The “Matthew 25 Hand Up for Housing Walk A Thon” is this Sunday, October 3rd. It benefits safe and stable housing for the vulnerable in our community. 100% of the funds raised by the Matthew 25 Hand Up for Housing Walk A Thon will go to assist families and youth, in and around Omaha, find stable and secure housing. Specifically, the funds will be equally divided between Heartland Family Service, Open Door Mission- Lydia House and Youth Emergency Services (Y.E.S.)

The Annual Art & Literary Festival Joslyn Castle features a unique and intimate theatrical adaptation of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s iconic Gothic masterpiece, Frankenstein. The two-week festival, beginning September 30th and running through October 9th, will take a new and exciting direction with in-person performances being staged outdoors on the Castle grounds with two seatings each evening at 7 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. You can even try your hand at writing a ghost story, best ones win prizes and bragging rights!

Ridership on the new Midtown to Market Bikeway in Omaha is higher than expected. Officials say the bikeway sees about 140 riders on weekdays and 200 riders on weekends. The Midtown to Market Bikeway is the first protected lane in the city of Omaha.

On September 23rd, a 6-week series of conversations designed to educate participants about racism in Nebraska begins, and the goal is to inspire people to take actions to build a more equitable society. These Zoom sessions will start at 7:00 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. on 6 Thursdays.

Dr. Siobhan Wescott had been named the inaugural holder of the Dr. Susan and Susette LaFlesche Professorship in Public Health. An Alaskan Athabascan, Dr. Wescott grew up just outside Fairbanks in a tiny 400 square foot cabin with an outhouse. She has always been a staunch advocate for Alaskan Natives and American Indians, especially when it comes to issues of health equity and educating the next generation. She has cultivated a nationally recognized voice, especially through her work with the American Medical Association.
