The New England Patriots may have gotten one of the best values of the rookie tight end class in Eli Raridon. And we're already starting to see New England push the third-round pick toward a legitimate role. Raridon was available with the 95th overall selection despite other tight ends coming off the board earlier, including Philadelphia Eagles second-round pick Eli Stowers. Now Stowers has reportedly struggled throughout Eagles camp as both a receiver and blocker. Meanwhile, New England continues giving Raridon opportunities with Drake Maye. Raridon received five targets from Maye during Tuesday's practice and has consistently worked with the Patriots' starting quarterback. The Patriots clearly appear interested in finding ways to get him onto the field behind Hunter Henry. Plus, Thursday's preseason finale could finally give us some answers at RB3. Hassan Haskins, JaMycal Hasty, Jam Miller and Lan Larison remain in the conversation, but who doesn't play against Cleveland could be just as revealing as who does. If Haskins is held out while the others receive significant work, that might be our biggest indication yet that he's already secured RB3. One rookie might already be looking like a draft steal. And one Patriots roster battle could finally be decided. #NewEnglandPatriots #Patriots #EliRaridon #DrakeMaye #HunterHenry #NFLDraft #NFL Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The Christian Gonzalez contract situation with the New England Patriots isn't going away. And Gonzalez's latest comments certainly aren't going to quiet things down. When asked whether he believes the Patriots have held up their end of the bargain during negotiations, Gonzalez's response was simple: “Hmm. I don't know.” That's not exactly the answer New England should want to hear. Gonzalez has continued saying he knows his value, his teammates know his value and the Patriots know his value. At some point, New England needs to stop dancing around this and get a deal done with one of the NFL's best young corners. Plus, Drake Maye continues showing one of the most underrated parts of his game. Maye went 11-of-14 during the Patriots' final training camp practice after going 11-of-13 the previous day. During one stretch, Maye completed six consecutive passes — to six different receivers. That's what makes New England's offensive depth so interesting. AJ Brown. Romeo Doubs. Kyle Williams. Pop Douglas. Mack Hollins. Efton Chism. Then add Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson, Hunter Henry and Eli Raridon. Maye doesn't simply have options. He has shown the ability to actually use them. #NewEnglandPatriots #Patriots #ChristianGonzalez #DrakeMaye #PatriotsNews #NFL Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The New England Patriots passing attack has looked dangerous throughout training camp. But where is the running game? Most of the positive running-back plays we've heard about have actually come through the air, particularly with Rhamondre Stevenson. Even one of the biggest plays from Monday's practice was Drake Maye finding Stevenson for a touchdown to finish a situational drive. Meanwhile, Mike Vrabel has acknowledged questions surrounding New England's ability to run the football. The Patriots invested heavily in improving their offensive line, and eventually we need to see that translate into Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson consistently producing on the ground. There is one reason for optimism: defenses may be forced to respect Maye, AJ Brown, Romeo Doubs and New England's passing attack enough that lighter boxes eventually create opportunities for the running game. Plus, we may finally have a leader for RB3. After Henderson left practice with an ankle issue, Stevenson received the majority of the first-team work, while JaMycal Hasty was next in line. Lan Larison and Jam Miller sat, potentially giving us our clearest indication yet that Hasty currently leads the RB3 competition. The Patriots passing game looks ready. Now they need the running game to catch up. #NewEnglandPatriots #Patriots #DrakeMaye #RhamondreStevenson #TreVeyonHenderson #MikeVrabel #nfl Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Kayshon Boutte is gone, and everyone immediately wants to call Kyle Williams a winner of the New England Patriots trade.
I'm not there yet.
Williams has absolutely flashed this preseason. He's scored two touchdowns and shown impressive quickness, release ability and speed off the line.
But there's one pretty important detail:
Those touchdowns came from Tommy DeVito.
After 21 days of Patriots training camp, Williams had reportedly caught only two passes from Drake Maye. Meanwhile, Boutte had 18. AJ Brown had 51, Romeo Doubs had 36, and several other Patriots weapons were well ahead of Williams.
So if trading Boutte means Williams is about to receive a significantly larger role, it's time to start building that connection with Maye.
Plus, what exactly did New England get in return?
The Patriots acquired defensive back Jalen Reed along with a 2028 seventh-round pick. Reed now enters an already competitive defensive back room, potentially putting additional pressure on players like Dell Pettus as New England determines its final 53.
The Boutte trade created opportunities.
Now we find out who actually takes advantage of them.

Kyle Williams continues to make it harder for the New England Patriots to keep him off the field. Williams delivered another explosive touchdown during New England's 24-21 preseason win over the Philadelphia Eagles, but it wasn't simply the catch that stood out. His release. His quickness off the line. His ability to immediately create separation and then use his speed after getting open. We saw it on his touchdown against Indianapolis, and now we've seen it again against Philadelphia. The jump Williams appears to be making from last season is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. Plus, Kayshon Boutte continues showing why the Patriots should think twice before trading him. His leadership showed up after Nick DeGenero's touchdown, making sure the young receiver kept track of his first touchdown football despite all the uncertainty surrounding Boutte's own future. And Kindle Vildor might be forcing his way onto the 53-man roster. Vildor earned a 95.6 PFF grade against Philadelphia, the highest mark on New England's defense. Across 22 snaps, he was targeted three times, allowing one catch for six yards while also recording a pass breakup. Kyle Williams is earning a role. Kayshon Boutte continues to lead. And Kendall Vildor keeps making his roster case. #NewEnglandPatriots #Patriots #KyleWilliams #KayshonBoutte #KindleVildor #NFL Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! A Kayshon Boutte trade is starting to make more sense for the New England Patriots — even if I'm still not convinced they should actually do it. My issue has always been the return. If New England is only getting something like a sixth-round pick for Boutte, I'd rather keep another proven weapon around Drake Maye. But injuries are starting to hit receiver rooms around the NFL, and that could change Boutte's market. If a receiver-needy contender gets desperate enough and Boutte's value starts climbing toward something like a fourth-round pick? Now the Patriots have a real decision to make. Plus, Drake Maye and AJ Brown continue answering the pressure surrounding New England's offense. Training camp and joint practices aren't regular-season games, but the Patriots can only dominate what's currently in front of them — and Maye and Brown have consistently produced against their own defense and opposing defensive backs. The Kayshon Boutte trade conversation isn't going away. But for the first time, the potential return might make it worth listening. #NewEnglandPatriots #Patriots #KayshonBoutte #DrakeMaye #AJBrown #PatriotsNews #NFL Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The New England Patriots offense has given us plenty of reasons for optimism during training camp, but one major concern still hasn't gone away: the red zone. Drake Maye threw two interceptions during New England's second joint practice against the Philadelphia Eagles, both while targeting AJ Brown, with one reportedly coming in the red zone. After practice, Maye admitted the Patriots “could have done more in the red zone” and called it one of the offense's focuses this season. And there's a reason to focus on it. New England scored touchdowns on 55% of its red-zone trips last season, which ranked just 20th in the NFL. AJ Brown should help. So should Romeo Doubs, Hunter Henry, Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson. And don't forget about Drake Maye's ability to make plays with his legs. Plus, Kyle Williams continues to quietly impress during camp, including another big play during joint practices against Philadelphia. The question is whether he can turn those flashes into a consistent connection with Maye. There's a lot to like about this Patriots offense. But the red zone needs to get better. #NewEnglandPatriots #Patriots #DrakeMaye #AJBrown #PatriotsNews #NFL Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! AJ Brown couldn't have scripted his reunion with the Philadelphia Eagles much better. Brown reportedly caught seven passes from Drake Maye during the New England Patriots' joint practice against his former team, while New England's entire receiving corps seemed to have success. Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, Pop Douglas and Romeo Doubs all made plays as the Patriots offense continued its strong training camp. Then there was the other side. Jalen Hurts threw three interceptions against the Patriots defense — and New England did it without Christian Gonzalez. But speaking of Gonzo, the contract story just took another turn. After Ian Rapoport suggested a deal could happen relatively quickly, Adam Schefter pumped the brakes, saying he isn't convinced a Gonzalez extension will get done so soon. Both sides want a deal, but there appears to still be work to do. I still think this gets done before Week 1. AJ Brown got his day against Philadelphia. Now the Patriots need to take care of Gonzo. #NewEnglandPatriots #Patriots #AJBrown #DrakeMaye #ChristianGonzalez #Eagles #NFL Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The New England Patriots had A LOT to like during their joint practice against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Drake Maye continued his hot streak, going 3-for-3 during one sequence with completions to AJ Brown, Pop Douglas and Kyle Williams. New England's receivers also consistently created separation during one-on-one work, with Williams, Douglas and Mack Hollins all flashing.
But the Patriots defense may have been even more impressive.
New England generated multiple interceptions during 7-on-7 work, Marcus Jones picked off Jalen Hurts for a touchdown, John Saunders Jr. grabbed another interception and Kevin Byard broke up a pass intended for Dallas Goedert.
And maybe the biggest surprise: the Patriots secondary held its own against Philadelphia even without Christian Gonzalez.
Drake Maye is rolling. The weapons are making plays. And the defense just answered some legitimate questions.
Not a bad day for the New England Patriots.

The Christian Gonzalez contract saga with the New England Patriots may FINALLY be moving toward a resolution. NFL insider Ian Rapoport said he believes cooler heads can prevail and a deal between Gonzalez and the Patriots could get done “pretty quickly.” Rapoport also said he doesn't expect the situation to leak into the regular season. Patriots legend Devin McCourty also weighed in, suggesting this feels like the type of extension that ultimately gets done shortly before the season begins. Plus, New England might have a very different problem on offense: too many mouths to feed. Kyle Williams is generating buzz about earning a role, while the Patriots already have AJ Brown, Romeo Doubs, Pop Douglas, Mack Hollins and potentially Kayshon Boutte competing for opportunities from Drake Maye. The question isn't whether New England has weapons anymore — it's how Josh McDaniels gets everyone involved. #NewEnglandPatriots #Patriots #ChristianGonzalez #DrakeMaye #PatriotsNews #NFL Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
