Today I have the privilege of bringing you the conversation I had with Angela Salem. Angela just retired after her 12th year of professional soccer. In her final season with the Portland Thorns FC, she led her team to first place in the regular season and earned a spot among the league’s Most Valuable Player candidates. She had established herself as the best defensive midfielder of the season. She is the type of player that made the NWSL possible.
Angela is the kind of player I love. She is humble. She doesn’t care about personal awards, although her play on the field deserves a ton. She battled through failing leagues, injuries, and more to play the game she loves. She earned the love and respect from all the greats including Carli Lloyd and Lindsey Horan. Her career in the sport is not over. She has some exciting things on the horizon.
