Locked On Sun Devils - Daily Podcast On Arizona State Sun Devils Football & Basketball

Of every position on the 2023 Arizona State Sun Devils football roster, perhaps no other spot has more uncertainty than the linebacker position. The Sun Devils are facing a complete overhaul at the position after years of consistent play from guys like Merlin Robertson and Kyle Soelle. Now, the position will be led by Washington State Cougars transfer Travion Brown and returning vets like Will Shaffer, James Djonkam, Caleb McCullough, and many more. The entire roster has next to no playtime experience, meaning vets like those just listed and newbies like freshman K'Vion Thunderbird or transfers Tate Romney and Krew Jackson will all be on an equal playing field. Will this be a good thing or a bad thing for a new-look defense under Brian Ward? Host Richie Bradshaw discusses the uncertainty at the position and why a starting gig is up for absolutely anybody on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

Continuing our series of previewing positional camp battles for the 2023 Arizona State Sun Devils football program takes us to the defensive side of the ball and into the trenches with the defensive line. New defensive coordinator Brian Ward has a lot of interesting talent to work with between his edge rushers and his interior defensive linemen and it should lead to some intriguing and perhaps even controversial camp battles. On the edge, veteran Michael Matus returns from an ACL injury sustained last year and must now fend off transfer Clayton Smith, position-switched B.J. Green, and several other youngsters looking for playing time. Inside, transfer Dashaun Mallory appears to be the only sure thing with lots of unproven newbies to both the position and the team as a whole like C.J. Fite, Anthonie Cooper, Tristan Monday, Samuel Benjamin, and others will battle for playtime. Host Richie Bradshaw looks at the defensive line as a whole and breaks down how the lack of certainties could play out for the Sun Devils on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

It's the competition piece you've all been waiting for - quarterback. It's a new era of Arizona State Sun Devils football and that (potentially) means a new face under center. Kenny Dillingham and the Sun Devils will have no shortage of competition with four guys, Trenton Bourguet, Drew Pyne, Jacob Conover, and Jaden Rashada all competing for the right to QB1. Many will be wishing for the future to start now with 4-star recruit Rashada commanding the most attention, but returning starter Bourguet should get every opportunity to start. Transfers Pyne and Conover will also get their chances to start. The bottom line is the starting gig is wide open to all four of these guys and host Richie Bradshaw breaks down why anyone of these guys could start on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

A new-look offense for the Arizona State Sun Devils football program under Kenny Dillingham and Beau Baldwin will have a severe boost in production thanks to the pass catchers on deck. The wide receiver room has unbelievable depth and the tight end room has some tremendous upside. With the top of the depth chart looking like Elijhah Badger, Xavier Guillory, Giovanni Sanders, and Jordyn Tyson out wide with Jalin Conyers at tight end, few collegiate teams could ask for much more. With depth behind them, the Sun Devils are in business for their passing attack. Host Richie Bradshaw breaks down the pass-catching core for both wide receivers and tight ends with everything you need to know on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

A new era of Arizona State Sun Devils football means a new offensive philosophy and thus new ways to use the weapons at the offense's disposal. In our series previewing camp battles across positions way too early, we look to the running back room, which may have the least experience of any other position on the roster, let alone the offense. Leading the charge will be Sacramento State transfer Cameron Skattebo, who had more carries in 2022 than the rest of the guys on the Sun Devils roster have career touches combined. This will give Skattebo an early edge in the race, but the transition from Big-Sky football to PAC-12 football should not be overlooked. Meanwhile, another transfer and local kid, DeCarlos Brooks will look to make a name for himself in his home state, while red-shirt freshman and incoming freshman Tevin White and Kyson Brown respectively will try to make impacts in their young careers. George Hart will be trying to break out in year three, and wide receiver convert Javen Jacobs should have your full attention. Host Richie Bradshaw breaks down this crazy positional battle for the Arizona State Sun Devils football program on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

With summertime beginning to roll in the timing feels right to kick off our series of breaking down positional battles across the 2023 Arizona State Sun Devils football team position by position. There will be lots of competition this year, too, thanks to a plethora of transfers, departures, arrivals, and most importantly a new coach in Kenny Dillingham. We begin our series with the offensive line, where no one feels safe to be a starter come week one. There appears to be some development reported for junior Isaia Glass, while transfers Ben Coleman, Aaron Frost, and Leif Fantanu will compete for starting gigs. Returning guys like Joey Ramos, Ben Bray, and Emmit Bohle will go against each other, and some more transfers like Bram Walden, Matt Iheanachor, and Kyle Scott. With so many players competing for play time, where do we even begin? Host Richie Bradshaw gives his two cents on perhaps the most uncertain and wide-open positional battle for the 2023 Arizona State Sun Devils football program on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

Yesterday was discussing a game plan for Kenny Dillingham and Arizona State Sun Devils football in 2023 and today we turn the page to 2024. When we talk about rebuilding college football programs, it's important to lay out a roadmap years in advance to understand where you need to be step by step and make sure you're making steady progress forward. By the time the 2023 season ends, the number one thing on Dilly's mind should be to continue his upward trend in recruiting. Dillingham had solid success in year one but needs to take his game up a notch in 2024. There are lots of great prospects to be had and it'll be worth watching to see how he handles that next step. We'll also be watching to see what his 2023 recruiting class, including Jaden Rashada, looks like for year two. And in a PAC-12 conference that will be experiencing a lot of changes in 2024, many will be hoping for an ascension toward the upper half of the conference. Host Richie Bradshaw discusses the game plan for 2024 for Kenny Dillingham and Arizona State Sun Devils football on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.

It's been a while since we talked about Kenny Dillingham regarding his tenure as the head coach of Arizona State Sun Devils football. Now that we are in the thick of the 2023 offseason now feels as good a time as any to discuss some expectations for Dilly in 2023 and beyond. For the 2023 season, expectations for Dillingham in terms of wins and losses should be tempered, however, that doesn't have anything to do with what we want to see in year one. What we expect to see are the beginning of Dillingham's establishment of his culture ranging from the players to the students and even the fans. There will be many eyes on the incoming recruiting class including prized possession Jaden Rashada as well as the plethora of transfers coming into the program. Host Richie Bradshaw breaks down a reasonable and realistic game plan for Dillingham in year one with Arizona State Sun Devils football on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.
