In celebration of National Read a Book Day, which happened on September 6th, the Little Sleep Ladies decided not to read just one book or two books, but to have a READ-A-THON !!! So the ladies tried reading as many books as they could in one day.
This episode is also the first that the ladies filmed physically together since Aruba!
The episode is set up a little differently, composed of voice memos throughout their reading journey and then a recap at the end.
Ooooh yes! The Little Sleep Ladies are looking to one of their favorites for this episode. We focused all on Harry Styles!!! Liza Read In Watermelon Sugar by Richard Brautigan which lightly inspired Harry's song "Watermelon Sugar." While Riss read a reported Harry favorite, Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami.
The Little Sleep ladies had a little tiny discussion on misogyny based on these reads, and if you're a Harry stan...Besties, you don't want to miss this one!
On August 30th, 1797, badass Feminist, Mary Wollstonecraft gave birth to Mary Shelley, who would change literature forever. Mary Shelley went on to write Frankenstein thus sealing her fate as the Grandmother of Horror.
We want to wish Mary a very happy birthday beyond the grave. Please. celebrate with us in this episode!
Aliza read Love and Fury: A Novel of Mary Wollstonecraft by Samantha Silva.
Riss read Mary Shelley: Gothic Tales by Mary Shelley
This episode is so close to our hearts! The Little Sleep Ladies not only discuss Row v Wade and Reproductive Rights, but they do it with their dear Feminist Friend, Lindsay Lopp.
We would like to remind everyone listening that we believe in the right to abortion. We believe reproductive rights are human rights. We will continue to support the efforts of feminist women everywhere.
Riss and Liza are so excited to be bringing you our fortieth episode! This week we are judging books by their covers! Marissa read a fantasy book called The Splendid City by Karen Heuler while Liza read an experimental book called When I Sing, Mountains Dance by Irene Solà.
The Ladies were visited by an unwelcomed Guest in the beginning of the episode and we left it in for giggles!
HAPPY SEASON THREE !!! The Little Sleep Ladies have a fun season planned out for you all and we're starting off with a BANG!
Riss and Liza are doing itchy, sweltering Summer horror books! Riss read the very popular My Heart Is a Chainsaw by our beloved Stephen Graham Jones and Liza read the beautiful Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery by super talented, Brom.
We are so excited to kick off a third season of reading and talking books with all our lovely Sleepy Readers.
THIS IS OUR LAST EPISODE OF OUR BONUS SEASON, THE ARUBA TAPES!
Riss read the trending book, Wilder Girls by Rory Power while Liza read New Animal by Ella Baxter! We both decided that we need to read each others books DESPERATELY! So thats how you know theres some good content in there.
As this is our last episode, we gave a tiny bit of homework at the end! We will be taking a tiny break from the Podcast as usual, but we will see you in a few weeks for the start of SEASON THREE!
The Little Sleep Ladies are almost done with The Aruba Tapes episodes! This one centers around water with Aliza reading Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid and Riss reading The Water Cure by Sophie Mackintosh. The Ladies had such a wonderful time sitting with these books and letting the water of the book rush over us!
The Little Sleep Ladies had a wonderful surprise while they were in Aruba, and we had books find us! What we mean by this is that we both unexpectedly came across two books that spoke to us and felt right. Riss came across The Girl in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware while Aliza found The Van Apfel Girls Are Gone by Felicity McLean.
For another fun addition to the Aruba Tapes, the Little Sleep Ladies read "Beach Trash" which we consider high-drama Mass Market Books that you would take to the beach!
We recorded this episode outside in the fresh beautiful Aruban air, so please forgive the background noises you may here. It could be wind, or our live studio audience which included Lizards!
For this episode, Aliza read The Reef by Nora Roberts, and Marissa read The Stepsisters by Susan Mallery.
