Today I'm talking to Lindsay Kirkendal, who is an artist. She worked in the music business in Nashville and became a bit frustrated by the industry and started paving her own way as a music business consultant and artist coach, essentially helping artists own their power and stop asking for permission. As such, she writes about strong people in fiction and in women’s history… and talks about the darker side of humanity in her writing on true crime. Her work often intersects with making disability visible, as a person with rare disease as well as traumatic brain injury. She’s a podcaster at The Courage Checklist and Writer’s Radio podcasts. A co-owner of Groundwaters Publishing, she founded TEDxVenetaWomen & attended the Iowa Summer Writing Program. Chambers lives in the rainy Pacific Northwest. Find her on Instagram HERE

Chelsey Coy -
Today I’m talking with singer songwriter, Chelsey Coy. She is making serious waves with all that she does. Her band Single Girl Married Girl released a beautiful Americana album titled Three Generations of Leaving last year to rave reviews. Her songs have been heard in shows on MTV and CBS. She co-founded the Music Licensing Company Two oh Six Music which has garnered multiple placements for their clients including spots for brands like Adidas and Billie, and on shows like All American, and Bat Woman. In her free time she loves scouring thrift shops around LA for finds from the 60s and 70s and I personally love seeing them on her Instagram! @singlegirlmarriedgirl.band

Today I’m talking with Claire Kelly who is a singer songwriter and self proclaimed optimist, originally from Milwaukee but now living in Nashville, TN since 2017. “Kelly’s songs paint vivid pictures; the songs bring to mind folks like Guy Clark for their sentimentality and John Prine for their wry humor.” - Glide Magazine She’s toured internationally, had songs placed on primetime television shows on ABC, HBO Max and even the Miss Universe pageant as well as the Netflix series Love is Blind. Claire has won multiple songwriting contests, most recently through world famous The Bluebird Cafe. From concerts in living rooms to critically acclaimed festivals and everything in between, she’s opened up for acts like Colbie Caillat, Anderson East. She’s performed at festivals across the states such as Milwaukee’s Summerfest, Kerrville Folk Festival, The Muscle Shoals Songwriters Festival, The Lights Fest, Steel Bridge Song Fest and Mile of Music and I’m super excited about her newest album Hopeful Romantic which just released on May 2nd! Today I’m talking with Kate Coleman of the band Run Katie Run. Kate may be front and center but the band’s new album, Cowboy Boots with Fishnet Tights, which just came out on April 28, deeply reflects the community surrounding her. The band is made up of five friends who first met at an open mic night in Georgia. They arranged and produced the album together, and Kate says she could see their trust in each other — and their friendships — grow as the months went by. They had two residencies at Dollywood and American Songwriter called their music “…a unique blend of rock sensibilities and folky textures... condensed into a singular force of energy and power. Today I’m talking with Rachel McIntyre Smith, an Americana / Country artist from Knoxville, TN who has a real gift for storytelling. The Boot called her “…part Musgraves, part Phoebe Bridgers, all sincere storytelling and heartstring-pulling,” and Holler called her “…Loretta Lynn for the TikTok generation…” After her first single and title track, “Glory Daze,” went viral on TikTok, Smith saw her audience double in a matter of days and fun fact, due to the quirky subject matter of one of the tracks, “The Kitten Song,” she became a regular performer at cat cafes. At the start of the pandemic, Rachel moved back in with her parents while at the same time watching all the people she had grown up with get married and have kids… but that led to the writing of her EP Glory Daze, which came out last fall and just last week she released a reimagined acoustic version of the EP. Keep up to date with Rachel here https://www.rachelmcintyresmith.com

Nashville-based Americana/roots rock singer-songwriter Scott Clay released his album, Let It All Lay Bare, independently on September 23, 2022. Recorded partially at Hall of Justice in Seattle and partially remotely, the album was produced/engineered by Mike Davis (Modest Mouse, The Head and the Heart), mixed by Steven Aguilar, and mastered by Rachel Field. Let It All Lay Bare showcases themes important to Clay: relationships, stunning displays of natural beauty, and even famous historical events. The collection of songs that comprise his fifth full-length gives listeners a multi-faceted picture of a storyteller in his element. During the pandemic, he visited a number of national parks, bringing his video camera with him to document the experiences. As mentioned previously, Clay filmed music videos for several of his new songs in national parks, including locations in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Utah, and Washington, with cinematographers Spencer Johnson and Britt Warner. “Film production allowed me to express my creativity in a different way while everything was closed down in the pandemic,” Clay reflects. “Instead of being isolated, I used the time to explore both nature and my creative outlets.”
