    Mechanically great
What did you love best about The Inventor's Secret?
I like the alternate reality. The characters were each well defined.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Linette: I like her firery style.
What about Leslie Bellairs performance did you like?
The performance was well done. She identified each characters well with her voice.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    No
    Any additional comments?
This is the first steampunk book I have the opportunity of reading (listening to). I enjoyed the alternate reality story line and the eclectic characters. This book is written for a TA audience. As an adult, the story came through as immature at times; especially when it addressed Charlotte's infatuated feelings. I addressed those with a few rolls of the eyes.
Sometimes it was also difficult to believe that a young girl who was not raised in the ways of society, found it so easy to play the part of a debutante. I was expecting more conflicting emotions and feats.
I enjoyed learning about the different classes and how they intertwined. Although there were several main personas in the story, they each were unique in their own way. They contributed to the tale as needed without bringing confusion as to who is who. The descriptions of the different apparatuses used in the book were quite clever.
Overall, I enjoyed this quick read.
    A good read. Entertaining.
I enjoyed this book a lot. It got me hooked quickly with the steampunk theme and alternate universe. The only flaw was the readers voice for the character Grave, it felt too childish for me and I found it annoying at times. But for the rest of the characters she voiced well for their personalities.

Contemporary teen fiction with romance, secrets, scandals, and ESP from the author of Ten Things We Did (And Probably Shouldn't Have).
We weren't always like this. We used to be average New York City high school sophomores. Until our homeroom went for flu shots. We were prepared for some side effects. Maybe a headache. Maybe a sore arm. We definitely didn't expect to get telepathic powers. But suddenly we could hear what everyone was thinking. Our friends. Our parents. Our crushes. Now we all know that Tess is in love with her best friend, Teddy. That Mackenzie cheated on Cooper. That, um, Nurse Carmichael used to be a stripper.
Since we've kept our freakish skill a secret, we can sit next to the class brainiac and ace our tests. We can dump our boyfriends right before they dump us. We know what our friends really think of our jeans, our breath, our new bangs. We always know what's coming. Some of us will thrive. Some of us will crack. None of us will ever be the same. So stop obsessing about your ex. We're always listening.

"Mlynowski continues to make comedy look easy in this smart and frequently hilarious novel, which features a collective first-person narrative that fits the premise like a glove... Filled with heartbreak, hilarity, and some brutal truths, Mlynowskis novel will leave readers thinking about the gaps between our private and public selves and the lies we tell others and ourselves."

"The multiple characters are remarkably distinctive, and the plot moves along briskly, combining family drama, complicated romance and friendship turmoil into a compelling view of teen dynamics."

I'm Too Old & Just Not Young Enough to Enjoy This
Would you try another book from Sarah Mlynowski and/or Erin Spencer?
I love Sarah Mlynowski! I've enjoyed several of her Whatever After Series audible books with my daughter to initiate her love for reading. I've also read Bra's and Broomsticks, which I loved as well. Her books are light, witty, and fun and embrace what I typically what I love about Sophie Kinsella books. They are just refreshing, whimsical, and delightful.
Would you be willing to try another one of Erin Spencers performances?
    Sure.
What character would you cut from Don't Even Think About It?
Well there are 22. If we can obsolete about 17 of them that would be a great start.
    Any additional comments?
The premise of this book I believe was great. The execution left a lot to be desired. 22 students developing ESP was too much to take on. Possibly it should have been a collective of 3 no more than 5 students. If this was Ferris Buehler and his crew the ramifications would be AWESOMELY entertaining. The 3rd person narrative leaves a lackluster. I know ESP allowed them to read each others thoughts but I feel like a first person narrative could have better captured the why behind their thoughts.

    Sehr lustig

    Publisher's Summary:
Braedyn is a normal girl just trying to survive high school with her two devoted friends, Royal and Cassie. Together they're doing a pretty good job of shrugging off the slings and arrows cast their way by the popular crowd when a new boy, Lucas, moves into the house next door. Suddenly Braedyn finds herself falling in love for the first time.
But as her 16th birthday approaches, Braedyn discovers humankind is at war with the Lilitu, an ancient race of enticing demons that prey on human souls. Her father is a member of the Guard fighting against the Lilitu - and so are the new neighbors, including her crush, Lucas.
As her world starts to unravel at the seams, Braedyn learns the right answers aren't always clear or easy. And as for "good" and "evil" - it all depends on how we choose to act.
Inspired by the ancient Mesopotamian myths of Lilith and her offspring, Thrall explores first love, strong friendships, and taking on adult responsibilities against the backdrop of powerful supernatural forces and life-and-death stakes.

    Excellent!
Thrall is an amazing book. Starts out with a pretty normal teenage girl about to turn 16: small group of friends, dealing with the bully cheerleaders at school along with the jocks, and suddenly running into a hot guy who makes her flush. This quickly changes. Braden is introduced to the world of Lilitu, or sirens, and her entire life is flipped on its head. Being told that she cant be with the guy she wants, and not being able to tell him why, is an awful thing for a girl with her first crush. Having her body change uncontrollably and in an unwanted, but sudden, way is just one more thing that she has to deal with.
I love how the author doesnt fall into the trap of the whiny teenagers. Teenagers today are a lot more grown up than they used to be, and listening to/reading books with super whiny teenagers just drive me crazy. Thankfully, Jennifer Quintenz did not have this problem. The teenagers in the book are pretty much just like the teenagers I run into at the store. It was very true to reality, and I liked that. I definitely give this book 5 STARS!!
**The only problem I had was in one chapter, the audio overlapped itself a few times. It was very distracting.
    Outstanding
I ended up having to return this book because it was skipping. I was able to listen to half of it and then was so in love that I bought it at the book store. The story line keeps you on your toes. I wish I had been able to finish the book audio, it helps me to imagine better but even paper was incredible. I found myself holding my breath in parts, other parts I could not put the book down to sleep. This was a real page turner, hopefully they will work out the bug. I am going to get the next one and hope that it does not have the same issue!
    So so
The reader was not a good match. It needed a younger voice. This reader had a pleasant tone and quality just not a good match for this book. This impacted my interest overall I fear
The story was so so. It didn't engage me terribly. I finished the book but have no plans to continue. The story didn't flow well. It just wasn't terribly interesting.
    audio book thrall
loved it can't wait for next book only one problem person who reads the book has no real emotion no excitement otherwise very good

Rather mundane story, not very scifi
I'm not sure why I was committed to finishing this book. While it was not bad, I can definitely say it was not good. It seems that all books I have read by Scarrow lack a certain depth of plot and character. It is almost as if the books are aimed toward *very* young adults (age 13?).
I can definitely say I will not read the rest in the series.
If you are looking for a science fiction heavy book about time travel, this is not the book for you.

    Members Reviews:
    I liked it a lot
The story was very good and I am looking forward to listening to the rest of the series
Maintaining the standard for the series
    Any additional comments?
As in the Vampire Academy series, the spin off (which centres around Sydney from the original series) is centred around heroes that are a little too stalwart and villains that are a little too mean. However, the more complex character backgrounds and exploration make them a little more believable. I particularly liked the way in which Sydney's prejudices were explained and gradually challenged throughout the book.
The plot is engaging, and this along with the development of the supernatural world (we become more familiar with witchcraft, and also the origins of the Alchemist 'society' in this instalment) is the main strength of the book. The quality of the writing is what lets the book down. I found I couldn't ignore the frequent use of cliches and repeated phrases, which really detracted from the experience in places. I think Emily Shafter is a very good narrator, (although I will always prefer an English accent) but naturally the similarity in the tone of her voice for the repeated parts makes it more obvious than it might be in the written version. The alternative voices given to Adrian and some other characters, added to the quality of the listening.
On the whole I enjoyed the story and would recommend it to fans of the Vampire Diaries (written) series or the works of Cassandra Clare.
    Fun but terrible English accent!
    Any additional comments?
Loved the VA books so thought I'd try these out too. I find It quite difficult to identity with Sydney's character as she is extremely straight laced and completely dim when it comes to social situations. Perhaps it's just hard to see her as a strong lead after the fiery Rose? However this series is great fun to listen to, and good for a bit of escapism. Now all I have to do is get used to Adrian's terrible English accent. Some of the pronunciations seem to have been pulled from nowhere, particularly irritating is the addition of r to random words, in no county is the word have spoken as harve. Still it's not cockney so perhaps I should be grateful!
    Raptured
I literally cannot wait for the next instalment. I absolutely love the characters especially Adrian!
    accents
the story was just as, if not better, than the first. I cannot wait to listen to the next one.
