In this edition of the Living with loss podcast, I'm joined by my good mate and medical Student  Scott Leigh. 
Scott lost his brother Oli to suicide, and an initial coping mechanism was to get lost in his books and work hard to avoid the emotions of Grief. Scott explains how his grief journey follows the path of the 5 stages of Grief, at times there has been anger other times denial. We also look at Scott's mental health journey, the difficulties he has faced, and we share stories over the weird world of panic attacks. 

Scott and his Mum Michelle have founded the   Oli Leigh Trust which is an organisation that fundaraises to give grants to small charities that focus on suicide prevention and well being training. In this week's episode, I joined up with my friend and slightly terrible poker player Louis Salem. Louis and I spoke about the podcast on a drunken night out once, and from that moment I knew it would be a great episode.

Louis lost his dad when he was 12 years old. He takes us back to the moment he found out, the conversation he heard. And how the passing didn't feel real. 

Louis had to navigate his school years without Dad at his side and explains how "playing  Sunday league football" without dad cheering on was some of the hardest of moments. 

Despite the inevitable grief, Louis has developed a sense of  'resilience" and it's the trauma that he faced that drives him to succeed.

Living with loss is all about breaking down those barriers and having a conversation that we sometimes choose to run away from. But ultimately loss doesn't always need to be a point of sadness, it can be a time to remember and a time to share, and I'm grateful that I can share this platform with so many amazing people.

In this episode of the Living with loss podcast I connected with Rhiannon Amery to discuss the passing of her father.

Rhiannon lost her father to suicide and ever she has discovered a lot about the confusion of loss.

 The word suicide carries a lot of weight and Rhiannon has found people tend to avoid the conversation at all costs. But as Rhiannon explains when you lose someone "talking about it is so much more healthy. " When she talks about the passing of her father, she isn't looking for advice or guidance, she just wants someone to listen.  

Rhiannon shares how it's important to not just "assume the story" but instead "breath into the  "uncomfortableness" and be an ear to listen.

Danny has stage 4 cancer:

He joined me for an episode following a recent visit to the chemotherapy ward. 

Danny a lifelong United fan describes how he is in “Fergie time” and is lucky to still be here. 

Despite living with Cancer, he dedicates a lot of his life to spreading awareness and helping others through his various schemes at team DBB. During their time of operation Team DBB haved  raised £90,000 for various charities and the local community. 

Danny is an incredible man and has been on one hell of a journey. His compassion for others is second to none and it’s his empathy that makes Danny the kindest amongst us.

Today I'm joined by spoken word artist Tom Foolery (Tomos Roberts). Tom is the genius behind the viral piece " The Great realisation" which was a post-pandemic bedtime story that captured the hearts of millions. 
Tom and I dive into his poetry journey, discussing the downside of success, and how he owes a lot of his newfound audience to English teachers. 
This is a great listen to anyone who loves writing and the creative arts. As always mental health themes are discussed throughout.

Today I joined up with Joey Kolirin to discuss the passing of his father. 
Joey shared the hard authentic truths about living with a family member who has a terminal illness. We touched on the weird culture around grief, and how those messages of sincerity dry up as life moves on. 
It was interesting to hear from the perspective of someone who has lost a father and is now a father of his own, and how the trauma of his childhood  has shaped Joey's decisions and the person he is today.

Tom Davies is the host of the proper mental podcast- he is an active member of the mental health space, and his conversations on adversity are leaving a positive stamp on the world.
In reference to our conversation, Tom and I dove headfirst into the emotions of man, and why conversations around vulnerability are healing. 
We also looked at the self-help reading scene, and how you can't implement everything that you read into your life- This was particularly helpful, as I am one for trying to change my life with every single bit of information I read,  and that is an impossible feat for anyone.  
Podcasts around mental health may not bring in the largest of audiences, but as Tom puts it  ' helping that one person" makes all the difference.

In today's episode, I joined up with Jake moss.
Jake and I have shared the football pitch a few times together over the years, but today's turf is a little different.
Over the years my kitchen table has been host to many taboo-breaking conversations, and this is up there with one of my favourites.

Jake shared his mental health journey, he opened up about his experiences with OCD and gave an insight into the toxic "life coach" internet genre. 
It was an incredibly thought-provoking and rewarding conversation, and I can't wait for you to hear it.

Welcome back to the Living with loss podcast. 
I have been a little distant in recent months due to University commitments, but we are back with another thought-provoking episode.   

I joined up with Sam Winsbury to discuss his relationship with grief following the passing of his father to an alcohol overdose. 
Sam and I got in touch via Linkedin, the power of social media connection is amazing.
In this wonderful episode- Sam Shared his loss philosophy and how he came to grips with grief in his own way.  We looked at the male hesitancy with vulnerability, and how we need to work towards starting those seemingly difficult conversations.
