  • maDCap with Robert Delong & Dolly Wells
Sweetgreen is one of the best places on the east coast to get a salad, and what else would a company known for organic kale do to expand their footprint but start a music festival? The annual Sweetlife festival draws thousands of fans to Merriweather Post Pavilion, and that's where maDCap caught up with musician Robert DeLong last year. DeLong is a man of many talents: drummer, singer, songwriter, producer and one hell of a performer. He commands the stage from his drum set, often employing computer game controllers in his live sets. He tells us about his upbringing, musical process, and yes, the face paint. Then, Dolly Wells is co-creator, executive producer and writer of Doll and Em on HBO. It's a six-episode series about London woman (Doll) who breaks things off with her boyfriend and moves to work as an assistant for her movie star best friend (Em.) Hilarity ensues. Em is played by Emily Mortimer and she and Dolly Wells are real-life best friends.

  • maDCap 420 with Justin Roiland of 'Rick and Morty' & Rabbi Jeff Kahn, DC medical marijuana provider
Today on maDCap, we mark the auspicious date of 4/20 with a show for all ents (don't know what an ent is? Bing that shit.) First, Cartoon Network's Adult Swim is ground zero for baked TV viewing, and we'll speak with the force behind one of their latest hit shows. Justin Roiland is the co-creator, writer and voice actor of 'Rick and Morty' on Adult Swim. David learned about the struggles of the creative process and the show's wild ass content from the California native. Then, while Cali has been on the forefront of prescribing medicinal marijuana for nearly two decades, but as of 2009, Washington DC has been in the game too. We'll close today's show with the proprietor of the only licensed medicinal marijuana dispensary north of Downtown, Takoma Wellness Center. It may sound like a yoga studio, but the only tree pose you'll find there is of the sticky-icky variety. And who runs this haven of herbal remedies? None other than Rabbi...yes Rabbi Jeffrey Kahn, whom we spoke to on the week of passover. He tells us about his personal journey, religious philosophy, and give a history of cannabis in America.
Happy 4/20 friends, remember to puff-puff-pass, and stay safe out there.
    Love,
    maDCap

  • maDCap with Dillon Francis & MoogFest preview with Emmy Parker
Dillon Francis is a DJ and producer just right for his time & place. In addition to his beloved original productions, remixes and collaborations, his omnipresent social media content allows his fans unique access into his personality...or should I say personalities. On any given night with Dillon Francis, you may catch a glimpse of DJ Hanzel, DJ Rich as Fuck or the male supermodel Ollie Springer. maDCap caught up with Dillon Francis on two continents, first with Molly Martinez in Paris, then with Dan Bloom, David Ross and Carolyn Brown behind Washington DC's 9:30 Club.
Then, during the last weekend in April, Dillon Francis will take part in an extraordinary event in Asheville, North Carolina, "MoogFest," named for Bob Moog, pioneering inventor of the Moog synthesizer. MoogFest is a five-day music and technology summit which brings technologists, musicians, and creatives of all types together in the Blueridge Mountains. Today we'll hear music from some of the participants including Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder and Q-Tip as we preview the festival with Emmy Parker, brand manager for Moog Music.
MoogFest takes place April 23-27, 2014. For more information, visit http://MoogFest.com

  • maDCap with Tom Berninger, director of 'Mistaken for Strangers'
Today, we debut the maDCap tour company. Please sign in with our meeter/greeter Jill Holbrook, and find your seat in the CRV (Certified Recording Vehicle) for a trip into the heart of the nation's capital. Your guides for today are David Ross & Dan Bloom, and our featured guest is Tom Berninger, director of the film "Mistaken for Strangers." His story goes like this...
Two creative brothers, the elder of whom is wildly successful, looms large over the younger's creative ambitions. Matt Berninger is lead singer of 'The National,' they have six acclaimed albums and sold-out world tours. His younger brother Tom is trained as a filmmaker and while looking for his next step in life, jumped at the chance to serve as assistant tour manager on one of Matt's tours. Although the gig didn't exactly go as planned, Tom made the fortuitous decision to bring his camera along for the ride. After his unceremonious exit from his job on tour, Tom retreated first to the family home in Cincinnati, and then decamped at Matt's Brooklyn abode to craft the film 'Mistaken for Strangers.'
Matt's wife Carin Besser deserves no small part of the credit. She's a former fiction editor at The New Yorker and lent an expert hand to Tom in shaping his melange of footage into a cohesive and compelling narrative. 'Mistaken for Strangers' is worth your time and it's out in theaters, On Demand and iTunes today.
