Another big week for energy, with promises of varying value coming from even the largest laggards in the oil sector as well as a huge statement of intent from Joe Biden as part of his election campaign.
While bringing you up to speed with the weeks issue, Rethink Energy also dips into the world of rail – offering Hyperloop and Hydrogen as two concepts for trains of the future – as well as India’s first foray into large-scale floating solar.
Welcome to the first episode of 'Heat Without Carbon' a series of SGN podcasts exploring the future of heat in a rapidly approaching net zero economy.
The UK and Scottish Governments have set some of the most ambitious targets in the world on climate change, with commitments to achieving 'net zero' by 2050 from the UK government and by 2045 from the Scottish Government.
Net Zero means any greenhouse gas emissions would have to be offset by by schemes to mitigate the damage, such as planting trees and using technology like carbon capture and storage.
I'm Colin Kelly and in this series of podcasts, I'm going to explore what this means for the way we heat our homes, power our heavy industries, and even decarbonise the most polluting vehicles on our roads, rail and water ways. And I'll be speaking to some of the key players involved in moving our homes towards a cleaner, greener future.
In this first episode we'll be looking at the potential for hydrogen gas to play a significant role on how we heat our homes, and how future customers might benefit.
We'll discuss what customers need to know, how they'll be affected, safety considerations as new fuels come into our homes and what the future might hold for a gas distribution network connected to more than 20 million UK homes, but largely hidden from view, under the ground.
And I'll be hearing about the research, development and testing work going on at selected sites around the country that's playing such an important role in getting us from where we are today, to where we need to be. Enjoy the programme and search 'SGN Future Of Gas' to find out more.
Jim Jordan discusses the role of hydrogen with Professor Joe Howe from the University of Chester. This is particularly relevant given that the European Commission has recently unveiled a €750bn economic recovery package, with a focus on "rolling out renewable energy projects, especially wind and solar, and kick-starting a clean hydrogen economy in Europe."
Join the Rethink Energy team as we discuss a huge injection of UK Export Finance into Mozambique - to boost LNG trading between the US and Europe. Meanwhile, we identify why Portugal is the dark horse in the race to lead Europe's green hydrogen economy, the birth of a potential superstar in the floating wind sector and what the outcome will be of China's decision for the future of wafer sizes in the solar sector.
In this episode, Joseph Murphy, Natural Gas World's News Editor, welcomes Jean-Arnold Vinois, Adviser on European Energy Policy at the Jacques Delors Institute and Honorary Director of the European Commission, and Tudor Constantinescu, Principal Adviser to the Director General for Energy in the European Commission, for a discussion about the recently launched EU's Hydrogen Strategy.
Recorded on July 24, 2020.
In this episode, Tom looks at the two technologies competing to power our electric cars: batteries and hydrogen. Plus, building the bionic banker. How will technology transform the future banking industry?
On this weeks episode the team are talking all things hydrogen with Jacob Krogsgaard, the CEO of Everfuel, a leading supplier of green hydrogen for mobility and industry in Europe. Since its establishment by Nel and a consortium of parties and investors, Everfuel has become a market leader in establishing green hydrogen solutions for mobility in Europe, and has recently expanded into areas such as power-to-gas as well. The team catch up with Jacob to discuss Everfuel's business model, the establishment of the H2Bus Consortium, Jacob’s views on how the market for green hydrogen is evolving in Europe and where he sees the greatest early potential for scaling.…..All this and more on the show!

Less than one percent of all hydrogen produced today comes from renewables. Is that about to change?
The vice president of Siemens Middle East just called green hydrogen the “new oil” in the coming decades. A lot of big industrial companies and oil majors are taking another serious look at hydrogen. Why?
In an era of extremely cheap renewables that are increasingly being curtailed, hydrogen production could finally be an attractive use. There are emerging regulatory pressures on existing hydrogen production.
This week, we talk with Ben Gallagher, an expert on emerging tech at Wood Mackenzie. He’s the author of a new piece of research on the market. Ben will help us understand what’s different about today’s hydrogen hype.
