March 21st is world poetry day! The Little Sleep Ladies read some beautiful poetry books! Marissa reads Night Sky with Exit Wounds by the very talented Ocean Vuong and Liza read Brute by Emily Skaja, such a wonderful book of poems. The Ladies want to encourage everyone to pick up a contemporary book of poems! If you can't buy a book, show poets some love on instagram or twitter! Track them down and attend local events in your area!
Inserted below is a link to the piece Ocean Vuong wrote for the New Yorker

Hey Sleepy Readers! On this episode we are celebrating the birth of one of our favorite Sci-Fi Authors. Mr. Douglas Adams was born on March 11, so remember him on that day by doing something kind for an animal. Why? Well along with being a Sci-Fi King, Douglas was also a huge Animal Activist! In this episode Liza read "Left Chance to See" by Adams, where he tried to bring awareness to endangered animals. Riss took a little break from reading this week, but instead she discusses the importance of Zoos! Support your local zoos.

And be sure to look up endangered animals in your area!

March starts the wonderful Women's History Month! Since the Little Sleep Ladies read women more often than men, we are only using this episode as a celebration of the month. Liza saved a books life (just kidding! or am I?) by picking up "The Bitch" by Pilar Quintana. Marissa read "The Dark Dark" a collection of stories by our host's beloved professor Samantha Hunt! Make sure you read a book by a woman this month (or many books by many women this month!)
If you are interested in Samantha feel free to go to this link and read a marvelous short story by her, or you can listen to. her read it!

For our final week of Black History Month the Little Sleep Ladies read Horror! And it was good! Marissa read "The Devil in Silver" by Victor LaValle, and Liza read "Lakewood" by Megan Giddings.
Of course, the celebration of black authors and black creators should NOT stop here! We should be consuming black made content all year, and showing our support!!
Also please excuse the ending! Our zoom shut down on us, and so our outro was recorded at a later date by Future Marissa! The mic quality is also slightly different! Our apologies, Besties!
Hey all you ghouls, cats and witches! This episode of LSMR follows our Black History Month with "Magic" books by Black Authors! Aliza read "Boy, Snow, Bird" by the wonderful Helen Oyeyemi and Riss read "The Intuitionist" by Colson Whitehead. Although our hosts LOVE these amazing authors, and have enjoyed other works by them, the books reviewed this week weren't easy to get through! It just shows that reading is not always constant! So don't feel down on yourself if you're in a reading slump, Besties!
The hosts of the LSMR podcast are over the moon about releasing THEIR TWENTIETH EPISODE!! Thank you so much to all of our listeners!
This week we focused on Mystery books by Black Authors. Marissa read a crime book called The Jigsaw Man by Nadine Matheson and Liza read a thrilling book called My Sister, The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite. These books were so fun to read. We are loving these BHM books and encourage everyone to look into buying them!
The Little Sleep Ladies are celebrating Black History Month with books in our favorite genres by Black Authors ALL MONTH LONG!!! This week we had the general topic of Black History. Liza read "The Perishing" by Natashia Deón and Riss read a children's book called "The 1619 Project: Born on the Water" by Nikole Hannah-Jones and Renée Watson, and illustrated by Nikkolas Smith. For more information about The 1619 Project, please head over to the website below.

To ease us back into a new season of book talking, the LSMR Ladies catch you up on their most recent reads! Riss read White is for Witching by Helen Oyeyemi and Liza read Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw. Both books have witchy vibes, and beautiful covers that we think you should definitely take a look at! We also talked a lot about other books on this episode, as our conversations kept moving to the topic of Y/A.
We tried to give a spoiler warner deeper into the episode when we get into a discussion about The Hunger Games but also here is another more general warning!!
The Little Sleep Ladies are starting off the new year (and the new season) by summing up their Top Ten Reads of 2021! This episode is a treat that will feature some of your favorites from last season! The question you should all be asking is..... Which book will be Number One????
We are so happy the Winter Hiatus is over, and we can start talking books again!
Be sure to follow us on Twitter, Instagram and/or Tiktok to keep up with us on all things Sleepy Readers related! And keep an eye out for a photo of our rated books of 2021 stacked!
Join Liza and Riss for the FINAL episode of the first season where the girls have gifted each other one of the other's favorite books (please tell me that wording makes sense). Liza read one of Marissa's favorite books, "Horns" by Joe Hill. Riss read one of Liza's favorite books, "Red Clocks" by Leni Zumas. This episode was SO fun to film and it was so wonderful to see each other within these books!
Now the girls are going on a tiny break from the pod! :( Be sure to keep up with us on social media (@LSMRPodcast) to see what we are up during this break, and maybe you can let us know books you want us to read next season?
Until next season, Sleepy Readers!
