spirituality is not a subject for the faint of heart, and Sarah Johnson wants to have an open, vulnerable conversation about religion, spirituality, and morality. living in small town mississippi, sarah has not had the best experience with religion. through self-exploration, she has begun to educate herself on different practices, and due to our difference of religion, we thought it would be beneficial to share our conversation. perhaps, the world is a bit smaller than we thought.

toxic masculinity is destroying our boys, and it’s prohibiting them from developing into men.

since when did it become shameful to have emotion? since when did it become weak to even feel emotion? since when did our boys who do express emotion become scolded for not being man enough? since when was this acceptable?

our idea of manhood is so desperately skewed, we can’t help but damage our children emotionally, mentally, even physically. i can’t help but say that we have no idea what a true man looks like. the light must be shed on the undeniable pain that has been so swept under the rug; boys don’t even know how toxic their mindset can be. so let’s stop telling him to be a man and let’s start telling him that he’s human.

perceiving beauty through fast fashion, media, and the male gaze creates unlimited insecurities that are pushed on to the masses. everyone- and i mean everyone- has felt the pressure from themselves or other outside influences to meet an unattainable standard of beauty. it seems change is the only way to accomplish acceptance, and i’m not just talking about your clothes.

we experience so much throughout our lives. it can be hard to digest everything that we go through, and sometimes we want to hold on a little too tightly to the good and the bad. one lesson we will never fully master is letting go. i, for one, allow my control freak nature to hinder my growth mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. i want to get personal about the things that i cling to and ways that i let it all go.
