आशुतोष कुमार पांडेय की उम्र आज 31 वर्ष है। जब वे 9 वर्ष के थे तब से उन्हें रेडियो पर ख़ासतौर से बीबीसी सुनने का शौक़ हुआ। यह शौक़ जल्द ही एक निष्क्रिय श्रोता से बदलकर सक्रिय आलोचक, समीक्षक और मीमांसक का हो गया। भारत सहित अनेक वैदेशिक रेडियो कार्यक्रमों को सुनते हुए आशुतोष ने उन्हें अपनी शिक्षा, सजगता और व्यक्तित्व निर्माण में समन्वित रूप से सहयोगी पाया। फिर वह दिन भी आया जब वे न सिर्फ अपने प्रिय रेडियो प्रस्तोताओं से सीधे संवाद में आ गए बल्कि कार्यक्रमों में फोन के माध्यम से हिस्सेदारी भी करने लगे। बिहार के बक्सर ज़िले के एक गाँव में रहते हुए एक रेडियो श्रोता के रूप में उन्होंने जो लोकप्रियता पाई उस यात्रा को हमने आशुतोष के साथ विस्तार से टटोला है। सुनिए इक्कीसवीं सदी में अपना प्रभाव लगभग खो चुके भारत के रेडियो कार्यक्रमों ने कैसे एक ग्रामीण युवा का जीवन प्रभावित किया।
