The Holy Spirit is involved in the writings of the scriptures, involved in the creation, involved in the work of redemption, and specifically involved in our Lord’s life. He is involved in the work of regeneration; He is our teacher. Therefore, it is tremendously important that we understand the doctrine of the Holy Spirit.

Regeneration is the divine act of the cleansing of the elect and the communicating of the spiritual life through the Word and the Spirit. Regeneration is what takes place when you believe in Jesus Christ; you are regenerated, you are born-again, and you are given new life. You were sought out by the Holy Spirit, you were brought to Jesus Christ, you were led to trust and put your faith in Him, you believed in Him, and you were given new life, making you a new creature. Only when we look at ourselves, are we are able to come to know God fully and completely. Without the knowledge of God, there is no knowledge of ourselves. The doctrine of total depravity does not teach us that man’s human nature is totally corrupted. Rather, it teaches us that the entire human nature is corrupt. When speaking about divine standards, we can say that we are talking about something that is perfection and that consequently, everything man does falls short of God. The doctrine of total depravity is the doctrine of the whole human nature, not the total corruption of human nature.
