Lobbing Scorchers

Lobbing Scorchers, Ari Liljenwall and Noah Riffe try to make sense of a Seattle Sounders team riding a seven game losing streak and looking overmatched in almost every phase. The rumors of signing a young striker have Ari and Noah asking the question: does any of it actually matter until the No. 6 situation is fixed?

The crew round out the show by assessing if the Seattle Sounders have enough urgency when it comes to making roster fixes. As we watch Cascadia rivals Vancouver Whitecaps reportedly targeting Dániel Gazdag and the Portland Timbers signing David Da Costa, are the Seattle Sounders being left in the dust?

Six straight losses have forced us to reevaluate a lot of our preseason and early-season takes. It’s only fair to look back and ask where our assumptions missed the mark. This isn't about apologizing for old takes, it’s about learning what this stretch has taught us about the roster and what we might’ve missed.

The Seattle Sounders’ nightmare run continued with a 1-0 loss to Philadelphia, marking a fifth straight defeat in MLS play as the club continues to reel since returning from the FIFA World Cup break. As we navigate our way through these trying times, it's time for an edition of “Cope or Hope” where we discuss every potential path back to contention - from the returns of Cristian Roldan, Yéimar and Pedro de la Vega to whether Seattle’s struggling No. 9 committee can still get the job done.  Then, we preview a daunting trip to Providence Park, just weeks after Portland handed Seattle a humiliating 5-1 defeat. Can the Sounders stop the spiral, or will the Timbers deliver another devastating blow?

The Seattle Sounders are coming off arguably the worst performance in club history, and for an occasion this unprecedented, we’re devoting the entire show to processing the fallout. After entering the World Cup break at 7-3-3, Seattle returned to a 5-1 annihilation by the Portland Timbers in front of more than 35,000 fans at Lumen Field.  On this episode we'll break down every angle of the historic collapse. Was it an inexplicable outlier or an x-ray of deeper problems? How much responsibility belongs to Brian Schmetzer and Craig Waibel, and what does the result say about Seattle’s roster construction, ownership spending and veteran leadership?  We’ll also examine Jordan Morris’ complicated DP situation, the decision to send Snyder Brunell and Paul Rothrock to face the media, and where the Sounders go from here.
