Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb, along with two of his colleagues, recently penned a scientific paper that argues the interstellar object recently discovered to be moving through our solar system may not be a comet like other scientists have suggested. Instead, Loeb believes the object could be some sort of alien probe. However, if it turns out the object is, in fact, extraterrestrial in nature, what is unknown is whether it was sent here for benign or malign reasons, Loeb indicated.
