That’s what happened to one of David’s sons. He kept thinking about the “forbidden fruit” until he was utterly consumed by it. Then, once he decided to satisfy his desire, nothing was going to stop him. But once he got what he wanted, he wasn't satisfied, wouldn't take responsibility, and made someone else pay for his sin.

David broke three of the Ten Commandments in just this one setting. He coveted another man’s wife, committed adultery with her, and murdered the man to cover his sin. After being confronted with his sin and told he would suffer a four-fold consequence, David begged for mercy and forgiveness in Psalm 51. God did forgive Him and restored to him another son for the one he lost because of his infidelity.
