Living Between Wednesdays

Rachelle and Dave are running down the Free Comic Book Day comics that will be available at better comic shops everywhere this Saturday! Also in this episode: thoughts on the 2017 Eisner Award nominations, the latest episode of Riverdale, and the debut of the podcast version of Rating the Super Hunks!

Rachelle and Dave are both getting a little tired of Twitter, and "comic book" Twitter in particular. A lot of this frustration is related to the relentless (and misinformed) outrage over Marvel's Secret Empire event, which started in earnest this past week.

Also in this episode: more Black Hammer love, the first trailer for The Last Jedi, announcements from C2E2, and maybe the very last This Week in Winter Soldier (but probably not).

So...a Marvel artist drew some racist messages into an X-Men comic that came out last week. Oh, 2017.

Anyway, he's been fired. We talk about that, and a bit about other incidents where artists decided to make a statement (or a dumb joke). Also in this episode: the latest issue of Captain America: Steve Rogers, the Thor Ragnarok trailer, the latest episode of Riverdale, and Dave is in love with Black Hammer.

Things were said this past week by Marvel executives that were maybe...misguided. Rachelle and Dave are here to talk about what they think the real reasons are for Marvel's decline in sales.

Also in this episode: Riverdale is back and that means it's time to dissect the latest episode, Bucky goes back to WWII in Thunderbolts #11, a new Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer, DC's Hanna-Barbera crossovers, and Aaron Sorkin thinks he can write a superhero movie (he just needs someone to explain to him what a superhero is).

Dave and Rachelle are interested in a lot of nerdy things, but not the new Power Rangers movie. This week they ponder why that is, and discuss the power of nostalgia.

Also in this episode: Warner Bros releases a ridiculous new Justice League movie trailer, Sebastian Stan posts a shirtless bathroom selfie, Marvel releases a VERY watermarked digital version of Secret Empire #0 to retailers, and Jeremy Renner releases an app!

This week Rachelle and Dave do the obvious thing: they watch a 2000 National Film Board documentary about Todd McFarlane.

Also in this episode: farewell to the legendary Bernie Wrightson, Rachelle is excited about the addition of her old flame, Michael Rosenbaum, to the cast of Guardians 2, and Dave has some stern words for DC about their so-called "deluxe" editions.

Rachelle and Dave are having a KONGversation this week about KONG: SKULL ISLAND and about King Kong in comics.

Also in this episode: new images from THOR: RAGNAROK, the latest episode of RIVERDALE, CAPTAIN AMERICA: STEVE ROGERS #13, a new WONDER WOMAN trailer, and a Chris Hemsworth workout video!

Rachelle and Dave are joined by Hillary Titley this week to talk about the latest superhero blockbuster movie, LOGAN. Also discussed in this episode: news from Emerald City Comic Con, the first issue of Fantagraphics' new line of superhero comics, the latest episode of Riverdale, and everyone needs to chill out about Magneto maybe being Hydra or whatever.

After Rachelle and Dave endured three X-Men movies and two Wolverine movies, someone dared write a list of fifteen ways the X-Men movies are better than the MCU movies. On this week's episode, that list is challenged.

Also this week: Riverdale epsiode five, a Nightwing movie, a crazy twist for Bucky in the latest issue of Thunderbolts, and lots of thoughts on this week's comics and comic news!

Dave and Rachelle's weekly look at the Wolverine films of Hugh Jackman, the series that SHOULD have been called 'Logan's Run' this whole time, comes to a close this week with 2013's THE WOLVERINE. It's maybe the best movie with Wolverine in it? But that isn't saying much.

Also discussed in this episode: all the news from ComicsPRO, episode four of RIVERDALE, a bunch of Captain America-related comics, more Batman movie woes, and if Mel Gibson directs the next Suicide Squad movie, Rachelle is DONE with Warner Bros and DC.
