Locked On Suns - Daily Podcast On The Phoenix Suns

It's NBA Draft week! Today's show gets you ready with everything you need to know by answering three main questions. First, what type of player will James Jones be targeting this time around? Second, who will actually be available by the time the Suns draft at 29? And lastly, could a trade back for two second-round picks (hello, OKC) or for a win-now veteran contributor (hello, Buddy Hield) be in the cards for the Suns on draft night?

It's time to close the book on the 2020-21 Phoenix Suns season by taking your calls. But first, the pros and cons of the Suns running it back with this same core in 2022 (hint: it's a very good idea), plus initial thoughts on trade targets like Buddy Hield and Doug McDermott or potential picks like Nah'Shon Hyland of VCU with the 29th pick in next week's NBA Draft.

As the dust clears from the NBA Finals, Gina Mizell of Suns.com joins the show to discuss what this deep postseason run means for the Suns, this fan base and the organization more broadly. We discuss Devin Booker taking the leadership baton from Chris Paul, the Suns being set up for future success with a young, developing core, and Valley sports fans finally having a homegrown core to root for after years of hired hands leading our teams. To close, a few initial thoughts on what to believe about Chris Paul's free agency and why the Lakers are the only threat that's even worth considering at this point.

Another heartbreaking six-game loss in the NBA Finals is in the rearview for the Phoenix Suns, and Brandon Duenas of Bright Side of the Sun and Zona Hoops joins the show to process it all. We discuss why the Bucks were able to get the best of the Suns in the Finals, what this series taught us about the team and the beginning of a special new era in the Valley, and why the 2020-21 season should still be remembered as a huge positive for the Suns despite how this loss stings.

The Suns don't need to lick their wounds after a narrow Game Five defeat in the NBA Finals. The series is still there for the taking. Jackson Frank of Dime Magazine and The Analyst joins to chip in on the ongoing debate over Devin Booker's scoring, plus preview Game Six big-picture. We discuss where the Deandre Ayton we saw in the Western Conference Finals went and whether his minutes load is finally getting to him. We also hit on how the Bucks are using their size and strength in this series and how the Suns can counter it, and finally how ineffective offense leads to bad defense if the Suns don't play with discipline and adjust on the fly.

Time to look back on the Suns' 123-119 loss in Game Five of the NBA Finals. Our three lingering thoughts from the home loss are the Bucks' shooting performance being less sustainable than what Devin Booker is doing, the Suns going away from their offensive creativity and defensive energy in the second and third quarters, and finally the Suns proving they could once again win in the hustle categories by selling out on the glass and taking care of the ball. That leaves us with a stars vs. stars series heading into Game Six tomorrow in Milwaukee.

Get ready for Game Five of the NBA Finals with David Nash of the Four Point Play newsletter and the Seven Seconds or Less Podcast. We look closer at how to get the offense going through Devin Booker and Chris Paul, putting Mikal Bridges in a better position to succeed (maybe a new defensive matchup for Bridges?), and turning the tide of the hustle stats with better rebounding, fewer turnovers, and more cohesiveness overall as a team.

We're all wondering what's up with Chris Paul after a 109-103 loss by the Phoenix Suns in Game Four of the NBA Finals, and tonight's show dives into all of it. We discuss how Paul's bizarrely quiet game played out, how it hurt the Suns, and whether it is his torn wrist ligaments acting up again, or just an off night. Then, a closer look at how the Bucks won the hustle game yet again, and how Giannis benefited most. To close, heaping praise on Devin Booker's massive (and predictable) performance that was unfortunately hampered by run-ins with the referees.

Get ready for Game Four of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night with this preview pod, featuring the two main keys to a Suns win. First, Devin Booker having a more efficient scoring night and a big first quarter can change the entire landscape of the game, giving the Suns a more diverse offense and making Giannis and Milwaukee do more defensively. Second, stopping the Bucks by stopping Giannis, a difficult balancing act that is necessary in order to win. The show closes with some thoughts on Willie Green, who will reportedly be the next head coach in New Orleans, why he is a great candidate to coach the Pelicans and what the Suns will lose in him next season.

How can the Suns limit Giannis Antetokounmpo in Game Four after he combined for 83 points the last two game? Why does the Bucks' offense suddenly look more crisp than Phoenix's? And why was the Suns' offense so turnover-prone and inefficient in Game Three? Today's show is all about answers, as we dig into the numbers and the film behind the Suns' 20-point loss to see what is and isn't worth worrying about.
