In honor of World Mental Health Day, I wanted to take a few minutes to discuss my perspective on Mental Health and shed light on some alternative paths to healing without using pharmaceuticals. Having suffered from my mental health symptoms, I offer my advice from experience. Whether or not you have experienced mental health problems or not this is still worth listening to help yourself or someone you may know in your life. I threw this episode together rather quickly, so don’t fact-check me lol. Many of the topics and practices will be expanded upon in more detail in later episodes by myself or guests on the show.
I believe that depression, anxiety, and other mental health-related symptoms are due to an imbalance in our mind, body, or spirit. If we are willing to put forth the effort, our mental health struggles can be an illuminated path to awakening from within.
Most important things to keep top of mind:
This is not a disorder. You are not broken. You will heal.
Understand that these are temporary “feelings”; they will not last forever.
The darkness reveals the light within
Talk about it with someone you can trust (It’s okay to be vulnerable- especially for men)
Write your thoughts down (Journal)
Try yoga & mindfulness meditation at home or in a studio.
Consume adaptogenic herbs & mushrooms
