Can we still reach across the aisle in 2020? One of my best friends and host of the epic podcast "Hashtag No Filter" is turning the tables on me in this two-way interview where we go into why I started "Look Ma', No Hands", the truth behind my political convictions and why I think the intersection between motherhood and politics is so important.
Chanda Scott's daughter was a perfectly-developing 15-month old when suddenly, everything changed. Chanda came home to find her daughter has an escalating fever and was listless: she could no longer walk, talk or do any of the things that she was capable of just days before. She would later find out that her daughter had contracted Kawasaki disease, also known as mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome, which while extremely rare and treatable, would change their lives forever. In this episode of "Look Ma', No Hands", Chanda tells us how this moment changed her perspective, the way she approaches her business "The Pampered Pickle", and so much more.
I had a 30-hour labor with my firstborn that concluded in a c-section, several months of trauma and some physical agony to follow. I went for the big "VBAC" (Vaginal birth after c-section) with my second birth and now I have a lot to share about the process and what it really means to birth a baby...and a mother. I'm sitting down with the two birth doulas who helped me birth my second daughter Violet to discuss how we can better understand the meaning of birth and the importance of postpartum care for the modern day mama.
For the first-ever episode of Look Ma', No Hands, I'm sitting down with functional nutritionist and self-proclaimed "Period Guru" Jenna Longoria to talk about hormonal imbalance, postpartum anxiety and depression, the side effects of hormonal birth control and how we can use what we know about our monthly cycles to empower ourselves throughout the month and live free-er of what weighs us down hormonally.
