05:20 – The funny thing is, when they came in the house that day, my wife and I, we still joke about it to this day... You have to find a way to look at it, that's exactly what the first couple of years of this was like. It was hard, but you kind of you relax with it. We joked around because neither one of us knew what was going on. I looked at it, I thought, was she cheating on me with somebody? Is she in the mafia, something that I don't know about? Is she living a double life? All these weird thoughts. Then she's looking at me going, are you looking at weird stuff on the internet? I mean, just all these thoughts, because you have no idea nowadays, and then, why are these people in our house?!

10:45 – We had to end up selling our home, we had to end up dealing with all kinds of different issues that weren't documented. So I'm doing the best I can based on what I believe they wanted. Well, there were other family members who disagreed. So that became a big point of of problem.

20:00 - The number one thing is, anybody involved, and I mean anybody, step relatives, uncles, aunts, brothers cousins, friends down the street, they should all be involved in all the decisions for clear communication. Either in writing, in a group meeting, etc, so that there's witnesses that can say, yeah, I saw that all 10 of us agreed with what were doing. I mean, other than what you said, the wills and signed agreements and all that stuff. The other thing too, is just don't pay yourself to take care of your your relatives. I mean, there's a lot of different philosophies on that.

31:50 – We had to have two different attorneys. You can't have one attorney represent you. So you have to have two separate attorneys. It just became this odyssey, I felt like every day I was getting up and having an out of body experience because it was so not my life of crime. Up to this point, I only had some speeding tickets. I had an open container when I was like 19 years old in college. That was it. So here, I was caught in this thing. Thank God she, I mean, she's just an angel. To this day, she's it, she has incredible friends. She's an incredible person. Thank God because if she wasn't, she would have left me in a heartbeat.

40:50 – I think it was smart move. I don't have a legal background. I'm not here to say whether you are guilty or innocent. I love the fact that you're honest. You say, we definitely screwed up, and we definitely didn't do some things that were within the legal process, that's why we got nailed. Then you stepped up and you owned it because you want to protect your family and not get drug through a massive trial of hell.

50:00 – Assisted living doesn't stay easy, even when we put them both in assisted living. It just made a lot of our challenges even worse, because you still have to get them to doctors, you still have to make sure their fed, they have clothes. I mean, people think well, we just put them away. You got to pay for it. You got to be involved in all of it or find somebody or pay somebody to be involved in it.

    54:20 – Final Words

Our Final Words of the Show:

If I narrowed it down to three key points... Number one would be gratitude. It's important to have that, no matter what's going on in your life, find the good things to focus on the good things. If you focus on the negative and the bad, that's what grows. I mean, we hear that all the time on every book and self-development podcast. It's probably cliche, but here's the reality. It probably saved my life, just finding that gratitude.

Second thing and this is what I teach my kids all the time, is you can come back from anything. Truly anything, if I could survive this, and again, there's people who've been through way worse than me. I mean, God forbid you lose a child or there's just things that are way worse than what I went through. But the reality is if you can come back from whatever it is, if you just keep working, you can come back. But that's what I tell my kids all the time.

I think the third thing is, it may be around the word, or the feeling of authenticity and love. Being yourself. I think I was pretending to be somebody. I mean, there were bits and pieces of me that were me. But I was losing. One of my friends said, you know, back in that day, you were so buttoned up. I was like, what do you mean buttoned up? He said, it was like, we didn't get to see the real you. We didn't get to talk to the real you. Even now, it's hard for me. I mean, it's hard for me to say I'm a convicted felon, that it's like I just said, but it's the reality and it's me, and it's okay. I'm okay, because I'm still a good person. I'm still living a great life.

  • Vegan Turned Carnivore
Yes, A Vegan Can Heal By Turning To A Carnivore Way Of Life:

Claire is a Carnivore Coach, specialized on Mental health, eating disorders, and living the Lion Diet thanks to her own personal story of transformation to save her life for her son and her own well being.

    Quote: Meat Heals My Friends!

Listen in to learn her story of healing, recovery, and transformation from Anorexia Nervosa, and so much more!

    Her Struggle With Anorexia Nervosa:

Growing up in France, Claire ate the typical French diet rich in saturated fat and protein. A dancer, she was naturally thin like her fellow ballerinas-in-training. Constant comparisons as to who was the slimmest, however, led Claire to develop body-image issues, and as she entered her teenage years, she started to restrict her eating.

Her parents were in the dark about her struggles, and after experiencing a traumatic incident at the age of 16, her eating disorder got worse and developed into full-blown Anorexia Nervosa.

    Finding The Carnivore Diet:

As the years passed by, Claire became a prisoner of her tyrannical eating disorder. At 5′ 7″, her weight would go on to drop to a life-threatening 69 pounds. She became so frail she had to use a wheelchair, and at one point, she even lost the fat from her optical nerves and went blind for months.

Her hair fell out, her teeth fell out, and her heart rate was always hovering below 40. In 2017, she got the flu and died on the table for several minutes. At 33 years old, Claire was desperate beyond measure and started looking for alternative ways to try and conquer Anorexia.

When she came across the carnivore diet, she was intrigued by its simplicity. She started with a low-fat option but still didn’t feel very well. Then, in July of 2021, Claire was unable to go swimming with her family when on vacation because she was freezing cold—even though it was the middle of the summertime.

In her sadness, she became resolved to give the carnivore diet a real try and booked a coaching session with one of the Carnivore.Diet coaches online. They encouraged Claire to think about eating meat and fat like taking medicine, and if she committed to it fully, her body would heal—fast.

“I was so scared, but from one day to another, I only ate fatty meat…it was a life changer.” Claire started off with easy-to-digest ground beef. She also drank raw egg yolks and snacked on butter—sometimes up to several sticks a day!

“I was eating fat all the time, and my body handled it fantastically…It was like body happiness…I couldn’t stop! Since the moment I started eating this way, I was not able to restrict myself anymore. I have to eat when I’m hungry—my body is so happy with it!

Finding Happiness and Learning Weight Optimization:

Within three months, Claire was able to gain 20 pounds and come off all of her anti-depression medication—in close collaboration with her doctor, of course! Now, 39 years old and with a full head of hair, Claire is up to 110 pounds. Instead of being wheelchair-bound and blind, she is able to jump on the trampoline with her son and work all day in her job as an engineer. All of her blood markers are excellent as well, leaving her doctors amazed.

Any lingering concerns about her weight have vanished, and Claire is miraculously unbothered by the scale. “The carnivore diet is not about weight loss; it’s about weight optimization. So, if it brings me to gain twenty more pounds or thirty more pounds—it’s possible—I don’t have any trouble with it.

I want to feel satiated all the time, and I want to be able to think clearly, and I don’t want to restrict… I’m eating amazing food, I’m doing some movement, I’m sleeping well, so the weight will be what it has to be.

    Today’s Top 3 Takeaways:
    1. Eating disorders triggering negative mental health.
    2. Healing yourself for your child.
    3. Increasing the scale for healthy weight for life.

     Timestamped Show Notes:

05:00 – I was vegan I from 2012 2017, fiver years of my life. You have to find what is true and what is not true. On the internet you can find all the information you want. You can listen to what you want to hear. If you want to hear that veganism is perfect, you will hear that veganism is perfect.

09:00 – When I started switching to veganism, I didn't want to become a vegan at the beginning. I did it for my son because I was breastfeeding him and he was having health issues because he was allergic to dairy and dairy protein was going into my breast milk. So the doctor asked me to stop just the dairy on my own for him, not to get any dairy, and to get better. So it was the starting point. I just eliminated dairy from my diet first. Then I was looking for more people having the same issues and I start finding people saying similar things.

19:20 - I'm eating lots of meat and my son is really happy with this. H is also eating a lot of meat as well and he knows that meat is good for him. But it's not eating only meat. It is. I'm really open minded. As long as he has his meat and his fat first, then he can have whatever he wants.

30:30 –I wasn't drinking alcohol, I stopped in 2010 because my uncle died, he was 30 years drunk. So I was not drinking any alcohol, I was not eating any fat, but I had liver failure, and you have liver failure because you're not giving nutrients to your body. I had a few heart failure issues because when you don't get enough potassium into your body, and you cannot retain the potassium, so it gets low and even if I had potassium through my veins every single week, it was not enough to sustain because I was not giving the nutrients. I was just damaging everything. I had a lot of kidney stones. This is due to all these crappy leafy greens I was eating them all of the time. So I was passing kidney stones all the time.

39:30 – It was very important for me and she helped me a lot to get out of the medication because it's the same, you kind of go out of psychiatrist make medication just listening to person in the inefficiency of saying you go carnivore and then you stop being depressed and anxious. Okay, no, it took me three months, but we did it gradually, and she was helping me with this. No way she would give me back to big pharma, especially if she knows that it's working and all is fine. But yeah, for all of this very heavy medication, you need medical advice. I'm an engineer, I'm not a doctor.

    50:50 – Final Words

Our Final Words of the Show:

I left all this of this veganism crap in the past to make me a better person and to be able to educate people. Yeah, I was wrong. I was brainwashed. I'm not anymore, I think on my own. If I can do this, you can too, just because I eat the meat and the fat. So go ahead and go to your butcher and eat meat and fat.

07:00 – We love being distinct. We don't do what most coaching companies or training companies do most of, that shits boring and useless, as well. Wat they do is usually provide formulas that gesture at results. We don't mess around. We drive with three very distinct conversations. One is we do care about results. That's what people are paying for, something new that's happening that wasn't happening before. So we get really clear on that and how do we do that? Well, leadership, if we could talk about what leadership is for a long time, but at least we know, leadership is getting results through other people.

23:00 - In our work, we call it vital competencies. This is where life is like the connection between two humans, that's where life is, period. I mean, we can have a transaction, but we're not gonna have a future together, that is, unless we like each other. We get some vested interest, and we get shared interest together. Actually, you know what, I'd really trust Scott, I get this guy, even if we want different things, and I get you. We might be on the other side of the table, but it's like, Man, I get this dude. He's a real deal. Now that's vital. That's like truth telling and that's really listening. That's the presence and all of the things that you naturally show up as

30:00 – When I first got into coaching, I would hope nobody would ask, how how'd you get into this? Because I wasn't an Accenture guy, I wasn't an IBM guy, I wasn't a Google guy. There's a natural thing here, I've been spending years doing a bunch of crazy weird shit, from being an ICU nurse at the bedside, when trying to keep a kid alive, to running a multi-million dollar Foundation, to working mostly to doing leadership training with murderers to taking teams to go overseas.

40:00 – It's honoring our convictions as much as our emotions most, the imposter syndrome was really my feelings about what's happening matter more to me than my capacity. I speak on lots of big stages these days, I sit in rooms, wave, and have conversations that have lots of dollar signs in the backend. Am I scared? Yes, I am. I am intimidated. I am insecure, I know all of that shits happening. When I'm on the airplane flying across the country being paid good money to do X, all of my shit is coming up. I'm not surprised that it comes up for me. It's just a part of it.

    46:55 – Final Words

Our Final Words of the Show:

I love that we talked about legacy a ton. I think about this, especially as a dad, that's mostly where I think about being a legacy. We got four kids between me and my wife and I think about this a bunch. So my legacy is always go be all in and be all here. That's what I think about, my commitment level, I'll just compete with anybody with my commitment level. You know, we'll see results wise, but you can't outwork me. You can't out present me, you can't outwork me, let's just go, I'm gonna be all in. I love competition. I love finding the edge for myself. I love all of that. At the same moment, I want to be all here, I'll be present for it. So to being present, especially with my young kids, talking about the deep complexities of life, I do XYZ.

Now things seem to come easier for me now, blah, blah, blah. But it's not always been like that. Nor will it always be like that. So I like really sharing the struggle in life. That is as a part of it, and there's joy in that, like, if you struggle well, like aiming at some meaning, struggle will come up actually faster than if you're not aiming at anything. If I aim at something, difficulties will come faster, that's the hard. All of my insecurities, they're not going away. They're gonna be here at some level, they're gonna be here, so I want to talk about those. Talk of them, even with my nine year old. When we're out on the golf course I just say, hey, how am I doing as a dad? My dad never asked me that question. My dad's a lovely guy. I don't think you ever know how am I doing as a dad and I don't want that answer. You know, a part of me is like, oh, shit, what might he say?

05:00 – I wasn't diagnosed until I was actually in my 50s. So the background on this is looking back now in working with experts, psychiatrists, I now know that I was living on the bipolar spectrum from teenage years. So in, I always had a, what they call a bipolar brain. But at first, it was a very low level of mania.

10:00 – Mania is really the opposite of burnout. Because with mania, you're going continuously up, up, up until you blow up and come crashing down to earth. So the manic side of the cycle is up up more and more energy, less sleep, more grandiosity, etc. Then I would say, what goes up must come down. So when you reach a peak level, and your brain is over producing these key chemicals, when it's time to go the other way, the brain stops producing as much, and it gets fewer and fewer of these chemicals. Then that's when you hit the burnout, you fall into depression, and your brain essentially begins to shut down. I mean, no energy, withdrawn, confused, you can't make a decision, can't get out of bed, can't go to work. That's where I think the burnout comes in. It's just the natural byproduct of the mania.

20:00 - Scott, you've actually given me a good idea, and something to think about. Maybe we have a little more specificity in who is my buddy, in what area I've given down here. You know, all my friends that, because I've written about 25 articles in close to 100 talks, everybody knows, Martin has a bipolar disorder. What I've done is I've given them these little cards that showed the symptoms of mania and depression. I've talked to them and said, okay, look, read this, do you understand it, if you see me displaying any of these symptoms, talk to me, talk to my wife, so we can address it. So that is ours, I've got my wife, who has a really good understanding. But I think having a more precise targeting system that you just alluded to, is really the way to go. So I'm gonna have to get busy and put that into effect.

31:00 – There's a thing called seasonal seasonal affective disorder. I've actually had it my whole life. When the days gets short in they fall into the dark, like a long winter, your mood sinks, and you go into kind of a natural depression. Then when the Spring time comes in, the sun's high and the days are longer and brighter, your depression goes away, and you really get a low level of mania.

41:00 – There are some other side benefits of lithium. There's been some research done where lithium can help prevent dementia, and it can help prevent other chronic diseases that otherwise would come at a higher, more rapid pace. So there's some side benefits as well that rise above the toxic concerns.

50:00 – The thing about mania, it's really important to know that for much of my manic state, it actually helped me. It made me better, it boosted and enhanced my performance, made me smarter, funnier, more energetic, and it wasn't until you get to a certain threshold and you go too high, that it becomes destructive.

    55:50 – Final Words

Our Final Words of the Show:

Bipolar disorder and other mental conditions, they can often be deadly and destructive. They could destroy marriages, families, careers, finances, lead to addictions, homelessness, incarceration, death, and even suicide. That's the bad news. I mean, really, really devastating stuff. That's the bad news.

The good news is that if you get diagnosed and get treated, and stick with your treatment plan, and you manage these chronic conditions, you can live a happy, healthy, purposeful life, which is a great story! It's a great news story, and you just have to manage it the way people manage diabetes, or cancer or heart disease.

Now, why don't people go get help? That's the $100 question, when they're sick, why don't they get help? It's because of the stigma. That drug leads people to shame and embarrassment. The stigma is just based on ignorance. People still have a notion that when it comes to mental health problems, or due to lack of character, or lack of willpower. Not true, it's due to physiological conditions inside the wiring of the brain. So once you realize that, there should be no stigma, just like there's no stigma against diabetes or cancer. So that's kind of my message, arm yourself with knowledge. A great place to start is the Bipolar General book. Get the knowledge because that knowledge could save your life or the life of somebody that you love.

10:30 – So it's interesting, I mean, there's a lot of problems in the world today. But there is no better time to be alive, right?! Think about it, we can create in the way that's easiest for us. For me, it's the same way, over podcasts, I can talk. But you know, writing a blog, that's a homework assignment, but we can talk and then we can repurpose it either with technology or the people helping us and make blogs out of it, make videos out of it, etc. You know, I always say if I talk for 45 minutes, my team can find like two minutes of genius in there.

21:15 - I have gone through a few microphones and always want to sound better. If you talk you want the good quality, right? In podcasting, we must take pride in our audio quality.

29:45 - There's a great marketing phrase out there, you're just one funnel away. I also think it's the biggest lie out there, because what works for small transactions does not work for high ticket relationship sales? Everybody keeps saying, oh, you're just one funnel away. Tell me Scott, the best things in your life, right, does your wife come through a funnel? Ha!

34:00 – Well, I had a client that came to me and I said, well, why do you want to do podcast interview marketing? I loved his answer. He was a high level consultant. He said, because he thinks most of digital marketing today is the equivalent of advertising above urinals.

40:00 – Even if it's all automated and a funnel, it doesn't matter because you're wasting their time. It's like, why don't you get five leads and five customers? That's one of the things I love about podcasting. Somebody's listening to you. You're either their guy or you're not. If you are great, then they reach out to you and ask how can we work together. They self select, but if you're not a good fit for him, then fine, but let's figure that out early on. Because at the end of the day, we don't need more leads, we need more need more sales.

52:00 – For example, we just mentioned Sopranos. There was a seasonality to it. Each season can change in the theme, so you're not locked in. So this season, we can talk about health this season, or we talked about business. So as different things come up, you can focus on it.

    01:15:00 – Final Words

Our Final Words of the Show:

The thing that's on my heart right now is we all know something that is ordinary to us and is amazing to other people, right? Through our lives, through our experiences, through our mistakes, we've learned things. We are blessed to be a blessing. So I believe that we've got a responsibility to share that with other people. What they do with it is up to them. But you know, I used to be able to say, well, if I got up to the pearly gates, and and they say, you were taught all these things, well, how come you didn't teach somebody else that I could say, well, you don't understand. I live in southwest Michigan. There's nobody around me to teach it to, and that's not true. Now with technologies, the podcast hosts, as a podcast guest, writing blogs, writing books, whatever it is, what's ordinary is amazing to others. We're blessed to be a blessing. In your own way, I would encourage you to share what you have learned with other people, because it will help them and it will help remind you of what you've learned along the way.

    Timestamped Show Notes:

05:15 – As chiropractors, we don't call it dislocation, we call it subluxation.

09:50 – It can hurt when you're walking and when you're laying down, so it's when any bone is in the wrong place. It can be very painful. It can limit your your activities and functioning. The level of pain can cause other problems to occur in your body. There's inflammation going on and pain syndromes can really drain your energy and make your life miserable.

20:00 – Seed oils are super cheap to manufacture. So that actually is one of the reasons why they started to push it onto the population. This is my definition of food. This is how we explain what food actually is because most people don't even think about this. "Food is anything that grows on the ground, grows on a tree, or has a mother and is minimally processed."

26:00 – We teach people to understand the role that nutrition plays in their body. Most people don't even know why they need to eat, they really don't, if you ask the average person, they'll say, for energy.

31:15 – Real milk is loaded with probiotics. When you pasteurize milk, you're killing all the good stuff in it, you're denaturing the protein. So I have a great video about raw milk on my YouTube channel, I interviewed the woman who started the organization called RealMilk.com, which is dedicated to helping people educating them about raw milk and raw dairy and where you can find it anywhere in the world.

39:45 – Almost all of us are nutritionally deficient. So it's a little difficult to correct nutritional deficiencies with food alone. Even if you're eating the best quality food a lot of people are starting off with deficiencies and you can't eat enough of what you need to correct the deficiencies and that's where supplements do come in handy. However, I use food based supplements so they're actually still food. So even though there are pills or capsules, I tell my patients, this is food in the shape of a tablet. This will help correct the deficiencies that you have. The goal is that you won't need it forever.

51:30 – We've been so inundated with chemicals that we kind have lost touch with our ability to know what our body needs. A lot of times when people have cravings, they're actually craving nutrients that they're deficient in. But they're misinterpreting the craving and an eating sugar instead or eating salt. She was actually telling me on the video that she's been training people to be able to do that, that self selection and we see changes with my patients when we get the processed food out of their body. It takes about 120 days to completely grow enough clean new cells to make a difference.

    01:05:20 – Final Words

Our Final Words of the Show:

This is what I tell people about making choices about their health and their future. Decide if you want to live as long as you can, and be as healthy as possible. Live a long healthy life. So you can enjoy your grandchildren, whatever it is that you want to enjoy in life, or would you prefer to just do whatever the heck you want, just eat whatever you want, trash your body and go out with a bang. That's the decision that you need to make along with the other ones. But if you want to live as long as possible and be healthy and happy and functional, then you need to eat a clean, nutrient dense diet and take care of yourself.

  • Kettlebells and Preparing for Battle with Chad Price
Today We Discuss Helping Yourself, Preparing for Battle, Kettlebells, and more:

Chad is a seasoned serial entrepreneur with an impressive track record spanning over a decade. He founded Kettlebell Kings from scratch and orchestrated a remarkable 3 year multi-million dollar acquisition back in November of 2021. Today, it stands tall as a thriving international company, making waves in the esteemed Inc. 5000.

In 2019, Chad pivoted into another passion of his, natural lifestyle products. His new company, Life Grows Green, is uprooting negative stereotypes about hemp and creating new products by only using the elements found in nature. With his background as a student athlete, Chad's passion for sports permeates every aspect of his work.

Chad’s approach to business is the same as his approach to sports. Athletic competition is good, but outside the sports arena, competition takes new heights. His latest project is an upcoming book titled “Preparing for Battle”.

Chad discusses a wide range of topics, from developing a winning mindset to creating a solid business plan, building a strong team, and navigating the challenges of scaling a modern-day business. “Preparing for Battle” is targeted at aspiring entrepreneurs and minority-owned business leaders who are looking for actionable advice and insights that they can apply in their own lives and businesses.

    Timestamped Show Notes:

05:30 – So after I kind of, quote unquote, hung my cleats up, I was looking for a more kind of functional fitness workout routine for myself, and going to gyms and you know, 24 Hour Fitness, Lifetime Fitness, these things felt more like social scenes, and they felt like a place to workout at the time. So I really got into home fitness and just trying to find my own routine that I can rely on, I don't always have the convenience of going to a location. Kettlebells were just one of those things I explored during that journey.

10:45 – I was telling someone earlier, I think one of the opportunities sports gives you is you get to play all of those battles out, kind of in a simulated way. Whether that's practice or lifting or the actual games and championships, you kind of get different levels of intensity of battles, and you get to win and lose them. I think that hardens you and prepares you for leading a team through obstacles, especially the unseen ones, you start into entrepreneurship, you never know exactly what every problem is going to be. Out of the problems that come along, the will, perseverance, and grit to get through comes about. If you have the right mindset, you can make it through.

15:45 - I don't like to hurt people's feelings. But there are always going to be winners and losers, there's no such thing as not being winners and losers. Yes, we can live in a better society than we did 100 years ago, and 100 years before that. We should be striving to do that. But even in those societies, there are still going to be people who do better, and people who do worse. Striving to do good is something that I think everyone should do.

22:45 - Preparing for Battle, my book, is launching on Amazon. Even this experience, we talked about preparing for battle, this is my first book, this is my debut book. There were things that I didn't even know I needed to prepare for myself to do this. But you know, I had a small team that I put together, I worked with my editor quite a bit to make sure I was trying to create something that people actually could digest. So you know, it's not just me saying it the way I want to say it, but I'm trying to say everything in a way that's easily digestible, and something that builds a lot of confidence and inspiration and people who are thinking about starting their own business, I think it's more about getting in the right mindset for the challenges ahead than thinking that you can study or cram all the information or memorize all the information necessary to be an entrepreneur.

31:00 – In football, you had to position yourself and prepare yourself for that type of impact, potentially, or avoid that type of impact. That was part of the strategy. I think that's the closest that we actually get to combat sports or physical sports like that. I think it's the closest we actually get to the kind of real world consequences for some of our decisions.

40:00 – I think that's the issue, like you said, not every company cares, and the companies that don't care, unfortunately, they get the profits early on. They also get the best stories that come out about them. I'm sure there are people who are saying, hey, this company was too good to be true. Or you could have done your research and seeing prior to the story coming out that they necessarily weren't abiding by the book. Trying to put a high quality product as the foundation of what they do. For me, it's hard for me not to do that with any brand that I associate myself with.

    52:25 – Final Words

Our Final Words of the Show:

When I graduated from college, and even when I first started the business, I didn't realize how many people don't necessarily have the same intensity about business, but the same same intensity about kind of creating or leaving a legacy. I know there are people out there like that now, and I think a lot of times you have doubt, because maybe everyone in your circle or everyone around you is not necessarily as intense about success or healthy lifestyle. I tell people to lean into that and to lead people towards the direction in what you know, is right. I think all business owners, especially any type of person that's in a position of leadership needs to be kind of held more accountable to the overall well being of what they're trying to achieve. Am I a cut enough corners today to get to the bottom line? I think it has to be a more conscious approach to life, especially now that we're in this digital age.

    Timestamped Show Notes:

05:00 – I finally ended up taking a leave of absence and then ended up leaving, I was an Illinois State Trooper and I ended up leaving because of fitness businesses that I had not the one I have now a different fitness business, I started, but it really took off. But, you know, throughout that I also even when I was a police officer, I was super interested in fitness. I was bodybuilding and powerlifting even when I was a police officer, as a police officer, I got as heavy as like 235 pounds as a power lifter, and I'd get down to 175 pounds for a bodybuilding competition.

13:15 – I think that if we're coming in a couple different ways. From a department perspective, you know, obviously, like you said, unscripted, my thoughts go to leadership. Leadership is incredibly important in companies, in police departments, in anything.

22:25 - Even though fitness has been in my kind of personal DNA, when I was a state trooper, I started a little supplement company. I thought, if I can just make enough money to pay for my own protein powder, I'll be happy. So you know, we call it a side hustle now, but here was the thing, there was there was no internet then. So I placed little classified ads in the back of bodybuilding magazines like Flex Magazine, Ironman, and it was a toll free number and I couldn't even answer the phone because I was a police officer working. So when I got the call they would have to leave a message.

33:00 – Why are we letting ourselves, and we're capable of so much, go down that emotionally depressed path? How do we catch them sooner? How do we get them in-line sooner to help themselves? - It's a great question. I think that part of the reason, I'll give this quote, "For every complex problem, there's an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong." Since it is a complex question, I'll try not to just turn it into one thing, you know, do it reductionist. I'll say this, I think that part of the answer is, if you have worked with people at all in the addiction space, it's not always rational, because in my head when I was 32, I was rational but like what is going on here?

40:00 – There's so much to focus on, and it's more than just take personal responsibility and just buck up man. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and do this, except that we are in this incredibly obesogenic environment. By obesogenic, your listeners probably know what it means. But to me, it just means that all things external and internal that drive the overconsumption of ultra-processed food. The simple fact that ultra-processed food is addictive, which is also obesogenic.

51:00 – One of the elements of emotional fitness is self-awareness. When you have more self-awareness, you are more conscious. What happens is, you go catastrophic, or you don't go catastrophic. For example, if I had an argument with my spouse or my significant other, I'd say well, I guess we're gonna end up divorced, I'll be homeless, alone, living under a bridge penniless, nobody will ever love me ever again. Now I know, I'm exaggerating. But I think your listeners will all get that we all do that, to some extent, if something is really the thing that lights us up quick. What if something's become what we call a conditioned, automated response. Conditioned as in like Pavlov's dogs.

    01:07:00 – Final Words

Our Final Words of the Show:

Honestly, it's the reason I transitioned out of supplements. I sold a supplement company and I went all in on llcu. Because I started thinking about what were the what were the positive things that people were saying about me. And to me with regard to the supplements, hey, thanks for the great prices, the fast shipping, the protein that helped me get ready for the thing that whatever the thing was, and I went, I literally went, this was back in 9798, I went, I have got so much more in me than that. And on the back of my tombstone, I don't want thanks for the fast shipping. Thanks for the, you know, the low prices. Thanks for that. I said, I want to really have done everything I can to help people transform truly transform from the inside out and have their lives be bettered not just physically, but emotionally, mentally, spiritually, in ways that transcend not only their life, but that they can then share with and help the next generation and the next generation and the next so. And so that's why I'm so passionate about making sure people understand what they're facing what's going on. Because I want them to win, I really want them to win. And they can if they have the information and the support and the system. So I mean, that's not really a pretty simple, you know, answer, but it really is all about helping people to be their best selves and have that transcend. I've got grandkids now, Scott. So I see my kids with their kids. Yeah, we were just there this weekend, we were in Dallas visiting and seeing the grandkids. I can't tell you how important it is and how special it is for me to see, you know, the influence?

    00:30 - Introduction

03:30 - It was it was actually super fun. So the conferences were both in this old engine building factory that had been refurbished into like a venue for events. And so they have all of the old. Like the cranes in there and stuff. I mean, obviously, they're not moving it or using it. But yeah, you go in and they had a big screen down all the way at the end of the room. And they had speakers rooms upstairs. And anyway, it was it was very, very cool, then you a lot of the people that they had at the event, were some of the people that were kind of pushing the state of the art forward in JavaScript. And so and some of them I knew already, some of them we'd had on like JavaScript Jabber, which is our big podcast on JavaScript. And so yeah, so just meeting up with him in person, you know, getting to know him shaking hands. I recorded a handful of interviews.

10:00 - The difference is, and it's kind of the same thing that I did with Microsoft for five or six years, is if you go as a speaker or influencer, it's a different thing. If you're going as an attendee, sometimes even some of the conferences just going as a speaker, it's different than going as an influencer. If you're one of the people that they go out of their way to get to the conference, then a lot of times, they'll pull out all the stops.

19:30 - The other version of that is none of these technologies standstill. None of them do. So even if you're working in a place that is hey, we're going to stick on the version we're at, we're gonna use the technology we know. You find all kinds of opportunities learning the next thing in the technology you're already an expert in. Maybe you want to go with indie game development, which is one area that I want to branch into. It's super popular, and there's a ton of stuff going on, and it's getting easier. So if that's an area of interest for you, by all means, if you want to move into management, then you're talking about project management, people management and helping them do essentially what I'm doing just one on one.

22:20 - The video game standing in for real life for military applications, you know, where maybe you replicate a cockpit, or combat situations where you're carrying a weapon and things like that. With AR and VR opening it up, you don't even see the gun, you carry the prop, that is a game controller. But going beyond that, like office professionals these days, a lot of the stuff that they're doing, the interactive stuff that they're learning, that's all being done with game development technology. They're using Unity, which is an engine for building video games. So from there, it's not just watch a video and then click on the right answers in the quiz anymore, which is what I did in a past corporate life. But now it's literally you're working through a work function, or you're documenting and outlining some process that you have to do at work

    31:20 - Final Words Shown Below…

Our Final Words of the Show:

The way that I got into the conference thing in the first place, was I had a listener to one of the shows, who wanted to have a Ruby track at a conference that he was helping organize. So he set it all up, they got us to come out, I actually lined up for a bunch of my friends to come out as speakers. We went up to Vancouver and while I was there, there was another podcast called .NET.

So .NET is Microsoft's technology stack. They were doing a series on agile development. It's a methodology, it's a set of principles for running a team. They asked me to join the panel, because I had a different take on things because I came from a different background. So I joined the panel got to know the guys that ran that show. It turned out that they were the ones that wound up one of those guys who ended up organizing the podcast setup at the Microsoft events. So sometimes it works to get to know the people directly involved. But sometimes it helps just to get to know people and empower people who eventually introduce you to those people.

Pela recently created Lomi, a Smart Waste Appliance to help solve the food waste and plastic problem and is now creating a waste innovation category with a goal of eliminating 10 billions pounds of waste on their mission to create a waste free future.

    00:30 - Introduction

09:25 - Another reason that we liked about phones at high margins, so you could pay more for material, small product, put in the mail, ship it directly to consumers and you don't have to worry about the big gatekeepers and getting into retail with low margins. So that's how early on we overcame that, that margin difference. In the grand scheme of things, no, it's not that much more.

20:35 - In 2018, when the three of us partners came together, we really clarified our vision and our mission. Our mission, our crazy goal, was to create a waste free future by creating everyday products in an everyday way. So not just the product waste, but like packaging waste, and are we wasting energy or time? How can we use our product as a force of good and how can we support nonprofits? How can we build the most sustainable, environmentally friendly product or company in the world? So that was our basis point.

32:30 - We're not trying to solve the electrical grid generation issue. I believe, one day, we're gonna get there. It's going to be quicker, one day energy will be renewable. We've run all of the numbers, depending on if you're in Texas, or California, your carbon footprint is more or less. As long as you're not sending your end product to the landfill, it's a win. Because you're keeping it out of the landfill. It's either going in your backyard or in your farm or other place. So you're ahead from a carbon footprint standpoint, and we also are Climate Neutral certified. So we measure our carbon footprint every year. We try as best we can do our carbon footprint, but the stuff that we can't lower anymore, we purchased offsets, carbon credits. So when Lomi arrives at your door, all the manufacturing, all the transportation, and your phone case, you're at zero.

40:30 - In regards to landfill methane collection, it's good, but it's not as efficient yet. It's a good step forward. They're trying, anytime you're trying, I give everyone credit, because it's not easy. We all need to try to make those little steps

    53:35 - Final Words Shown Below…

Our Final Words of the Show:

The first thing that came to mind is, are you, or are we being good ancestors? Are we leaving the planet better than we found it? You measure everything by that, like it could be as far as raising children or however you show up in the community, like brightening people's days. I think it sounds simple, but that is the most powerful thing and supporting companies who are also trying to do better. Hey, we're not perfect, but like companies, even big companies, if they're trying to make a little bit of a change, then at least try. I mean, we got to start somewhere, right? So yeah, that type of thinking,
