Lydia's Books of Terror: Horror Booktube Weekly

Summertime is full of beach reads for some, and often when new books get bought. There is really nothing in the cards for me until October, so I think I'll sit this one out and read what is on my shelf. After this little haul of used books that is! In October I do plan on buying quite a few books, so it is a good time to take a break from it all. Also, why I have not been to the theatre lately; and why we've also not watched a few movies of interest. I finally got to see Faces of Death, but there are a few glaring omissions of late...✮ Mergers and Acquisitions ✮Ouija Slumber Party by Edward LeeThe October FIlm Haunt by Michael WehuntRevelations edited by Douglas E. Ever wonder about the habits of booktubers? As in, what are the grooves that we fall in to when making videos, and if there is a zone to be in when 'booktubing' where is that zone, and what does it look like? It is always fun for me to see how others do this thing, and if you are just starting booktube yourself, these tag videos are sometimes helpful! It is like a little trade magazine interview, and here are the questions.1. Do you film in batches, or one video at a time?2. Are you scripted, outlined, or chaotic when filming?3. How long do you actually spend filming?4. What is your editing pet peeve?5. Do you have the thumbnail struggle, or title struggle?6. Do statistics influence your reading choices?7. What is your most re-filmed video ever?8. Describe your comfort video format? Welcome to a little series where I get into each issue of the unparallelled zine, Splatterpunk. Started in 2012 by editor Jack Bantry, it is going strong today and we eagerly anticipate the next issue. While I don’t go in-depth, nor do I show page by page to preserve the copyright of the owners and creators, I wanted to highlight this gem of a subgenre some of us call home. Like a reading vlog without all that pesky reading, I’ll conduct a post mortem on each issue in turn.Buy Splatterpunk at: https://splatterpunkzine.bigcartel.com/More coverage at: https://www.dlsreviews.com/splatterpu...Splatterpunk - Issue 1 - April 2012 New fiction by Jeff Strand, Tim Curran, Jack Bantry, W.D. Today I will be talking about All The Fiends Of Hell by Adam L. G. Nevill. This was a recommendation and I really should have read it last year when Mers and Olly were talking about it! This was really great and for a fairly thick book at about 400 pages, I read it in three sittings. I have wanted to read more from Adam Nevill as I loved The Ritual, which I read after seeing the film but was well aware of the writer through hearing him talk on This Is Horror podcast. His being a self-published or hybrid author fascinates me, as does his very down-to-earth storytelling methods. We also have a proclivity for similar design. When Brittany recommended the book a few months ago I bought it right away; his new book was coming soon so I wanted to get into a Nevill headspace. Thank you Brittany!

For May there is a really good mix of horror for all kinds of tastes. From western slasher to witchy haunts, we even have some fairytales and sci-fi poking up above the blackened earth. Forgive the mixed metaphors, as it is springtime where anything can happen. As usual, there are too many to choose from but unlike last month, I've no advanced reading copies to remark on.
