Being "peculiar" might not mean the same thing we think it means, at least not when we explore the meaning of the original word for "peculiar" as used in1 Peter 2:4-10. But, because of the way the world sees believers in Christ we are in fact a bit peculiar. Learn how we can be peculiar and why it's important that we are.

1 Peter 1:13-23

"Living like you’ve got a new heart" explores the motivation for living with joyful expectancy. Would you do anything differently if you received a heart transplant? We probably all would. This message explores the motives for living with expectancy based on the fact that through faith in Jesus we really do have a new heart because we're new creations in Christ.

Joyfully Rescued

God's rescue plan gives believers reason for a living hope. That's how Peter describes what the gospel means to Christians. He addresses people who have moved away from their familiar surroundings and who are feeling pressure from persecution because of their faith. Peter's words are encouraging to us today since we face many of the same trials his audience faced.

A lot of us can identify with Simon Peter. He often speaks first and then thinks later. He boldly proclaims loyalty but then caves because the heat gets turned way up. And yet with all Peter's faults, we love him. Maybe it's because we see his character arc played out over time. This series will help us understand how Jesus' view of us changes our view of ourselves. Chances are good that you'll see some pretty radical transformation in your own life as you look at Simon Peter's life.

The first 2 chapters of 2 Peter have been building up to this final chapter.  Peter wants to remind us of something important, with a call for us to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.  Having the full and true knowledge of Christ will give us everything we need for life and godliness, to be certain of our calling and His choosing us, and so that we will never stumble.  Even though there will be those that would seek to lead us astray, we are called to remember His promises and rely on the Word of God.  Of prime importance, Peter wants to reminds us of the promise and hope of the second coming (Greek, parousia) of Jesus Christ.  He wants to reminds us that we are in the last days, why Christ has not yet come again and why having the true knowledge of this affects our posture as to how we live our life now.
