation.
The ruthless General Cade protects his family, but at a high cost. Brutal and erratic, he beats his wife and children. But what choice do they have, stay in fear or die outside. Well, there is one other choice. Leave the planet for another chance on the recently discovered earth-like world only two years travel away. The only problem is, the natives arent that welcoming, and water again is scarce.
The several love stories interwoven through the story bring us an understanding of the natives and the brutality of the military humans. Desperate to survive, both sides will do what they have to, to save their people. Cooperation might have helped both, but it is far too late for that.
The Last Drop is a fantasy novel disguised as science fiction. Fantasy allows all us to believe all kinds of magic and powers without question, Science Fiction requires some essence of plausibility. This novel stretches the science too far to be believable.

Adventure, Romance and Mystery in a Unique Fantasy World
I don't know who I am. I don't know what I am. All I know is that I'm being hunted, and this world is not my own.
Lost in a world full of monstrous fairies, a troubled 16-year-old has to find out who she is and why her memories were stolen before she is found by those who want her dead.
She takes the name Memory and knows she has just one goal - to find her way home, wherever that is. But this land is strange. No technology to be seen, and iron is banned thanks to a pact the humans have with the magical creatures who share their Victorian-era world. In her T-shirt and torn jeans, Memory knows she's different even before she performs impossible magic.
Haunted by her past, chased by a dragon, wanted by the king, and stalked by the strange, handsome savage who seems to know her, everyone is after Memory, and she suspects it's not just for her eye-catching outfit. Her forgotten past holds dangerous secrets that will challenge everything she believes and risk the lives of everyone she loves.

    An imaginative read.

    An imaginative and engaging read.
What would you do if you awoke in a strange place with absolutely no memories of who you are!! Well that's what Memory has to deal with. She awakens to find herself face to face with a girl she doesn't know, a world she never knew existed, no memories of who she is, a savage that seems to know her and an affinity to magic that she never in her wildest dreams would of imagined. She is thrown into a fight for her life with no idea of why she is on the run. What follows is an action packed and engrossing read!
Character wise: Memory is a hard character to grasp at the start because you don't get a sense of who she is. You find yourself on the journey to finding out who she is alongside Memory, which I liked.
Then we have Eloryn. The girl who finds Memory and is on the run from wizards. She has lead a sheltered life and is now on her true path to become who she was meant to. I liked Eloryn, she is a sweet and innocent girl but is brave when needed and helps Memory.
We also have 2 different boys, one is the savage who seems to know Memory and Roen, who is a noble but living in secret. Both of the boys were well written and developed and I loved finding out more about them.
Plot Wise: It's quite slow to start but once it gets going, it really flows. We have magic, mystery, wizards, dragons and plenty of danger to keep everyone satisfied.
The world building was amazing. I loved the world Mem wakes up in and the author describes it perfectly. I loved the different magical beings also.
Anyway, overall I really enjoyed this and loved the audio. Em Eldridge did a great job with the girls and distinguishing between them. She gave each character her all and it showed.

    Slightly confused and disappointed
Review 3.5 rounded up to 4*
Having previously read The 5th Wave, I was looking forward to continuing the series. I decided to download this in audiobook format, having listened to book one in this way.
This audio book is again narrated by Phoebe Strole. However, she is joined by Ben Yannette this time instead of Brandon Espinoza. They both did a wonderful job in bringing the story and the characters to life. Their voices were lovely to listen to. I would definitely consider listening to other books narrated by them.
Cassie (short for Cassiopeia) Sullivan is a wonderful character. I really liked her, she has a lot of spirit and determination. She seems to have grown up some in this book and is not as whiny or full of angst.
Ben "Zombie" Parish is another wonderful character. I really liked him from the beginning. He is quite bright and determined, not to mention charming. Still injured from Ringer's bullet, he is determined to get everyone to safety, though fighting infection.
Ringer is still an enigma to me. I can't seem to figure her out at all. Is she a friend or a foe? Her actions in a certain situation had me scratching my head.
This book has a completely different tone to the first one. Notably, it is no longer told through the eyes of only Cassie, Ben, Sammie and Evan, now Ringer has a say and I must admit that I found this a little confusing, as she seems to have become the main character in this book. Cassie and co are relegated slightly into the background for more than half the story, which I found a little disconcerting, though Evan has more page time, which I enjoyed. There is also a new character introduced, though I am not sure if she added anything to the story apart from a little backstory/history with Evan and as a threat to the group. I loved meeting Poundcake and Dumbo again, and getting to know a little more of their history, especially Poundcake. His tale is not a happy one but, I found him to be exceptionally brave; especially near the end.
For me, the story is bogged down with metaphors about the title and is lacking in the intensity/danger that made The 5th Wave so exciting. There is even less romance too, as Evan and Cassie are separate for most of the book. There are several twists that surprised me though, so it wasn't all bad. I enjoyed the story, but felt disappointed that it didn't grab me as much. Sequels are tricky. They can either exceed the original book, or disappoint a reader. I had high hopes about this book but, unfortunately, it didn't meet them.

For fans of The Future of Us comes an engrossing story of two teens, whose love for each other is tested by time and fate.
Lucas and Juliet couldnt be more different from each other. But from the moment Lucas sees Juliet, he swears he remembers their first kiss. Their first dance. Their first fight. Juliet doesnt know whether to be afraid for herself or for Lucas. As Lucass memories occur more frequently, they also grow more ominous. All Juliet wants is to keep Lucas safe with her. But how do you hold on to someone you love in the present when theyve begun slipping away from you in the future?
    Critic Reviews:
"Well-developed and multidimensional supporting characters contribute to the books even pace. This romance novel has elements of science fiction, yet remains true and authentic to the intensity of feelings adolescents experience with their first loves." (School Library Journal)
    Members Reviews:
    Heartwarming and full of charm
Reminiscent of The Lake House, I Remember You is a beautifully written, completely engrossing and emotionally powerful YA romance with elements of science fiction. Orbiting around themes of destiny, time-travel and sweeping, timeless, all-powerful first love, it's quite a charming and heartfelt book. I really enjoyed reading it.
Juliet and Lucas don't know each other, but from the very first time they meet, Lucas starts remembering things about their relationship. It's more than a vague feeling of familiarity, more than a dejavu, he remembers specific events - kisses, intimate moments, fights - and as the story progresses, his flashbacks start to unravel a love story that is just as beautiful as it is tragic, and just as sad as it is filled with hope.
Does it manage to pull of the sweeping romance it aims for? For the most part, I believe it does, yes. The plot line gets slightly convoluted at times, and like with most time-travel love stories, it suffers from certain cliches typical for the genre, but if you won't set out looking for plot holes and flaws, you probably won't find many. Some suspension of disbelief is advised, but even more picky readers should enjoy this story. It's not overly sentimental or cheesy, it's satisfying and well-written, and really quite convincing, despite the slightly far-fetched time-travel premise.
Bottom line is, if you like quite intense teen romances with lightly drawn Sci Fi premises, such as The Future Of Us or Time Between Us, you will probably enjoy I Remember You a lot. I thought it was a nicely balanced, heart-warming and memorable novel in the vein of Nicholas Sparks, and I know I will be reading Cathleen Davitt Bell's next books for sure.
Romantic, read in one sitting, love the premise.
Loved the premise. Not sure if time travel, parallel universe or what but the fact that Lucas feels he is remembering their relationship even though she has none of the same memories made me but it.
It also draws a bit on the forbidden love aspect. She is brainy and has goals for going tho law school. Lucas is from other side of town, he is a jock. A hockey player which I love since only sport I follow.

Her decisions will test her courage, her heart, and her beliefs. Who can she trust? Who does she love? And most importantly, who will decide to be?

    Too religious.
The heavy Christian messaging was really annoying and kind of made me want to stop listening. I probably won't buy the next book.
Dont waste your time and money
    Any additional comments?
Remake starts off as a dystopian novel staged in a society where over population is said to be the cause of a killer virus leading to the demise of the human race.
Nine is part of a batch of young kids created as part of their no more free procreation plan in which batches of babies are made by the makers at a chosen pace, thus limiting population growth.
The children are held back from reaching puberty until their 17th birthday at which point they undergo a remake allowing them to alter any and all physical characteristic choose to become male or female as well as choose their future occupation.
However, soon after we are introduced to this world Nine is torn from it, and the book continues in what can only be described as a conservative puritan lecture of the importance of sexual purity, family values, and having lots and lots of kids, all masquerading as a poorly written love story.
All in all this is a bad story.
    it was ok
It had a lot of potential to be a good book but I didn't like it

    A quick read.
    Any additional comments?
This was quite an enjoyable and different Dystopian/Post Apocalyptic read. It had some really strong points and some weak points so for this review, I'm going to list my likes and dislikes.
    Dislikes.
I think my main dislike was that there wasn't enough information. We never get to see exactly what the "Event" was that created the world they now live in and why the need for the scores.
We don't get a proper explanation of the hybrids. I think they are a scientific thing but I'm not sure because it wasn't really explained.
We don't get an explanation of how people get their scores initially. I know they can up their score with their usefulness but how do they get them at the start?
So ya, basically, it's lack of information and world building that are the main problems.
    Now onto my likes.
I loved the idea of the scores. The idea of being Zeroed was unique and different.
I loved seeing the hybrids. The combination of animals and their abilities was awesome!
I loved the characters. Charlie is a good solid hero. He believed strongly in the unfairness of the system and was willing to stand up for others no matter the cost. He has a high score but doesn't let that influence him. He lost his brother to being Zeroed so knows what it feels like.
I loved the plot. The system, hybrids and indeed Meritropolis brought a uniqueness to the Dystopian genre. The plot flowed well and was pretty fast paced.
In all Meritropolis was a quick and engaging read. While some elements were underdeveloped, there was still enough in the story that kept me interested the whole way through. It has a lot going for it and I'm hoping to see more from the characters in the future!
I've listened to quite a few audios narrated by Mikael Naramore and he always does a great job. He distinguishes characters easily and gives the right inflections when needed. I loved listening to this in audio and definitely think it was more enjoyable!
    * I received this for review from AudioBookBlast. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*
    Problematic, but not without merit...
In Meritopolis (the city and the book) people are given scores based on their attributes - skills, looks, intelligence, fitness etc. General usefulness to society.

Revving up the Mytholog & Ramping up the Challenge
Christina Farley pulled a rabbit, or rather a Blue Dragon, out of a hat with Gilded; was there anything left in the hat for Silvern? You see, one of the things that made Gilded such a fun, fresh read was the use Korean mythology juxtaposed to modern day Seoul, South Korean and the international students populating this world. So, its sequel, Silvern, had a bit of a challenge; the world Christina Farley created so well is now, comparatively speaking, old hat. Can Silvern generate the same level of excitement with that newly minted shine dulled a bit with use? No, no it can't. Instead it goes even further, generating a whole new level of intensity with established relationships going deeper, a much more involved romp in the Spirit World and a foray into North Korea. It is a slightly darker, more intense world with our protagonist Jae Hwa having to deal with issues and decision making with which no 16 year old ought to have cope. If you thought Jae Hwa was between a rock and a hard place in Gilded, she's between mountain and fire in Silvern.
As I often do, I went between the Kindle and Audible versions (using Whispersync for Voice to keep a smooth transition). Greta Jung did a fine job narrating especially within the dialog. I loved her Marc who came off with a bit of smooth, cool voice without being arrogant. I did notice that the fluidity of the dialog didn't always carry over to the non-dialog reading; I don't remember this being an issue in Gilded, but the pacing within the non-dialog parts could be a bit stilted and awkward. I'm not sure if this was to help clarity, but I didn't hear as much nuance and emotion on the non-dialog narration as when there was dialog between characters. Overall, however, Ms. Jung narrates the work well, conveying both the English and Korean cultural elements well. I look forward to Ms. Jung's narration of the rest of the series.

    loved it!
Would you consider the audio edition of Silvern to be better than the print version?
Yes. There are just some books, for me, that are more vividly experienced with the audible vs print. This series is one of them.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Silvern?
There were so many, and they ranged from that intense ending, to "normal" experiences, like the N.K.
