Summer is fast approaching and in some places, like Texas, it seems to have already arrived. Longer days, endless sunshine, and cold beverages are sure to be in your future but what does that mean for those living with Lymphedema?

Today’s episode covers all things summer with my new friend, Cameron Ayala. He is the newest LE&RN Ambassador who knows a thing or two about living with Lymphedema. As a Texas native he shares his personal tips for beating he summer heat.

Earlier this month advocates from all over the United States arrived in Washington DC with a story and purpose…Pass the Lymphedema Treatment Act! I was honored for the third year to advocate for this bill I believe in along side patients, product reps and other therapists.

If you are not familiar with the purpose of the Lymphedema Treatment Act please listen to Episode 9 featuring Judy Woodard. She is a board member of the Lymphedema Advocacy Group and leader of the Texas team.

In this episode I lay out three action steps you can take to support the LTA.

1: Call or email your state senators and representatives.

2: Join your state team.

3: Share your Lymphedema story.

You can complete all three of these action steps by visiting the LTA website. On the website you will find a wealth of knowledge pertaining to the bill and how to become and advocate.

This episode provides an update on the current status of the Lymphedema Treatment Act as well as three action steps you can take to support our bill!

Tammie Luthringer is a Physical Therapist who specializes in Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, also known as Women’s Health. Pelvic floor therapy applies to men as well as women, and often has an impact on ones “sex life.” Having worked with Tammie in the past I knew she would be a great source of information on this topic.

Many women dream of becoming a mother. As I write this post it is Mother’s Day 2019 and I am reminded of this desire that I carry myself. But for many it isn’t as easy an just deciding “Okay, it’s time to make a baby.” Women who have lymphedema face a unique set of difficulties when considering or navigating pregnancy.

My guest Sarah Buller, developed lymphedema during her first pregnancy in 2013. Since she has become an advocate for lymphedema care and is an inspirational member of the lymphedema community. In addition to discussing pregnancy Sarah and I discussed intimacy struggles related to lymphedema as a preview to the next episode on Sex and Intimacy related to Lymphedema.
