Listen in as Raquel and Jennifer join Kristin Song in conversation about gun safety, responsible and sensible gun storage, and their importance in ending gun violence. Kristin Song became a gun safety activist after her 15-year-old son Ethan was killed with an unsecured gun in his best friend’s house. After learning that the negligent gun owner would not be charged, but instead, his 14-year-old son would be charged with manslaughter, Kristin was determined to strengthen Connecticut's safe storage law and put the responsibility on gun owners instead of children.
Kristin’s unifying approach in Connecticut was instrumental in bringing together both major political parties to put aside their affiliation, leave their egos at the door and keep kids safe. Ethan’s Law requires all guns to be secured if a child or unauthorized person can gain access, passed with overwhelming bipartisan support.
Kristin expanded her mission to keep kids safe to the federal level. Ethan’s Law was introduced in the Senate and House in 2021. Kristin testified in front of the Senate judiciary committee in May of 2021, and as of today, Ethan’s Law has hundreds of cosponsors and organizations that have stepped up to endorse Ethan’s Law.
