  • 45| Rey in Episode IX and the influence from Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel
We discuss how Star Wars Episode IX, The Rise of Skywalker, has similarities with superhero movies and how the fairly recent successes of female-lead Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel might have caused some influences in its production and planning.
We also comment on other superhero movies and Marvel movies, such as Endgame. We note the different tropes in Marvel and DC and Star Wars, and how some plot points were poorly copied from movies like Wonder Woman.
We also discuss Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, Black Widow and Harley Quinn.

  • 44| Motherhood In Star Wars
We discuss how motherhood is portrayed in Star Wars. As a movie series focused on father and sons in its first trilogy, Star Wars doesn't leave a lot of room for mothers, but they play important roles, especially in the Prequel Trilogy.
In the Old Trilogy, we discuss Aunt Beru's role and Leia's sometimes motherly behaviour.
We then look at Shmi Skywalker and Padme in the Prequel trilogy.
Finally, we look at Leia in the Sequel Trilogy.
We also debate Mara Jade and Leia in Legends.

  • 43| Book Recommendations for Reylo fans
In this video, Mary and Denise recommend some recent books they enjoyed as a way to get our heads out of Star Wars and support female creators. Women are writing tons of great books, and that’s where we can find stories with strong heroines, happy endings, and interesting romantic plots.
Lots of fantasy, enemies-to-lovers romance, some weird plots, beauty and the beast and Eros and Psyche retellings, fairytale vibes, from both indie and trad authors.
Some of the books we discuss or mention are:
A Promise of Darkness by Bec McMaster
Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
    Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Rodge
    Air Awakens by Elise Kova
Uprooted and Spinning Silver by Naomi Nokik
    Neron Rising by Keary Taylor
Dark King by C. N Crawford
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

  • 42| Female Sexuality In The Sequel Trilogy
From exchanging the force in TFA, to wet gloves and a wet cave in TLJ, to Klaud, snake in a cave, and phallic symbols everywhere in TROS, Mary and Denise look at sexual undertones, symbolism, and how female sexuality is portrayed in the Sequel Trilogy.
We discuss the sexual undertones and symbolism from The Force Awakens, how The Last Jedi had a different approach, and how The Rise of Skywalker tried to rise up to the challenge.

  • 40| The Folk of the Air Review and Discussion
Mary and Denise give you a nonspoilery review and discussion of the YA fantasy book series The Folk of the Air followed by a deep discussion for those of us who read the books The Cruel Prince, The Wicked King, and The Queen of Nothing.
If you haven't read The Cruel Prince, you'll learn what it's all about and why we enjoyed it. It has an interesting female protagonist, some interesting enemis-to-lovers romance, and a cool plot with political intrigue.
We discuss the interesting female protagonist, Jude Duarte, and her relationships with Cardan, Madoc, Taryn, Locke, and more.

  • 39| Why we love Ben Solo
Ben Solo is the most popular character in the Sequel Trilogy.
Mary, Lee, and Denise discuss the reasons for that, and analyze Ben Solo's journey, from his introduction as masked Kylo Ren, to his redemption, or bendemption, in Episode IX, including his background in comics such as The Rise of Kylo Ren.
Of course a character with elements from Star Wars' two most popular male characters, Darth Vader and Han Solo, would be popular. But there are also elements in his story and plot that make people identify with him.
We look at the complexity in Kylo Ren / Ben Solo's character, and also his relationships with Han Solo, Leia, and Luke. We delve into his relationship with Rey and what Reylo and his romantic interest mean in his arc. We also look at what could have been and missed opportunities with Poe and Finn.
Finally, we explain why fans are asking: Save Ben Solo, or bring Ben Solo Back alive, what undoing his unsatisfying death in Episode IX would mean for Star Wars. Whispers: redemption

  • 38| What happened to Episode IX? Ben Solo's fate, rushed production, reshoots.
In this video, Mary and Denise try to understand a little more what happened in the production of the Rise of Skywalker and how they came to the fim presented on screen.
We discuss Ben Solo's death (or disappearance), the lack of theme for that moment or mourning, and whether it had been planned ahead or if there had been some changes.
We go over the evidence for re-edits from interviews with the editor.
We also comment on the cast reaction about the ending.
We go over a bit more about Ben Solo, abandoned possibilities, Colin Trevorrow's script, issues with the script of Episode IX and the sequel trilogy, and more.

  • 37| Trevorrow's script and what happened to Ep IX
In this episode, Mary and Denise discuss the production of Star Wars Episode IX, The Rise of Skywalker and why there are signs that many changes happened in it, especially in Colin Trevorrow's version, the leaked Artbook, and interviews with Chris Terrio and more cast and crew.
We start by discussing Colin Trevorrow's treatment for Episode IX, what we can learn from it, what was carried to JJ and Terrio's movie, and what it means for the story and for the trilogy.
We then discuss a recently leaked Artbook that was released in Korea, with some important information missing! By the way, since we recorded it, the artbook has been called back and is no longer for sale.
We also take some hints from the leaks, which seem more and more reliable by now, and try to trace what happened to Episode IX and how Lucasfilm arrived at its final product.
Finally, we look at some cast and crew interviews for more hints about the production of Episode IX.
