Locked On Padres - Daily Podcast On The San Diego Padres

San Diego Padres’ farm system depth sparks concern as the team eyes a competitive NL West run. Can Ethan Salas and rising prospects Kruz Schoolcraft and Kash Mayfield step up to fill critical roster gaps, or will recent blockbuster trades—like dealing Leo De Vries for Mason Miller—come back to haunt A.J. Preller’s long-term strategy?

Host Javier Reyes dissects Keith Law’s latest prospect rankings and weighs the true cost of a depleted minor league system for the Padres’ 2026 outlook and beyond. Key topics include asset management, bullpen volatility, the ongoing ripple effects of trading away top talent, some listener questions about how San Diego can navigate payroll constraints while staying competitive, and more! Go Padres.

San Diego Padres brace for NL West shakeup as Luis Arraez signs a one-year deal with the rival San Francisco Giants. Will the Padres regret letting the three-time batting champ walk as he bolsters a Giants lineup featuring Rafael Devers, Willy Adames, and Matt Chapman? Javier Reyes breaks down how Arraez’s fit in San Francisco could tip the wild card race and why the Padres may actually benefit by targeting more power at first base instead of doubling down on contact hitters.

Key discussion points include San Diego’s shifting contention window, the volatility of the Padres’ offense with stars like Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado, supermax contracts, the Padres’ ownership situation, the team’s approach to small ball versus power hitting, and more! Go Padres.

San Diego Padres rocked by FanGraphs’ #24 rotation ranking—are fans right to worry, or is this underrating a team on the edge of a comeback? Javier Reyes breaks down Padres rotation projections, from Michael King’s health to Nick Pivetta’s potential regression, and questions whether Randy Vasquez’s devil-magic in 2025 can hold up. With Joe Musgrove’s value, bullpen depth, and free agents like Chris Bassitt still in play, the pitching staff’s upside might surprise critics.

Javi also calls out MLB’s broader issues: Are teams like the Brewers and Nationals sabotaging their own futures with questionable trades? Will league-wide reluctance to spend derail parity more than the Dodgers ever could? All of that and more! Go Padres.
