  • Episode 78 - "The Lost Benny Album"

20 years ago Jaymee met an unbelievably talented songwriter named Benny who had been touring in a popular Beatles Cover band as the "Paul McCartney" of the group, who could mimic Paul's voice, movements and play multiple instruments like Paul to perfection. At one point Jaymee heard a collection of home recordings Benny had been compiling on a new digital home recording software using dial up internet (2003). The songs and recordings were heavily influenced musically by The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Harry Nilsson and Kurt Cobain, with super vulnerable comedic lyrics, all held together in an unintentionally cool low-fi sound. Jaymee's mind was blown instantly, and he coveted these unknown recordings with a passion, but shortly after meeting Benny, Jaymee's life began the downward spiral of addiction and homelessness (that has been well documented on this show), and the two new friends lost all communication for the past two decades.

Jaymee was so excited recently to find the collection of old Benny recordings, and began listening to them often and sharing them with friends, realizing this collection of songs is one of Jaymee's favorite albums of all time. As fortune would have it, Benny and Jaymee reunited a couple weeks ago, and Jaymee invited him on the podcast to unleash this album on the public once and for all, and share some of the heartbreaking and downright hilarious stories behind the songs and recordings that have captivated and inspired Jaymee as an artist since 2003.

On this episode, the two old friends listen to all 11 songs, taking a break after each to comment, to laugh and even sing together back the favorite parts of each recording. You'll get to hear Jaymee in a rare music nerd space, and Benny is sure to win you over as one of the most lovable and talented human beings on the planet.

  • Episode 40 - Raghu Markus returns
Raghu Markus is Executive Director of the Love Serve Remember Foundation, which preserves the legacy and teachings of Ram Dass and the great Indian saint Neem Karoli Baba ("Maharaji-ji"). Raghu is also host of Mindrolling Podcast, and is easily recognizable as the friendly voice who introduces hundreds of Ram Dass lectures on the Here And Now Podcast.
Raghu and Jaymee have become close friends over the past year, and it is through the vehicle of this extraordinary friendship that Jaymee was able on this occasion to capture his favorite Raghu Markus interview of all time, super loose and full of spiritual hi-jinks. Recorded live at Ram Dass HQ in Ojai, CA, in the highly charged Love Serve Remember kirtan space.

  • Episode 38 - Rob Dietrich
Rob Dietrich is the currently the Master Distiller of Metallica's Blackened American Whiskey, though he may have the most diverse resume in his field, reflecting a man that remains impossible to categorize (and hard to hold down for long). Rob is a combat veteran who joined the Army in his twenties and served three tours, one of them being the incident referred to as "Black Hawk Down". He's a lifelong die-hard music fan of every genre, who chooses to have a record player in his home instead of a television. Rob also has an impressive music career, formerly having worked for Bill Graham Presents for a decade (his first assignment for the world famous promoter was The Tibetan Freedom Concert in 1996, which made an indelible impression and impact on his life).
This another episode that feels like "Jaymee's made a new best friend" (which seem to be happening more often these days). This episode was the brainchild of Jaymee's brother Benjamin Carpenter, who works for Rob and Metallica at Blackened.
    Also discussed:
why vinyl records and coolections are important
Big Black (and other groups you haven't heard of that we have)

  • Episode 72 - "Richard Eagleton"

Richard Eagleton is a musician and spiritual seeker who met Jaymee's parents in the 1970's, eventually joining their band in Los Angeles in 1976, the year Jaymee was born. Born in Beirut, Lebanon to an American Diplomat in the 1950's, Richard had a rich multicultural experience throughout his youth, setting the stage nicely for the spiritual exploration and psychedelic ingestion that arrived in the late 1960's. After studying various spiritual paths and receiving teachings from notable teachers such as Muktananda and Neem Karoli Baba, Richard eventually had a chance meeting with one of the great Tibetan Buddhist masters of the 20th century, Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche, and instantly became a lifelong student and collaborator.

Richard took interest in becoming a documentary filmmaker, and one of his first projects was documenting John Cleese meeting His Holiness The Dalai Lama at his monastery in Dharmsala. He also had the honor of being hired to document a rare meeting between The Prince Of Ethiopia and Rita Marley at her home in Jamaica, and shares wisdom he learned from encounters with Jamaican shamans on that trip and (truly) so much more.

This conversation was the first ever between Jaymee and Richard, who hadn’t seen Jaymee since he was a newborn in 1976. In the first 5 minutes of their reuniting, it became obvious that the two were old friends who had simply never met, who now had a ton to catch up on. Jaymee fired up the Rodecaster Pro and had mics up in minutes, so you'll have the opportunity to enjoy one of Jaymee’s favorite conversations on the podcast to date.

  • Episode 35 - Zach Leary
Zach Leary is the host of the MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) Podcast and the son of psychedelic pioneer Timothy Leary. Zach grew up surrounded by the deities of the counterculture, and had the extraordinary karma of being partially raised by Ram Dass, but life wasn't all rainbows and orange sunshine growing up Leary. In an intimate conversation with Jaymee, Zach generously shares the pain and the magic of being raised in and out of the shadow of the most polarizing public figures and brilliant minds of the 20th century. Chalked full of rarely heard stories from the dinner table of the psychedelic revolution, including Ram Dass's secret grudge and Timothy's final moments on Earth, call a trip sitter as we journey through the extraordinary life of Zach Leary.

  • Episode 70 - "Magical Mystical Tour! w/ Levi James"

For his 30th birthday, Levi James' partner Karley wanted to blow his mind with the perfect present, something intangible to encourage his spiritual growth. Knowing how big of a fan Levi is of both Love Is The Author and Jaymee's former podcast Mystical/Cynical, Karley blindly reached out to Lacee months ago from their home near Calgary, Canada to see if she could schedule two future in-person mentorship sessions with Jaymee, and surprise Levi with an unforgettable trip to Ojai.

What Levi received this week upon his arrival was far more psychedelic and unexpected: a full immersion into the podcast itself! Jaymee created an interactive podcast experience for Levi's birthday, touring sites featured on the show including John Dennis' vintage shop (Episode 22), a special visit with Raghu Markus at the Love Serve Remember kirtan space, a meditation at dusk with the Love Is The Author sangha in Ojai, finally ending up on the set of Mystical/Cynical Season 2 (Jaymee and Lacee's couch) as today's guest.

As if this episode weren't bursting enough, the show takes an unexpected turn when Levi shares the moving story of how he found this show, including the craziest Ayahusaca story you've ever heard, guaranteed.
