Locked On Suns - Daily Podcast On The Phoenix Suns

Brendon Kleen (@BrendonKleen14) is joined by Brandon Duenas (@ZonaHoops_) to discuss the Suns' 73-72 loss in game one of NBA Summer League. The Suns were led by Jalen Smith, who played 30 minutes and starred on both offense and defense. What should we expect from Smith in Las Vegas and during his second season, and how should that inform how the Suns build out the roster during the rest of free agency?

Brendon Kleen (@BrendonKleen14) is joined by Brandon Duenas (@ZonaHoops_) of Zona Hoops and Bright Side of the Sun to recap the first night of NBA free agency, which saw the Suns bring back Chris Paul on a massive new contract, re-sign Cameron Payne on a very team-friendly three-year deal, and add a legit veteran center in JaVale McGee to back up Deandre Ayton.

Duane Rankin (@DuaneRankin) of the Arizona Republic joins host Brendon Kleen (@BrendonKleen14) to get you ready for the start of NBA free agency as a new Chris Paul contract takes shape. We talk through the options available to Paul and the Suns, what the market for Cameron Payne might be, whether it makes sense to sign Mikal Bridges and Deandre Ayton to extensions now, and which of the end-of-bench players might be back from E'Twaun Moore to Torrey Craig.

Brendon Kleen (@BrendonKleen14) breaks down the Suns' surprising trade for Landry Shamet from every angle, including the upside still left for Shamet to tap into and why it will make the Suns better in 2022, as well as how it shows us that James Jones and the Suns' front office see 2022 as perhaps their last best shot at winning a title with the current core before it starts to get super expensive. Lastly, Brendon gives his thoughts on the Lakers' trade for Russell Westbrook and how it weakens a key Western Conference rival.

Questions abound for the Suns ahead of NBA free agency: How can the Suns keep Chris Paul? Is Cameron Payne going to be too expensive? Is it worth keeping Torrey Craig? What other free agents around the NBA and make sense? And could the Suns actually be better in 2022? We take a break from NBA Draft coverage to give you a preview of everything the Suns could do in the coming week during free agency.

With just over 48 hours left until the NBA Draft, Rafael Barlowe of the Locked On NBA Draft podcast and the NBA Draft Junkies YouTube channel joins the show to break down all the Suns' options at 29, including a player we haven't discussed a ton, the uber-young, uber-skilled Jaden Springer. We also discuss players like Tre Mann and Day'Ron Sharpe, and close with more talk on whether the James Jones draft philosophy is replicable across the NBA.
