Title:                      The 24 Hours That Changed Everything: “Midnight Decisions”

Theme:                  Decisions made in the middle of the night are rarely good decisions. The night           that Jesus was arrested several people made bad decisions; Judas, the disciples, The Sanhedrin, the High Priest, even Peter made a terrible decision to deny     Jesus. But despite all those bad decisions, Jesus made the decision to continue         towards the cross and his death.

Theme:                   Before he faces the most difficult and important experience of his life, Jesus           prays, he prays an agonizing prayer because he knows his time is short. His one           request of his disciples is, “stay awake” with me. The question for us as           contemporary disciples might be, “Are we awake or have we too fallen                asleep?”

Theme:                  The most important 24 hours in history started in an upper room with Jesus saying things like, “This is my body”, and "this is my blood”. This sermon will tell that story and ask the question, “What exactly did Jesus mean when he said, “Do this in remembrance of me?”

Title:                      “Enemies of the Cross”

Theme:                  The cross is our salvation; through the cross of Jesus we have grace and           forgiveness. In this text Paul refers to an unknown element within the church as           “enemies of the cross”. As we prepare ourselves for Lent we pray that we are           people of the cross and not enemies of the cross.

 

February 7              (Transfiguration Sunday)

Text:                     Matthew 17:1-9

Title:                     “Fear of Jesus”

Theme:                  The transfiguration was that bright, shining and scary moment when the disciples saw Jesus for who he truly was. The primary emotion this invoked was fear. Encounters with the Living God are deeply moving, but they can also be frightening and fearful because they are also life transforming.
