Chelsea vs. Manchester City

Barclays Premier League

Talking Points

Chelsea headed into this game having only lost 2 of their last 9 matches against Man City (W4, D3)

Mourinho is W7-D3-L2 in his 12 matches against Pellegrinoooo

Chelsea are W11-D5-L1 in their last 17 Premier League home games against Manchester City

According to Dan Levene’s post-match article, this was the highest viewed Premier League game EVER

Injuries, suspensions AND transfers gave Jose a bit to think about going into this match

Drogba vs. Remy

Zouma vs. Cahill

Great opening goal by Remy thanks to a surprisingly delicate ball by Ivanovic and Hazard played the most beautiful one-touch ball right through the six that Joe Hart could only admire and Kompany could only act surprised as he reacted too slowly

Question

Is Frank Lampard a legend or villain?

Chelsea at Newcastle United

Barclays Premier League

GUEST: Robert, Managing Editor of Coming Home Newcastle (http://cominghomenewcastle.sbnation.com/)

@BishopSBN

Talking Points:

Newcastle won at home to end Chelsea’s unbeaten streak

Most Chelsea fans used not having Matic as the excuse

Newcastle are coming off a 3-1 loss to Man United and a 1-0 loss in the FA Cup to Leicester City

Newcastle doesn’t have a manager at the moment, only a caretaker. This shouldn’t change too much though, right? I mean he’s essentially just maintaining what Pardew was doing.

Rumors that Mike Ashley wants to sell the club. How does that affect the team’s focus?

Sissoko rumored to be heading to PSG

Chelsea are 9-0-0 at Stamford Bridge, but are coming off a heavy loss to Tottenham and an expected win against Watford in the FA Cup

Chelsea don’t have any reported injuries nor anybody going to the African or Asian Cup thanks to Drogba turning down that opportunity

Newcastle have two players at the African Cup: Papiss Cisse (thankfully!) and Cheick Tiote and 12 reported injuries mainly to the defensive unit, right?

Tim Krul looks set to return though

Four Four Two Highlights

Key Battle: Costa vs Dummett

Newcastle have scored more goals via substitutes than anybody else (cough Cisse, cough)

Chelsea score on 18% of shots and their shots are on frame 50% or the time (most in PL)

Last 6 matches

CFC: 3-1-2

Newcastle: 2-1-3

Standings

CFC: 1st*

Newcastle: 10th

Past meeting:

December, 2014 - CFC 1-2 NUFC

Predictions

Brandon: CFC 2-0 Newcastle

Dan: CFC 2-0 Newcastle

Nick: CFC 3-1 Newcastle

Robert: CFC 2-1 Newcastle

Away: CFC 1-1 Southampton

Away: CFC 3-5 Tottenham

Talking Points

8-point lead is now level on points and goal difference with Manchester City

Squad rotation vs. lack of depth

Away form hurting Chelsea FC - thankfully not too many difficult away games left

Time for Cahill to be benched? Zouma or Ivanovic?

Mourinho's teams ALWAYS win when in 1st place heading into the New Year
