  • Getting out

Today, we are talking about how to change or get out of challenging situation or circumstance that is uncomfortable or not serving the version of you that you're in. The first step is to acknowledge and accept the situation for what it is. Let go of the idea that there is potential or it will get better. Look for models or other ways of doing the thing. Finally, create just one step to start building a different circumstance. Any one of us can change but it takes consistent effort. #gettingout #makingchange #lookforward #acceptance

  • Tap or drain

Today, we are talking about if something is a tap or a drain. If something is a tap, it moves us forward or gives us energy. Drains limit our motivation or make us feel lower or empty. We can remind ourselves of what motivates us or what keeps us struck in unhelpful patterns. #tapordrain #motivation #movingforward #skillbuilding

  • Modeling behavior

Today, we are talking about how we show the people around us how to behave. We get an opportunity to show up and be the leaders or communicators we want in our lives. We get to model the behavior we learn and share it with people we care about. The key is to choose wisely and work to normalize healthy coping. #modelingbehavior #parenting #rolemodel #leadership

  • Comfortable complacency

Today, we are talking about comfortable complacency and the idea that we often don't make change until we are in discomfort. Often, we can talk ourselves out of doing the hard work it takes to see results. Nothing changes, if nothing changes. Find an accountability buddy or someone who can call your attention to living your values and goals consistently. #changehappens #complacency #mentalhealth #accountability

  • Wisdom

Today, we are talking about sharing and listening to the wisdom around us. Especially now, it is important to pay attention to the experience of the people around us. Recognize that there have been other times in our history we can reflect on and learn from. It is helpful to take some time to check in on those we care about, coming together rather than giving in to the fear and division. #wisdom #checkin #repeatinghistory #community

  • Distress tolerance

Today, we are talking about how to manage ourselves in really challenging times. Right now we are all getting through day by day and feeling pretty overwhelmed. Either with the state of the world or dealing with hard situations we can simply leave. I have described some ways using Dialectical Behavior Therapy or DBT practices to give you some tools to work through and tolerate the distress we are all feeling. #mentalhealth #DBT #distresstolerance #dumpsterffire #gettingthrough

  • Directed attention

Today, we are talking about increasing our directed attention, awareness, to create change. Often we are operating on auto pilot or simply functioning in survival. It isn't until we are really uncomfortable do we then feel like we need to make changes. If we can increase our awareness to the discomfort, we can address the issues likely holding us back from what we want. #awareness #createchange #dothehardthing #growth #mentalhealth

  • Having your back

Today, we are talking about the idea of building confidence and success when you feel like someone has your back. It is helpful to feeling secure doing new or hard things when you have the support of at least one other person who can encourage you and catch you if you stumble. #whohasyourback #askforhelp #doinghardthings #parenting

  • Rejection sensitivity dysphoria

Today, we are talking about RSD or rejection sensitivity dysphoria. In the podcast I said disorder but it is dysphoria or feeling sensitive to being rejected. It is generally associated with neurodivergent populations like spectrum disorder or ADHD. People will tend to be sensitive to being rejected or othered when they behave differently than their peers or people around them. This can create behavior like conflict avoidance or people pleasing which relates to codependency. It can also lead to people withdrawing from others or anxiety about how they are perceived. #RSD #attachmentstyle #anxiety #mentalhealth #authenticself #secureattachment
