    Cheap Family Meals FM Podcast
    Welcome to our cheap family meals Podcast. In January we showed you how to make a cheap KFC at home, last month we showed you how to bulk cook meals using clearance vegetables and this month we want to show you how to grow your own fruit and vegetables.
    Something that we started the process of back in October. What we wanted to do was give ourselves a couple of months to allow things to grow and then feature it as part of our Podcast. Well today as I record our Podcast, take videos and photos it is the 20th of February. Exactly 4 months to the day, that we started planting and turned into the accidental gardeners.
    Accidental Gardeners You Say?
    Yes, I am no gardener. In fact, I am so rubbish at it that I would probably manage to kill a tree, if I was left in charge of it. Which is crazy considering how many amazing gardeners I have in my family.
    My Grandad Tom was obsessed with plants and had a back yard full of beautiful plants, they even looked good after Kyle (who was a toddler at the time and was named after him) hit them with his football.
    My Grandad George (who my youngest son Jorge is named after) was not just a plant grower but had a massive allotment too. It was full of fruits and vegetables and I loved to eat his carrots raw, just after they had been picked out of the ground and rinsed, or binge on his gooseberries.
    My Mum also grew a lot of beautiful flowery plants. She had a small patio and made good use out of them and ...

    Cheap Family Meals FM Podcast
    Welcome to our cheap family meals Podcast. Last month we showed you the art of making a massive KFC feast for you and your family using your Air Fryer and reduced price chicken. But this month we wanted to share with you in more depth how we do our reduced price food.
    Reduced price food has different names around the world. In the US they call it clearance, in the UK it is yellow stickers and here in Portugal it is pink stickers.

    I go absolutely crazy for them and have turned into a pink sticker hoarder.
    I decided to see how bad my problem really is and to bring everything out of my freezer that is a pink sticker deal and see EXACTLY how much of it I had. Dominic took the pictures as I wrote everything down.

    It turns out that my pink sticker addiction has resulted in:

    * 5 Large Christmas Turkeys
    * Pack of 2 Pork Chops*5
    * Packs Of Sausages*4
    * Tray Of Chicken Wings*3
    * ½ Whole Duck
    * 3 Rump Beef Steak Pack*2
    * Beef Strips Steak
    * Tray Of Pork Bifanas*2
    * Packs of 2 Chicken Breasts*8
    * Single Chicken Breast

    As well as this I also got pink sticker deals for the following items that thanks to my supermarket loyalty card were free:

    * 1 Spatchcock Chicken
    * Chicken Strips Pack
    * Packs Of 2 Chicken Breasts*4
    * Packs Of 2 Chicken Legs*4
    * Packs Of 4 Chicken Thighs*3

    But they are a true life saver. As a family of 5 we want cheap family meals. We don’t want to spend a small fortune on our meat and we want to be able to have a good supply of it in the freezer, that way when we do have to cut grocery shopping costs then we can.
    I also have a really good batch of leftover meals that have been built up over time too. Each time I cook, if there is enough to make up a portion for another day, then I will.

    Here is the grand list of leftover food from my freezer:

    * Thanksgiving Soup
    * Carrot & Coriander Soup*2
    * Homemade Tomato Sauce
    * Pork Stock*2
    * Sausage Stock
    * Homemade Jerk Sauce
    * Cheese Sauce*2
    * Bean Dip
    * Homemade Ginger & Garlic Coconut Sauce

  • Half & Half Pumpkin Pizza Dough Recipe

    Welcome to my half and half pumpkin pizza dough recipe. A delicious quick and simple pumpkin pizza dough recipe. Using half traditional pizza dough and half pumpkin pizza crust. The perfect in between if you want a squash pizza crust with some real pizza dough.
    I love my pizza dough made from vegetables. It is the best. It’s a great way to reduce your carbs and then you feel less and less guilty about what you have just eaten. Then you can load it up with your usual favourite pizza toppings knowing that you can have that bit of cheese, knowing that your pizza dough is lower in calories than usual.
    We have had that opinion so much, that so far, we have made the following veggie pizza doughs:

    * Broccoli Pizza Dough
    * Butternut Squash Pizza Crust
    * Cauliflower Pizza Crust

    But it got me thinking that whenever I do make a pizza dough from my favourite vegetables it is always rather costly. It’s the one time when people say that eating healthy is expensive that I agree with them.
    I mean when you do a cauliflower pizza for example you will use a whole cauliflower. Then you will squeeze out all the excess water out of it after you have cooked it. This is a lot of water to go and then when you are done you will end up with a cauliflower dough ball of cauliflower, egg and cheese.
    It will be a small cauliflower dough ball and then when you are done you are left with this small bit, that if you are lucky will cover a 8 inch pizza tray.
    And you are like is that it????
    You kind of wonder if there is a magician hiding somewhere with the rest of your cauliflower. I mean that can’t be it can it?
    But it is.
    But you want to reduce your carbs, you want to save money and you still want pizza so what do you do…….
    Well instead you make yourself a half and half pumpkin pizza dough.
    That way you have reduced your regular pizza dough amount by half, you still have a healthy portion of vegetables in your pizza crust and it will taste truly amazing.
    Trust me when I say, this is the perfect in between for you.
    A pizza dough that still has olive oil, flour, vegetables, egg and cheese.
    It also allows you to have your flour, but you can at least say that you are eating it in moderation and getting healthier. Just perfect for if you are on a diet!
    It’s a winner in the Milner house and you can use this pumpkin pizza dough for an entire range of pizza toppings. You can also swap the pumpkin pizza dough for butternut squash, broccoli, cauliflower or whatever vegetable that you have in.

  • Photosensitive Epilepsy & You Tube Food Videos

    Welcome to Photosensitive Epilepsy and You Tube Food Videos. I wanted to talk to you today about my battle with Photosensitive Epilepsy and what it is really like for people like me when it comes to food videos.
    I know. I know. We all hate it when a food blogger goes off topic and talks about something really random on their food blog and then calls it LIFESTYLE content. As I note more and more people are doing that.
    I am normally the one doing the moaning and shouting that they should JUST post food content!!!
    I mean I don’t want to know that somebody’s kids have started school and then have 50 pictures of them in their school uniform. Or when they have had a bereavement and there are 100 pictures in one post of their deceased Grandma.
    Then they follow it up with another 10 posts over the month with more granny posts. I mean come on everyone – I am here for recipes and even though it is a sad and my grandmas have died too, it’s not something that you want to see in the masses.
    Plus its great for the odd personal story on Instagram, but if you are there visiting a food blog. Then HELLO bloggers you want to see actual FOOD.
    That is why there has never been a post dedicated to the birth of my latest child (he is a year old this month BTW) or how it went introducing my daughter to solids or her nappy training moments.
    Of course I mention them a LOT. I mean how do you not as a mum that is super proud of her 3 amazing kids? But it will be within the context of the recipe or the cooking tips and not as them being the main topic of conversation.
    I have shared with you my daughters favourite yoghurt, making custard creams with my little girl, Easter baking, Christmas baking and so forth. But at the end of the day, on all accounts there would be a recipe featured on the blog and it would just be a theme in the cooking.
    But now I wanted to talk to you about Photosensitive Epilepsy as I have it and it’s such an important topic when it comes to food blogging and the experience of your readers.
    What Is Epilepsy?

    Some people are confused about exactly what Epilepsy is so here is the facts:

    * Epilepsy is a group of neurological disorders characterized by different types of seizures
    * Some types of epilepsy are more serious than others
    * Epilepsy can vary from staring into space to severe shaking fits
    * Many physical injuries can occur from epilepsy
    * There is often stigma attached to epilepsy
    * Brain injuries are often linked to epilepsy
    * Over 39 million people suffer from epilepsy
    * Epilepsy means “seizure” in Greek

    My Epilepsy Back Story
    When my mum gave birth to me in the January of 1982 I had a stroke while she gave birth. It was a birth trauma that left me with slight brain damage. This wasn’t made aware of for many years as when my mum questioned my appearance with the midwives she was put down as being a crazy new mum that was having an overprotective, hormone moment.
    Fast forward to my school years….The teachers quizzed my parents that I might be deaf (or hard of hearing) because I didn’t always respond as quick as what the other kids would. It was like I didn’t hear them or something.
    [clickToTweet tweet=”#Photosensitive #Epilepsy and #YouTube #FoodVideos via recipe_this” quote=”#Photosensitive #Epilepsy and #YouTube #FoodVideos via recipe_this”]
    Several tests later it was revealed that I had epilepsy.
    It was called “Petit Mal Epilepsy” and is also known as Absent Seizures.

  • Strawberry And Cream Crepes

    Welcome to my Strawberry And Cream Crepes Recipe. Delicious crepes filled with fresh strawberries, sweet soft cheese and completely healthy too. It is Slimming World friendly and a gluten free winner. A family go to recipe our household and great fun to make with your kids too.
    I can’t actually take the credit for these delicious strawberry and cream crepes as I didn’t make them. I watched them been made and then I ate them! Which makes a change because 95% of the recipes on RecipeThis are personally recipe tested from me. But for today I got to have a day off.
    Instead it was Kyle making these strawberry and cream crepes. My amazing 15 year old that loves to cook as much as his parents do, was showing me just how talented he is and being part of the latest recipe on the blog. Fresh healthy crepes cooked in the frying pan and then the filling made super fast in the blender.
    At the time it was a Sunday morning and it was super hot and it was just one of those nice and tasty breakfasts that we should all have more often.
    I sat on the chair in the kitchen as he crafted together some amazing crepes that were filled with soft cheese (Philly of course) along with honey and stevia, then loads of fresh strawberries. Because fresh strawberries rule the world right???
    Then a sweet eggy mixture to make the crepes.
    A very simple breakfast and a perfect start to the day. It is also rather quick to make too so perfect for if you’re in a rush. Though I may add it is hard to stop with just one of these strawberry and cream crepes as I want to eat loads and loads of them.
    But first I am sure you’re probably wondering “why strawberries again”? After all they were only featured on the blog yesterday. Well we just LOVE fresh strawberries and right now in Portugal they are in season. They are everywhere and you can’t escape the beautiful red berry.
    It is full of flavour and perfect for all kinds of summer treats.
    Plus don’t forget its nutritional benefits:

    I even got a shedload of strawberries from the market especially so that I could blog about them over 6 different strawberry recipes. We had an American cocktail on the 4th of July, Slimming World Eton Mess yesterday and then today these amazing strawberry crepes.
    We got nearly 7 kilos of strawberries and in Portuguese culture got them for a real bargain. They cost just 3€ a kilo making them 15€. Plus we were charged for just 5 kilos and a couple of elderly ladies packed them all up for us and chose the nicest ones, as Sofia happily ate all the free cherries that they gave her. I don’t think I have ever seen her face so red!

    We then brought them home and thought we had way too many of them, but then with how much Sofia loves her fresh strawberries we will be lucky if there is enough to make the recipes with!
    In fact after we bought them she made a detour to the park to tuck into some before we went home:

    We actually got our fresh strawberries yesterday and decided that the perfect use of them would be some fresh strawberry crepes for a summer Sunday breakfast. So out they came on a very warm late June morning.
    We have put Kyle in charge of them as he loves this kind of thing and he often has them turning out just so perfect. So if you want to teach your kids to cook then start out with something simple like this!
    Crepes Vs Pancakes?

    One question often asked is what is the difference between crepes and pancakes? Well the main difference is that crepes are made with plain flour compared to pancakes with self raising flour.
    Though some recipes use self raising flour for both and then when they make crepes they just make them with much less batter.
