LitRPG News

This week on Facebook Live, Mountain Dale Press talked to one of their authors, Xander Boyce, about Advent - Red Mage: book 1 and what may be in the pipeline with Advent book 2.

https://www.facebook.com/MountaindalePress/videos/266423280709955/

Someone talking about LitRPG in the wild! No, it is actually Tao Wong's narrator for Adventures on Brad talking on the DnD podcast. But for several minutes he mentions his work narrating LitRPG. And you can tell the other people have no idea what he's talking about, but it was still neat. It's the episode that came out 11/21/18, DnD and Improv Comedy, at about the 48 min mark.

Score: 7.8 out of 10

https://amzn.to/2IAKh6x

Dark Elf Chronicles Book Two: Survivors (10:06)

There are lots of new characters in both the IRL and game storyline, lots of adventures, and even a bit of sadness.

Score: 7.5 out of 10

https://amzn.to/2Pt8K3y

Beginnings (Peaks of Power Book 1) (13:17)

https://amzn.to/2CFf1T1

BASE Status: Online: An Unlikely Hero's LitRPG Journey (44:42)

As a cyber thriller, this isn’t bad. As LitRPG, it’s not good since the RPG game stuff doesn’t matter to the story.

LitRPG News

It’s that time of the year folks. The GameLit Society is running their annual charity drive and in only a few days has already made to their goal of sending $2000 to Shriner Hospitals for Kids. Please give if you can, and if you can’t, please share the post and spread the news of the charity drive. There will be a few gifts donated by LitRPG and GameLit authors including signed books, but we do this for the children. Think of the Children!

New Releases and Reviews:

Siphon (A Touch of Power Book 1) (05:47)

There are some world building flaw, but the main character is one that you want to root for.

Score: 7.2 out of 10

https://amzn.to/2xqkKZb

The Idle System: The New Journey (14:38)

The unique Idle System game mechanic will appeal to micromanaging gamers.

Score: 7.4 out 10

https://amzn.to/2Oeb79D

Changing World: The Beginning (19:41)

Translation issues may bother some, but the slice of life story was entertaining.

Score: 7.6 out of 10

https://amzn.to/2ILmi4D

RiftWorlds Online: Book 1 - Space Opera Insertion (23:47)

While the story is never boring and the action is well written, the issues with the premise and the predictability of the story reduced my enjoyment.

Score: 6 out of 10

https://amzn.to/2zW6sRJ

High School Dungeon Crawl: Level 1 (30:49)

Not particularly entertaining.

Score: 5 out of 10

https://amzn.to/2pUeGUJ

Rank Zero: A Sci-Fi LitRPG (Cyberlinks Book 1) (Cyberlinks Trilogy) (33:04)

Not bad cyberpunk, but not good LitRPG.

Score: 6 out of 10

https://amzn.to/2pQnU4B

The Realm Between: The Curse: A LitRPG Saga (Book 1) (39:01)

Novel blurb over hypes it. It’s neither epic, or filled with nightmarish monsters. It’s slice of life and the MC fights pixies and goblins.

Score: 6 out of 10

https://amzn.to/2CmTT3M

Viridian Gate Online: Side Quest: A litRPG Anthology (47:22)

While I didn’t love every story, I had a good time reading most.

LitRPG Podcast 137

Oct. 12th, 2018

Hello everyone, welcome to episode 137 of the LitRPG podcast. For the full show notes visit us at: https://litrpgpodcast.com/litrpg-podcast-137

I’m Ramon Mejia. I’m here to bring you the latest LitRPG news, reviews, and author interviews. I have 8 new LitRPG reviews just for you.

It seems like Amazon implemented a change in their search engine and it feels like it’s harder to find LitRPG. Several of the titles on the upcoming list or shown last week don’t show on a search for ‘LitRPG’, so you might have to adjust your searches. I found more of the missing ones using ‘LitRPG Books’ as a search term.

New Releases and Reviews:

Kingdom of the Dead (An NPC's Path Book #2) LitRPG Series (12:15)

The story is not perfect but there’s lots of good action, interesting RPG power developments, and some good twists to the story.

Score: 7.1 out of 10

https://amzn.to/2NMOPca

Grum: Suburban Sunderer (Savage Legends Book 2) (17:17)

Grum is without a doubt my favorite RPG Barbarian. Score: 7.5 out of 10

https://amzn.to/2zZPH8o

Deadwater: A LitRPG Adventure (The Wayfarers Book 2) (20:35)

I was disappointed that with the setup for the 1980’s real world and the multiverse weren’t better used. Lost interest fairly quickly.

Score: 6 out of 10

https://amzn.to/2QzAQXJ

First Level (Replay Book 1) (24:09)

Not a bad , if simple, story but I really disliked one of the main characters.

https://amzn.to/2IAX9to

Seasoned Adventurer (29:22)

I genuinely liked the Gourmand aspect I was really disappointed it wasn’t used more and most of the story just felt inconsistently built. The harem aspect also felt out of place and poorly done.

Score: 4 out of 10

https://amzn.to/2OwWJd0

Beastmaster: Symbiosis: A harem LitRPG science fantasy adventure (Beastmasters Book 1) (36:31)

There are some interesting and well developed aspects of the story and some decent to good combat, as LitRPG it just didn’t work for me

Score: 6 out of 10

https://amzn.to/2C7s8vH

Infinite Lives: (Infinite Lives Online Book 1) (44:29)

If the humor lands for you, you may like this one more than I did.

Score: 6 out of 10

https://amzn.to/2xLr8KH

NuLife: A LitRPG Adventure (50:16)

Not LitRPG.

Score: 4 out of 10

https://amzn.to/2pNuQiw
