Locked On Saints - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saint sand Jamis Winston will head into the 2022 season with no questions asked at starting quarterback. How that and the return of Michael Thomas could lay the ground for an improved air attack, as long as the necessary additions are made.

Tre'Quan Smith is back, but work is still to be done on the wide receiver front for the Saints.

Three four-round mock drafts break down how the NFL Draft's unexpected nature could impact positions of need for New Orleans.

Are reports about Tom Brady heading to the Miami Dolphins erroneous despite the potential being incredibly helpful for the New Orleans Saints? With the Saints having their quarterback situation handled for the 2022 NFL season, Marquez Valdes-Scantling was a big free agent wide receiver target.

Now that Valdes-Scantling has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs instead, where can the Saints go in free agency? The options are thinning. Julio Jones? Jarvis Landry? An Emmanuel Sanders reunion? Any and all doors should be left open.

But if the Saints loved the measureables of Valdes-Scantling, there are several wide receivers in the NFL Draft that check the same, or similar, boxes. NDSU's Christian Watson, USC's Drake London, Cincinnati's Alec Pierce, Georgie George Pickens and others could all be draft targets for the New Orleans Saints.

The New Orleans Saints look to be set going in to 2022 with Jameis Winston at quarterback. But bafflingly, NFL Draft Analyst seem to doubt that and want to send Kenny Pickett or Matt Corral to New Orleans as a rookie starter.

The Saints could very well take a quarterback in this year's draft, but to assume that they would then push aside $21 million of guaranteed money to Jameis Winston aside to one of the most questionable QB draft classes is a little farfetched. New Orleans looks set at quarterback barring injury in 2022 and there are many reasons why.

Regardless of whether or not they invest at quarterback, which wouldn't be out of the ordinary, the Saints will still need to add weapons to the offense. Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Will Fuller are free agent options, but there are several deep threat options outside of the first round of the NFL draft including Georgia's George Pickens, Nevada's Romeo Doubs, and North Dakota State's Christian Watson.

Some feel that the Saints are not a viable or attractive free agent destination. But Marcus Maye and Jameis Winston of the New Orleans Saints are setting the record straight. Why the Saints are still appealing to players looking for a landing spot and how New Orleans Pelicans guard CJ McCollum is helping the perception.

The New Orleans Saints lose their second big free agent in offensive tackle Terron Armstead as he agrees to a deal with the Miami Dolphins. Jameis Winston may have some comfort in a potential replacement option, but there are several free agents to also consider for the stopgap approach like Eric Fisher and Nate Solder.

Why didn’t the Saints match a $15 million per year deal? It might not have come down to the average per year, the Saints could have been being cautious about committing too many years to Armstead considering his recent health concerns and age. If that’s the case, would a veteran tackle even make sense? Or will the Saints Stay in-house and invest in the NFL Draft?

With Taysom Hill no longer expected to be a part of the quarterback conversation, does that mean he won’t be taking some change of pace snaps at signal-caller as well? If so, it could free up a veteran in-house option like James Hurst to step into a starting role on the left side where he only allowed 1 sack in 11 games in 2021. Meanwhile, young guys like Calvin Throckmorton, Ethan Greenidge, and Landon Young can fill in where needed as depth.

Jameis Winston is set o return to the New Orleans Saints on a two-year deal as their starting quarterback in 2022. With Taysom Hill expected to be out of the conversation at the position, the Saints have a clear identity to build around on offense, and will need to do so quickly.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling is still available as a field-stretching deep threat, but the Saints will need other options as well. Odell Beckham Jr. was close to landing with the Saints last year, could they pull him in this time around?

With Terron Armstead visiting the Miami Dolphins, could the Jameis Winston signing draw him back to the Big Easy? If they can't, moving Ryan Ramczyk to left tackle may be the most accessible next step ahead of looking to the NFL Draft.

With Jameis Winston back and Matt Ryan our in Atlanta, the Falcons bring in Marcus Mariota, fellow 2015 top NFL Draft pick. Now the two are set to meet twice a season. Things aren't going well in Atlanta, and while it's going to help the Saints, one has to question the way for Saints front office member Terry Fontenot is being seen in all of this.

Deshaun Watson is not headed to the Big Easy, but the New Orleans Saints have a ton of money to spend while Jameis Winston and Terron Armstead are still in play. Treylon Burks would be the perfect first round pick in this year's NFL draft to cap off this mock offseason.

The Saints can turn back to Jameis Winston, and bring back key free agents like P.J. Williams and Kwon Alexander before turning to the open market.

Outside wide receivers like Marquez Vales-Scantling and others could be perfect additions to helping the Saints revitalize their wide receiver group along with the return of Michael Thomas. With Alvin Kamara's potential suspension hanging in the balance, the Saints could look to the veteran running back market as well.

Is Treylon Burks the perfect wide receiver to add in the draft? Yes. Here's why. And how to finish filling the few holes left after key additions in free agency with this three-round mock draft to cap off our mock offseason.

The New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons are finalists in the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes, but is this gong on too long? Should the Saints just make Watson's decision for him and move on with their $30M of cap space to build their team?

If Watson chooses Atlanta, what can the Saints do? Signing Jameis Winston would be the first priority without a doubt. After that, bringing in wide receivers like Jarvis Landry, Marquez Valdez-Scantling, or Robert Woods would be next. Will Terron Armstead stay if the Saints move forward with Winston as opposed to Deshaun Watson? Their relationship may be a benefit.

Could Malcolm Jenkins be on his way to retirement? With the recent contract change, something may be signaled. This could be the reason the Saints and Tyrann Mathieu were connected early in the offseason.

The New Orleans Saints had a very important 24 hours with Deshaun Watson and their trade process., Gayle Benson and the Saints had a second meeting with Houston Texans quarterback, they cleared nearly $30M in cap space, and have seen the Cleveland Browns informed that they are out of the running. All signs point to the Saints beginning to close in on the embattled quarterback.

Trade packages will be hefty for Watson, but with his pending sexual misconduct civil cases and expected 6-game suspension, the price may not be as high in the end. What the parameters of the original asking price were, what the specific ask was from Houston, and what packages and players have been floated about. Could C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Paulsen Adebo, or Cesar Ruiz be on the move?

After quarterback, the Saints will need to figure out their plans at wide receiver behind Michael Thomas. Jarvis Landry was connected to the team early but his visit with the Atlanta Falcons seems to signal that the Saints weren't as in on him as expected. Why the wide receiver market has been so slow, and how it works to the Saints' benefit.

The New Orleans Saints lost Marcus Williams, but find his replacement in Marcus Maye, former New York Jet. Maye has seen his role change a bit in Robert Saleh's defense, but he's a quintessential single-high safety who will be able to step into Marcus Williams' role as long as his Achilles injury doesn't slow him down. How he fits, and what the contract looks like.

John Butchko of Locked On Jets joins the show to discuss Maye's contributes in New York and how he'll fit in New Orleans. Saints fans have a lot to be excited about with Maye thanks to his tackling, versatility and coverage ability. He also brings in solid character despite one misstep in the reporting of his pending DUI case to the team in 2021.

What's next for the Saints in free agency? Wide receiver and quarterback are drawing a lot of attention. Deshaun Watson is expected to make his decision soon after meeting with the Atlanta Falcons, and there are several very talented pass-catchers still available on the market including former LSU Tiger Jarvis Landry who has already been connected to the team.

The New Orleans Saints are now expected to move forward without star safety Marcus Williams after a deal was reportedly struck between he and the Baltimore Ravens that will become official when the new league year begins. P.J. Williams is still a good in-house replacement, but the team may have a homecoming opportunity for former LSU Tiger Tyrann Mathieu after the Kansas City Chiefs signed Justin Reid.

More suitors have entered the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes. Watson, who will be testifying regarding his 22 open civil cases of alleged sexual misconduct, has also set meetings with the Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons. Reports state he met with the Saints and Carolina Panthers on Tuesday and other reports reckon that the Saints are the front runner to land for Houston Texans QB and his complicated history.

The Saints can still look to go quarterback in this year's NFL Draft regardless of who they land at the position in the next few weeks. Why a second-round QB could be a good get for Dennis Allen and his new team. Garrett Wilson is a great fit with Michael Thomas, but looking at more athletes in day three could lead to double dipping at the position.
