  • Episode 12: Hulk Hogan (R.I.P.)

A funny thing about Shure podcast microphones is that if you are talking into one, you automatically become an expert on whatever thing you happen to be talking about. This is important because it helps explain why we decided to talk very confidently about pro wrestling in this episode even though none of us are big pro wrestling fans. We are, however, generally familiar with Hulk Hogan, because he was one of the most famous Americans of the past 50 years, and he also got Peter Thiel’s help to sue Yannick’s old workplace so hard that it had to shut down. We talk about Hulk Hogan as a media figure, perpetual frontman for the machinations of extremely powerful men, and try to determine, once and for all, if pro wrestling is fake.

Macho Pod is hosted by Yannick LeJacq, drew millard, and Yuri Rybak. Yuri also produced the episode, composed our theme music, and put together the sound collage you hear at the start. • Episode 11: Metallica

Long story short: Drew reviewed a 300-song Metallica reissue for Pitchfork and got so into it that he watched Some Kind of Monster then made Yannick and Yuri watch it too, and then demanded we all do an episode about Metallica. Turns Yuri thinks Lars Ulrich is the worst drummer in the world, and Yannick thinks Metallica is for dads. Neither of these opinions are necessarily untrue, but this did lead Drew to do a lot of defending of Metallica throughout this episode. Anyway, this episode is about what it is like when you co-own a small business that makes millions of dollars a year but hate the people you co-own that small business with, especially if that small business is Metallica.

  • Episode 10: Liver King

I honestly don’t know how we made it to Episode 10 before we thought to do something on the Liver King. We talk about what makes a hypermasculine internet psycho benign or problematic, debate whether the Liver King is allowed to justify secretly using $11,000 worth of steroids per month for self-care reasons, and debate whether the “Liver King” character was steroid-free even if Brian Johnson was juicing like hell. Ultimately, this is an episode about what it means to be a man, and if you can still be one if you regularly wear a shirt.

  • Episode 9: Elon

Maybe it’s just me but it really cheeses me out when people pronounce the word “ketamine” without the E on the end like it rhymes with the word “vitamin.” No it doesn’t. It’s drugs. Today’s episode is about the number one guy in the world who definitely pronounces it “ketamin,” his name is Elon Musk and he is your best friend.

  • Episode 8: Dads (feat. Elizabeth Thompson)

It’s Father’s Day so we did an episode about dads. What are they? How does one become a dad? And who’s the worst dad between Elon’s dad, Anthony Kiedis’s dad, and Elvis? To help us answer these questions and more, we got our friend Elizabeth Thompson of the fantastic Tell Me About Your Father to come on the pod and educate us on all dad-related issues.

Macho Pod is hosted by Yannick LeJacq, drew millard, and Yuri Rybak. Yuri also produced the episode and composed our theme music. ALSO LISTEN TO TELL ME ABOUT YOUR FATHER VIA THE APPLE ITUNES PODCAST APP THEY JUST DID A MULTI PART SERIES ON ELON IT’S GOOD AF.

  • Episode 7: Kanye

Hey this is Drew, I’m on vacation this week but it’s my job to upload the episodes so I’m gonna keep this short. This episode is about Ye fka Kanye and we talk about the super creepy interview he did with Akademiks/millennial nostalgia/mental illness/Dave Blunts/Jim Jones not being able to make a PDF/how the only guy who can bring Ye back from the brink is Dave Portnoy. That’s not all we talk about in the episode, just listen to it I’m gonna go to the beach.

  • Episode 6: No Jumper

Confession: I (Drew) was a very early No Jumper guest, yes we talk about it on this episode of Macho Pod no you’re not allowed to look up my No Jumper episode. Whatever, this episode is about No Jumper and its host Adam22, who is also a BMX guy/sketchy guy/porno guy/scion of New Hampshire Democratic royalty/wannabe interviewer of Chuck Schumer etc. We marvel at how Adam22 is the only person in media who was able to successfully monetize a podcast (Plug Talk, co-hosted with his wife Lena the Plug) through making pornos. We reflect on how No Jumper was a beneficiary of both an eroding trad hip-hop media landscape and a pandemic-era content drought and, as a result, is now apparently broke. We also wonder about why Adam22 is the only bro podcaster in the universe who really wanted to help mainstream Democrats in 2024 yet they refused to touch him with a ten-foot pole. Perhaps we will never know.

  • Episode 5: Adolescence

Today’s episode is about Adolescence, the only British TV show that American people have ever watched. Okay that’s clearly not true but whatever, it’s a popular TV show that people had Big Conversations about. But also, doesn’t is depict a society in which every institution (two-parent households, schools, “our lads,” etc.) is decaying before our very eyes, and the only thing holding it together is one miraculously competent and un-corrupt police department? Is the one-take-per-episode thing a gimmick? Does Adolescence kinda suck? And why are British shows always being like, “Wot if the comput-ah was ya mum?” This Very Special Episode of Macho Pod will attempt to answer these questions and more.

  • Episode 4: Gamergate, Part 2

Note: This episode starts with a six-minute piece of audio art from Yuri. It’s sick.

Last time, our intrepid heroes looked back at Gamergate and how it sucked for a lot of people including Yannick who at the time worked at a website that Gamergaters were really mad at. We had so much fun that we decided to do another episode on how Gamergate came back.

  • Episode 3: Gamergate, Part 1

On today’s episode of Macho Pod, we examine one of the worst things that has ever happened on or to the internet. Big shouts out to Yannick, who was a firsthand witness to the ravages of Gamergate and did the lion’s share of the prep work for this episode.

Macho Pod is hosted by Yannick LeJacq, Drew Millard, and Yuri Rybak. Yuri also produced the episode and composed our theme music.
