An investigation revealed that California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara has been using a campaign committee to fund lavish meals and drinks. Lara reportedly spent nearly $30,000 at upscale restaurants and bars, including a $700 dinner at San Laurel in Los Angeles with Farmers Insurance Group's CEO. These expenses were charged to a campaign committee, despite Lara not formally announcing a run for lieutenant governor.
