Locked On Sun Devils - Daily Podcast On Arizona State Sun Devils Football & Basketball

The 2023 NBA Draft has come and gone and unsurprisingly no Arizona State Sun Devils basketball players were selected. However, Desmond Cambridge Jr. and Marcus Bagley will both get opportunities at the next level in the summer league with the Toronto Raptors and Philadelphia 76ers respectively. What they do will be up to them, but there is hope yet for a pro future. meanwhile, host Richie Bradshaw ponders which current Sun Devils could have a future in the NBA one day with three standing out more than others - Frankie Collins, Jamiya Neal, and Malachi Davis. Join us as we discuss all of this and more on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

Kenny Dillingham has wasted no time bringing his recruiting prowess to Arizona State Sun Devils football. He turned around an abysmal 2023 class under Herm Edwards into a respectable class in a few short months. The Sun Devils are also already on the cusp of a top-30 class for 2024 already. Yesterday, Dillingham and Beau Baldwin landed consensus 4-star quarterback Michael Tollefson for the 2025 class. Clearly, Dillingham is quite comfortable in the recruiting circles, as is the rest of his staff. But with the addition of Tollefson in particular it begs the question - is Dillingham a quarterback guru? The 30-something head coach has quite the track record for success at the position prior to Arizona State and in six months has brought in Tollefson for 2025 and Jaden Rashada, another consensus 4-star quarterback for this year. Many believe that Dilly might have something figured out at the position and host Richie Bradshaw appears to agree and breaks it all down on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

A new season and a new staff mean new opportunities for many Arizona State Sun Devils football players in 2023 and the defensive side of the football is no different than the offense we discussed last week. New defensive coordinator Brian Ward is sure to get his best 11 players on the field on a consistent basis and that means throwing out everything we thought we knew about this defense and understanding that playing time is fair game for everyone no matter how old, young, new, or otherwise you are. Host Richie Bradshaw believes that many opportunities are open for just about everyone but to watch out for B.J. Green, Will Shaffer, and Isaiah Johnson specifically, as we break down these three and more on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

It was a long and grueling season for Arizona State Sun Devils football in 2022 for everyone involved ranging from the fans to the players. While there were some bright spots, there were far more frustrating moments and opportunities lost. Heading into 2023, many returning players from last year will be looking for better seasons than a year ago and may even be listed as breakout candidates. Host Richie Bradshaw looks at the offensive side of the football first and has his eye on three guys in particular - Tevin White, Joey Ramos, and Messiah Swinson - to enjoy much better seasons in 2023 whether they breakout out into stars or just get onto the football field more consistently. We break them each down on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

Arizona State Sun Devils football had a nice-sized group of 2024 football prospects visit Tempe this past weekend and it appears that most of them enjoyed their visit quite a bit. Of the group, the Sun Devils saw two players, Cullen Charles and Mason Fleming commit on Saturday, June 10, and then had a third player, James Giggey commit Monday night. It appears that even the players who didn't commit had a great visit and it's truly a testament to the movement that Sun Devils football has seen under Kenny Dillingham in such a short amount of time. Host Richie Bradshaw updates you on the recruiting side of things for the Sun Devils and discusses why Dillingham's brand building at Arizona State University has been such a big deal and why it will lead to a quick turnaround on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

Reports are swirling around the University of Arizona Wildcats and their potential, or perhaps inevitable, departure from the PAC-12 to the Big-12 and it has many wondering if the rivalry with the Arizona State Sun Devils and the Territorial Cup's future is in jeopardy. Host Richie Bradshaw is here to dispel your questions or even worries about the status of the Territorial Cup with a history lesson about the rivalry that dates back to 1899. The rivalry between Arizona State and Arizona is so old that not only was Arizona State not even a state university, but the state of Arizona itself was still a territory without statehood! And in between that time, there have been more than a few moments of hate to make sure that no matter where these teams play sports, this rivalry is here to stay. Get a history lesson on the Territorial Cup and hear why it isn't going anywhere on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

The initial ballot for the 2023 College Football Hall of Fame class has been announced and three Arizona State Sun Devils football legends have made the list - defensive end Terrell Suggs, placekicker Luis Zendejas, and head coach Daryl Rogers. Of the three, Suggs stands out as one of the greatest defensive players college football has ever seen, standing on 44 career sacks (second-most in a career) with his single-season 24 sacks standing as the single-season record to this day. Zendejas was the definition of consistent back in the 80s and actually kicked for Rogers in four of his five seasons in Tempe, including a 1982 Rose Bowl win over Oklahoma. Host Richie Bradshaw looks at the three candidates and why each belongs in the annals of the College Football Hall of Fame on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

It will be easy to overlook the Arizona State Sun Devils' defense in 2023 after what we saw a year ago from the team, but don't be fooled - this unit is different and ready to shock the world. The Sun Devils secondary in particular will be much better than many will initially believe. Star-in-the-making Ro Torrence will be looking to build upon a great 2022 campaign and turn into the lockdown cover man many believe him to be, while he has several suitors to be his partner in crime behind him. Chris Edmonds returns at the safety spot and the competition is so good that he should be sleeping with one eye open just to be safe. Jordan Clark, Ed Woods, and Macen Williams return as well, with crucial transfers Shamari Simmons and Xavion Alford rounding out the group, but don't forget about all the incoming freshmen, too... With so many studs and future stars in this secondary, host Richie Bradshaw loves what he sees and is here to encourage you all to buy in on the unit on this positional breakdown episode of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

Of every position on the 2023 Arizona State Sun Devils football roster, perhaps no other spot has more uncertainty than the linebacker position. The Sun Devils are facing a complete overhaul at the position after years of consistent play from guys like Merlin Robertson and Kyle Soelle. Now, the position will be led by Washington State Cougars transfer Travion Brown and returning vets like Will Shaffer, James Djonkam, Caleb McCullough, and many more. The entire roster has next to no playtime experience, meaning vets like those just listed and newbies like freshman K'Vion Thunderbird or transfers Tate Romney and Krew Jackson will all be on an equal playing field. Will this be a good thing or a bad thing for a new-look defense under Brian Ward? Host Richie Bradshaw discusses the uncertainty at the position and why a starting gig is up for absolutely anybody on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.
