The Dallas Cowboys may finally have an IDENTITY under Brian Schottenheimer—and rookie linebacker Jayshawn Barham could embody exactly what this new-look team wants to become. Physical. Aggressive. Disciplined. And determined to make opponents earn everything.
On this episode of Locked On Cowboys Hit Podcast, host James Duncan breaks down Jayshawn Barham’s breakout preseason performance and why Brian Schottenheimer’s offensive philosophy could unlock a HUGE 2026 season for Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.
After working his way back from a groin injury, Barham made his presence felt with five tackles and a tackle for loss. But the most interesting development may have been the responsibility Dallas placed on the young linebacker, including giving him an opportunity to wear the green dot and communicate the defense.
That's not something coaches give to a player they don't trust.
Barham brings physicality, versatility and an attitude that fits what the Cowboys are trying to build defensively. If he continues producing, could the rookie begin taking meaningful snaps away from more established players when the regular season arrives?
Then there’s Brian Schottenheimer’s Cowboys offense.
Dallas is developing a clear philosophy: RUN to earn the opportunity to PASS.
Establish the running game. Force defenses to bring another defender toward the line of scrimmage. Create favorable matchups outside. Then let Dak Prescott attack through play-action with CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and an increasingly deep collection of Cowboys weapons.
That's where this offense could become dangerous.
If Dallas can consistently run the football, how does a defense handle Lamb and Pickens when Dak gets favorable one-on-one matchups? Add Jake Ferguson, KaVontae Turpin, Ryan Flournoy and emerging preseason playmakers like Camden Brown and Jonathan Mingo, and Schottenheimer could have multiple answers for whatever defenses throw at him.
The Cowboys don't need to choose between becoming a dominant running team or an explosive passing team. The goal is for one to CREATE the other.
Could Brian Schottenheimer's offensive philosophy unlock a massive season for Dak Prescott? Is Jayshawn Barham ready for a legitimate role on the Cowboys defense? And are we finally seeing the identity of the 2026 Dallas Cowboys take shape?
Cowboys Nation, what excites you MORE: Jayshawn Barham’s emergence or Brian Schottenheimer’s new-look offense?

The Dallas Cowboys defense might be FOR REAL. After two impressive preseason performances, young playmakers like Shavon Revel Jr., DaRon Bland, Caleb Downs and Jaishawn Barham are giving Cowboys Nation reasons to believe Dallas could field a dramatically improved defense in 2026. But there is still one major question Jerry Jones may need to answer: does this team have enough depth at cornerback?
On this episode of Locked On Cowboys Hit Podcast, host James Duncan breaks down the transformation happening on the Dallas Cowboys defense and why the secondary could simultaneously be one of the team's biggest strengths AND biggest concerns.
Shavon Revel Jr. continues to emerge as one of the most exciting young defenders on the Cowboys roster, adding a preseason interception against the Arizona Cardinals to an impressive summer. With DaRon Bland and Caleb Downs giving Dallas additional playmaking ability in the secondary, Christian Parker has young defensive backs capable of creating turnovers and playing multiple roles.
But what happens when injuries hit?
The Cowboys may have exciting starters, but veteran cornerback depth remains a concern. Should Jerry Jones make ONE MORE move and add another proven corner before the regular season? Or has Dallas seen enough from its young secondary to trust the players already on the roster?
The talent extends well beyond the defensive backs.
Quinnen Williams gives Dallas a disruptive force in the middle of the defensive line, while Rashan Gary, Von Miller, Malachi Lawrence and the Cowboys pass rush give Christian Parker multiple ways to attack opposing quarterbacks. Add the versatility of young defenders like Jaishawn Barham, and Dallas suddenly has options at all three levels of the defense.
And the early results are difficult to ignore.
The Cowboys have surrendered just 20 total points through two preseason games while allowing only one touchdown. It's only preseason—but for a Dallas defense looking to make a massive jump from last season, the speed, physicality, versatility and ability to create impact plays are encouraging.
Could this become the best Cowboys defense we've seen in years? Is Shavon Revel Jr. ready to become a major contributor? And should Jerry Jones add a veteran cornerback before Week 1, or trust the young talent already in Dallas?
Cowboys Nation, give me your answer: ONE MORE MOVE at cornerback, or are you trusting this Cowboys defense as currently constructed?

The Dallas Cowboys have a ROSTER PROBLEM—and it might actually be a good one. Jonathan Mingo and Camden Brown are making increasingly strong cases to survive final roster cuts, while Michael Trigg’s toe injury has created a completely different dilemma at tight end.
On this episode of Locked On Cowboys Hit Podcast, host James Duncan breaks down one of the toughest decisions facing the Cowboys as Dallas approaches its final 53-man roster.
Jonathan Mingo made his case against the Arizona Cardinals with a dynamic performance that included 62 receiving yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Camden Brown has continued stacking impressive preseason performances after emerging as one of the biggest surprises of Cowboys training camp.
Now Dallas has to find room for everybody.
CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens headline the Cowboys wide receiver room, while Ryan Flournoy and KaVontae Turpin also have established roles. But if Mingo and Brown continue producing, can Dallas really afford to cut either one?
That's where the Cowboys roster math gets complicated.
Keeping six wide receivers takes a valuable roster spot away from another position. Cutting one could mean watching a promising young playmaker get claimed by another NFL team. And if Dallas tries to trade someone before final cuts, is a late-round NFL Draft pick really worth sacrificing valuable offensive depth?
Then there’s Michael Trigg.
Trigg emerged as one of the most exciting undrafted players in Cowboys camp, but a toe injury has halted his momentum at the worst possible time. With Jake Ferguson leading the tight end room and Brevyn Spann-Ford and Luke Schoonmaker also competing for roles, Dallas has another difficult roster decision to make.
Could the Cowboys use injured reserve as part of their plan for Trigg? And how much could an injury derail an undrafted rookie who appeared to be forcing his way into the conversation?
That's the brutal reality of NFL roster cuts. Established stars can survive missed practices and preseason games. Roster-bubble players don't always have that luxury.
Cowboys Nation, you make the call: If Dallas can only keep ONE between Jonathan Mingo and Camden Brown, who are you taking? Or have BOTH played well enough to force the Cowboys to keep six wide receivers?

Joe Milton is taking CONTROL of the Dallas Cowboys QB2 battle, but quarterback isn't the only position where the Cowboys depth chart could be changing. After Milton’s impressive performance against the Arizona Cardinals, the competition between Malik Davis and Jaydon Blue for RB2 is also becoming one of the most intriguing roster battles in Dallas.
On this episode of Locked On Cowboys Hit Podcast, host James Duncan breaks down Joe Milton’s emergence in the Cowboys backup quarterback competition and asks whether he has finally created real separation from Sam Howell.
Milton delivered against Arizona, throwing for 179 yards while accounting for three total touchdowns and avoiding turnovers. The physical tools have never been the question with Joe Milton. The arm strength, size and athleticism have always been there. But now, Milton is beginning to combine those traits with the poise, consistency and decision-making Dallas needs from the quarterback sitting behind Dak Prescott.
Has Joe Milton officially taken the lead over Sam Howell for Cowboys QB2?
Then there’s another BATTLE happening in the Dallas backfield.
Malik Davis continues making his case to become the Cowboys’ RB2 behind Javonte Williams. Davis has provided reliability when given opportunities and found the end zone against Arizona on a touchdown reception from Joe Milton.
But don't forget about Jaydon Blue.
Blue brings explosiveness, athleticism and big-play potential that could give the Cowboys offense a completely different dimension. That leaves Dallas with an interesting decision: trust the reliability and experience of Malik Davis, or bet on the upside of Jaydon Blue?
And does Dallas even need to choose just one?
The Cowboys need quality depth behind Dak Prescott and Javonte Williams if they want to survive a 17-game NFL season. Joe Milton, Malik Davis and Jaydon Blue could all have important roles to play when the regular season begins.
Cowboys Nation, I want TWO answers: Is Joe Milton your QB2 over Sam Howell, and who should be RB2—MALIK DAVIS or JAYDON BLUE?

Joe Milton may have just TAKEN CONTROL of the Dallas Cowboys QB2 battle. The Cowboys rolled past the Arizona Cardinals 34-13 in preseason action, and Milton delivered one of his strongest arguments yet for why he—not Sam Howell—should be Dak Prescott’s backup when the 2026 NFL regular season begins.
On this postgame episode of Locked On Cowboys Hit Podcast, host James Duncan breaks down Joe Milton’s breakout performance, Sam Howell’s struggles and an impressive night from several young players on the Dallas Cowboys defense.
Milton finished with 179 passing yards, completed 69.2% of his passes and accounted for three total touchdowns as the Cowboys offense came alive. More importantly, Milton looked confident and in control while creating explosive plays and connecting with receivers including Camden Brown and Jonathan Mingo.
Is the Cowboys QB2 battle OVER?
Sam Howell entered the preseason bringing significantly more NFL starting experience, but turnovers and inconsistency against Arizona opened the door for Milton to make his move. Joe Milton has always possessed the size, mobility and massive arm. If the consistency and decision-making are starting to catch up with those physical tools, Dallas could have a legitimate weapon sitting behind Dak Prescott.
And Milton wasn't the Cowboys' only young player making a STATEMENT.
Shavon Revel Jr. came away with an interception as the young cornerback continues pushing for a major role in the Dallas secondary. Jaishawn Barham brought physicality at linebacker after returning from injury, giving Christian Parker another intriguing young defender to work into the rotation.
Through two preseason games, the Cowboys defense has surrendered just 20 total points. Dallas looks faster, deeper and more opportunistic—but questions remain about whether the cornerback room has enough depth entering the regular season.
Who raised his stock the MOST against Arizona? Has Joe Milton officially won QB2 over Sam Howell? Is Shavon Revel Jr. ready for a major role? And just how good can this young Cowboys defense become?
Cowboys Nation, I'm asking you directly: JOE MILTON or SAM HOWELL at QB2? Drop your answer in the comments.

The Dallas Cowboys QB2 battle is reaching a critical point as Joe Milton and Sam Howell prepare for another preseason opportunity against the Arizona Cardinals. With Dak Prescott locked in as QB1, Saturday could go a long way toward determining who Dallas trusts as its backup quarterback when the 2026 NFL regular season begins.
On this preseason episode of Locked On Cowboys Hit Podcast, host James Duncan breaks down the biggest Cowboys players and position battles to watch against the Arizona Cardinals, starting with Joe Milton vs. Sam Howell.
Both quarterbacks produced encouraging moments against the Seattle Seahawks, leaving the Cowboys QB2 competition wide open. Howell brings NFL starting experience, but Milton possesses the arm strength, size, mobility and upside that make him one of the most intriguing players on the Dallas roster.
Can Joe Milton take control of QB2 with a breakout performance? Will Sam Howell's experience ultimately win out? Saturday represents another major audition for both quarterbacks behind Dak Prescott.
But QB2 is only the beginning.
Jaishawn Barham is back from injury and looking to force his way into the Dallas Cowboys linebacker rotation after generating buzz during training camp. Camden Brown has gone from roster afterthought to legitimate contender after his preseason breakout, and another big performance could make it increasingly difficult for Dallas to leave him off the final 53-man roster.
The Cowboys also need answers at running back. Who emerges behind Javonte Williams? Dallas continues evaluating its offensive line depth, including Nate Thomas at tackle, while Michael Trigg remains one of the most fascinating names in the tight end competition.
For some Cowboys players, this is another preseason game. For others, it's an AUDITION for their NFL future.
Who takes control of the Cowboys QB2 battle: Joe Milton or Sam Howell? Can Camden Brown lock down a roster spot? Does Jaishawn Barham force his way into Christian Parker's defense? And which Cowboys roster-bubble player needs a breakout performance the most against Arizona?
Cowboys Nation, give me ONE player you're watching Saturday against the Cardinals.

CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens are the BEST wide receiver duo in the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys don't have a traditional WR1 and WR2—they have two legitimate No. 1 receivers sharing the same huddle with Dak Prescott.
On this episode of Locked On Cowboys Hit Podcast, host James Duncan makes the case for why CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens should enter the 2026 NFL season as the league's No. 1 wide receiver tandem—and which NFL teams can actually challenge them for the crown.
The numbers make Dallas’ argument difficult to ignore. George Pickens exploded for 1,429 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 2025, while CeeDee Lamb added 1,077 yards despite missing three games. Together, Lamb and Pickens produced more than 2,500 receiving yards.
And that's what makes defending the Dallas Cowboys offense so difficult.
Double CeeDee Lamb? George Pickens gets his one-on-one matchup.
Roll safety help toward Pickens? Lamb gets opportunities to attack the middle of the field.
Play both straight up? Dak Prescott gets to decide which elite receiver has the better matchup.
CeeDee is the problem. Pickens is the punishment for trying to solve it.
But if Dallas has the NFL's best WR duo, who can actually challenge them?
A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith give the Philadelphia Eagles an elite combination. Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams bring consistency and explosive ability to the Detroit Lions. Puka Nacua headlines another dangerous receiving corps with the Los Angeles Rams.
But the Cowboys have something incredibly difficult to replicate: two receivers who have already demonstrated legitimate WR1-level production.
There may be individual receivers you would take over George Pickens. There may even be receivers you would debate against CeeDee Lamb. But which NFL team has TWO receivers capable of completely taking over a football game the way Dallas does?
Cowboys Nation—NO BIAS. Give me the ONE NFL wide receiver duo you would take over CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. If you can't name one, I think we have our answer.

Which Dallas Cowboys players should YOU draft in Fantasy Football in 2026? CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens headline a Cowboys offense loaded with potential fantasy football stars, but Dak Prescott, Javonte Williams and Jake Ferguson could provide some of the best value on your draft board.
On this episode of Locked On Cowboys Hit Podcast, host James Duncan ranks the TOP 5 Dallas Cowboys fantasy football players to target in 2026 and starts with the biggest debate: CeeDee Lamb or George Pickens?
Lamb remains one of the safest elite wide receivers in fantasy football, but Pickens is coming off a monster 2025 season with 1,429 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. Lamb still topped 1,000 yards despite missing three games, and together the Cowboys' star receivers combined for 168 catches and more than 2,500 receiving yards.
So which Cowboys WR should you draft first?
CeeDee may provide the safer combination of targets and weekly consistency, while George Pickens possesses the explosive-play and touchdown upside that could turn him into a fantasy football league-winner at the right draft position.
But the best Cowboys fantasy VALUE might be somewhere else.
Dak Prescott could be an ideal quarterback target for fantasy managers who wait at the position. Javonte Williams has an opportunity to produce significant fantasy value out of the Dallas backfield, while Jake Ferguson could provide a productive tight end without requiring fantasy managers to spend an early pick on one of the position's biggest names.
James ranks his five Cowboys fantasy targets:
With Dak throwing to Lamb and Pickens and a Dallas Cowboys offense capable of producing plenty of yards, targets and touchdowns, Cowboys players could be extremely valuable when fantasy football drafts begin.
Cowboys Nation and fantasy managers: You can draft ONE Cowboy at his current price—CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Dak Prescott, Javonte Williams or Jake Ferguson. Who are you taking?

DAK PRESCOTT FOR NFL MVP?! It might sound like a hot take, but the Dallas Cowboys quarterback has a legitimate path to becoming one of the leading candidates for the NFL’s biggest individual award in 2026. On this episode of Locked On Cowboys Hit Podcast, host James Duncan breaks down exactly what Dak Prescott needs to do to enter—and potentially WIN—the NFL MVP conversation. Prescott has been here before, finishing second in MVP voting in 2023. Now, Dallas may have given its franchise quarterback one of the best collections of offensive weapons he’s ever had. CeeDee Lamb. George Pickens. Jake Ferguson. KaVontae Turpin. A potentially improved offensive line. If the Cowboys offense reaches its ceiling, Dak could have everything he needs to produce another monster statistical season. So what would an MVP season actually look like? Think 4,500+ passing yards. Somewhere around 35–40 touchdown passes. Protecting the football. Winning the NFC East. And, most importantly, leading the Dallas Cowboys to 12 or more wins and establishing them as legitimate NFC contenders. Dak Prescott doesn't necessarily need to become a different quarterback to win MVP. He needs Dallas to win enough games for the rest of the NFL to appreciate the quarterback he already is. James also breaks down HOW Dak gets there. It starts with maximizing CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, turning more red-zone opportunities into touchdowns and delivering in the marquee games that can define an MVP campaign. Because Dak’s MVP case won't just be built by dominating bad teams. If Prescott wants to change the national conversation, some of his biggest performances need to come under the lights against the NFL’s best teams. If Dak throws for 4,500 yards and 38 touchdowns, how many games do the Cowboys need to win for him to be YOUR NFL MVP? Cowboys Nation, drop your number in the comments. The Dallas Cowboys offensive depth chart could be CHANGING. Malik Davis is making a serious push for the Cowboys RB2 job, while an injury to training camp standout Michael Trigg could completely reshape Dallas’ tight end battle ahead of final roster cuts.
On this episode of Locked On Cowboys Hit Podcast, host James Duncan breaks down why Malik Davis may be gaining ground in the Dallas Cowboys running back competition. While much of Cowboys Nation entered training camp excited about Jaydon Blue’s explosive potential, Davis continues making the most of his opportunities.
Against the Seattle Seahawks, Davis led Dallas with 39 rushing yards on just seven carries. With Blue dealing with a shoulder issue and injuries also impacting the Cowboys’ running back depth, Davis has an opportunity to prove that reliability, decisiveness and experience can earn him a legitimate role in the Dallas offense.
Could Malik Davis actually STEAL RB2 from Jaydon Blue? Blue still brings exciting big-play ability, but preseason football isn't about hype or draft expectations—it’s about earning snaps.
Meanwhile, Michael Trigg’s push for the Cowboys 53-man roster has hit its first major obstacle.
The undrafted tight end has emerged as one of the biggest surprises of Dallas Cowboys training camp, but a toe injury has now cost Trigg valuable practice opportunities at the worst possible time. With Jake Ferguson established atop the depth chart and Brevyn Spann-Ford and Luke Schoonmaker competing for roles, every missed Trigg rep creates another opportunity for somebody else.
Michael Trigg may have the talent to make this Cowboys roster. The question is whether he can get healthy quickly enough to finish the job.
Could Dallas keep four tight ends? Does Trigg’s injury make Luke Schoonmaker safer? And who should be Cowboys RB2 right now: Malik Davis or Jaydon Blue?
Cowboys Nation, drop your RB2 pick in the comments: MALIK DAVIS or JAYDON BLUE?
