We are talking to Dr. Carol Efron, author of A Hidden Fate. Carol Efron is a psychiatrist and a writer. She earned her MD from Johns Hopkins and served on the faculty at Johns Hopkins and Stanford before building a thriving private practice (in Silicon Valley. Her research—much of it on genetic diseases—has been published in leading medical journals. Life experiences that fed into the themes of Efron’s debut novel include losing her groundbreaking physician mother to lupus when Carol was fourteen, witnessing fraught genetic testing dilemmas faced by patients and friends, and professional involvement with helping resolve conflict between couples. Efron has led a book club for fifteen years and studied the craft of fiction writing for a decade, including initiating a writers' critique group.
