This weekend we continued our series through the Psalms as we looked at Psalms 19. Psalms 19 contains powerful themes that portray God as a great creator and communicator. He has fashioned the heavens to proclaim his glory and he has given us the Word to reveal himself more completely. As he reveals himself, the writer turns his attention to himself in light of God's revelation. He finds he needs forgiveness and righteousness in light of God's presence. This week we continued our series through the Psalms by looking at Psalms 42. Psalms 42 is a Psalm of lament. It's a poem expressing grief, confusion and hope in God. One of the largest sections of the Psalms are songs of lament and sadness. God knows this is part of life and he gives us some vocabulary to help process it. Sometimes life doesn’t go as planned. Sometimes you don’t get the trophy. Sometimes you don’t get the grades. Sometimes you don’t get the job. Sometimes the relationship breaks apart. Sometimes you experience loss. Sometimes tears become too common. Sometimes grief is too familiar. Sometimes your heart breaks. Sometimes God feels distant. Each of these Psalms points us toward the hope only God can give us. This weekend we celebrated a special day and honored the beautiful women of Living Hope, as we concluded our Fully Alive series. We welcomed Kim Waldie as she examined the lives of 4 unlikely mothers who made history despite difficult beginnings. Their stories remind us that one of the greatest assets to the FULL LIFE is living with a redemptive hope. This is not just a wishful hope, but a living, trustworthy hope in the person, power, and presence of Jesus to transform and redeem any life wholly surrendered to Him! This week we launched into message #3 of our Fully Alive series as Kim Waldie shared with us about navigating the challenges of relationships when there is conflict or hurt. God has given us His Son, Jesus so that we can live a FULLY ALIVE life. We've learned that His love is the only love that lasts forever! While others may disappoint, Jesus is faithful. His sacrifice has delivered us from the guilt of our past and sins. This foundation is critical to our freedom. Out of this freedom and grace, Jesus then enables us (by his power) to forgive others and navigate the hurts of relationships with grace to heal us. We don't have to stay imprisoned to the toxic emotions (rage, resentment, bitterness, hatred) that come with unforgiveness. This weekend we celebrated the hinge point of history. All of human history has either pointed to the resurrection of Christ or points back to it. It is the most important question of history. The answer to that question leads to the most important personal question: "What will you do with Jesus?" The work of Jesus enables us to become fully alive. Because he lives, I can live also. Many in our world are looking for things that will give them life. Their hearts propel them from the inside giving motivation and direction. But what if what their hearts desired was actually killing them. Only in Christ can we become fully alive. This weekend Today we finish our series, Lessons from the Launch. We will look at the foundations for a thriving church in a toxic culture. The New Testament church continued to minister to people even with great opposition. From Pentecost forward, they devoted themselves to Biblical teaching, fellowship, and prayer. They lived radically generous and shared their faith as a normal course of life. God created the church to prevail against the gates of hell.
