The teenage girl was the first victim. Her throat cut to the bone, she didnt stand a chance. Her mother, at least, had time to fight back. Briefly. Called to the crime scene in leafy Wimbledon, Maeve Kerrigans first thought is that this is a domestic dispute gone badly. But the husband is found lying bleeding and unconscious in an upstairs room. As a criminal barrister he insists hes the third victim rather than their prime suspect, even if hes a man who makes enemies easily. The only other surviving family member is 15-year-old Lydia. She was the one to find her mother and twin sisters bodies - and the only witness Maeve has. But she isnt talking....

Excellent police procedural
Where does The Last Girl rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
One of my favourite crime novels of the year
Who was your favorite character and why?
Maeve
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Definitely! I have been longing for a well written, well narrated, gripping crime thriller and this definitely fits the bill. I was gripped by the storyline and really didn't know where it was heading. The characterisation is convincing and it is superbly narrated by Caroline Lennon.
Any additional comments?
I would suggest starting with the first in the Maeve Kerrigan series but think this works equally well as a stand alone novel.
As excellent as the others in the series
What other book might you compare The Last Girl to, and why?
The others in Jane Casey's series of novels featuring DC Maeve Kerrigan. All of which are fabulous.
What about Caroline Lennons performance did you like?
She's an excellent narrator. Great inflection and very good at differentiating voices of different characters.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Not that kind of book.
Any additional comments?
If you like beautifully written contempory crime, with really well drawn characters, you should love this, but I recommend reading/listening to the series in order.
Best of the series so far
I enjoy this series of books, good character progression, some amusing dialogue and good story lines, good narrator too!
excellent
wish I'd read the books in the correct order never mind I've enjoyed each one
Lightweight
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Plot line is woolly and author tweaks it as she goes along. Inconsistent.
Would you recommend The Last Girl to your friends? Why or why not?
Plot poor. There seemed little construction, it just seems flung together, so no.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Caroline Lennon?
I have listened to others in the series, found them to be better constructed. I think the narration was weak because of the prose.
Could you see The Last Girl being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
no
Any additional comments?
sadly disappointed
