Brazilian President Lula da Silva has called for BRICS countries to develop an alternative to the dollar in foreign trade, while visiting the New Development Bank in Shanghai. Lula suggested the bank could have its own currency to finance trade relations between Brazil, China and other BRICS nations, arguing that using local currencies would eliminate the need for a third currency and reduce transaction costs.
