Despite being a "cradle Catholic" (someone born into the Roman Catholic Church and honoring her religion, she describes herself as "the most liberal Catholic you'll ever meet" and relies on science in her advocacy work. Cathy embodies the notion that faith and reproductive justice can coexist.

Dr. Rahul Sharma is a consultant, psychologist, musician, and keynote speaker with expertise in diversity, social justice, multiculturalism, emotional intelligence, leadership, individual/community health, violence against women prevention, music, and wellness. He is a former Associate Professor at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, where he Chaired its Diversity Concentration for 13 years. Prior to that, he was Executive Director of University of Chicago's Resources for Sexual Violence Prevention, initially reporting to then Associate Dean Michelle Obama.
He is founder of Strategic Inclusion Consulting, an agency that provides DEI, Leadership, and Emotional Intelligence consulting, coaching, and training. Dr. Sharma is also founder and bassist/sitarist for the intercultural award-winning music group Funkadesi, which includes diverse members (Indian-American, African-American, Jamaican, Latino, and European American) who are musicians, activists, educators, and healers.

In this episode, Raquel and Jennifer talk to social justice advocate, scholar, and author of Chingona: Owning Your Inner Badass for Healing and Justice, Alma Zaragoza-Petty.
Born in Los Angeles but raised in Acapulco, Mexico, for much of her childhood, she is the daughter of immigrant parents and a first-generation high school and college graduate. Zaragoza-Petty has a master's degree in counseling and a doctorate in education and has worked in higher education for more than twenty years. She has served as an academic advisor, as a professor, and in research and evaluation for a nonprofit organization.
Rooted deep in her faith, Zaragoza-Petty's new book, Chingona: Owning Your Inner Badass for Healing and Justice, shares about the chingona spirit she began to claim within herself and leads us toward the courage required to speak up and speak out against oppressive systems.

Stephanie’s extended family’s roots in Greece, Peru, and Asia have shaped her journey as an author, lawyer, and performing artist. The journey began in Chicago, where she was born. Stephanie is now author of the novella My Xanthi (Los Galesburg Press), essayist in the award-winning anthology Breaking Bread: Essays from New England on Food, Hunger, and Family (Beacon Press), finalist in Narrative Magazine's Fall 2022 Story Contest (publication forthcoming in 2023), and published finalist in Mississippi Review’s 2019 Prize in Fiction. Twice nominated for the Pushcart Prize, her work has appeared in numerous print and online venues including McSweeney’s, The New Guard, New Millennium Writings, Brilliant Flash Fiction, and various media. In 2021, she was awarded the Patrice Krant fellowship in residence at Storyknife’s inaugural retreat for women writers in Alaska.
