Main Event Marks

Let's journey 30 years into the past when a man was electrified on live pay-per-view...and lived to tell about it. Even though it was the opening match on the show, it was the most memorable. Maybe not for the right reasons... The WCW World Title was defended in the main event by Lex Luger against Ron Simmons. On top of that, Oz and Van Hammer are here (LMAO!), Johnny B. Badd took on Jimmy Garvin, The Enforcers defend the WCW World Tag Team Titles against The Patriots, Bobby Eaton and Terry Taylor tear it up, PN freakin' News teams with Big Josh to take on The Creatures (whoever the hell they were), and we find out who the WCW Phantom is. Trust me...the Marks (Troy & Greg) make this one fun!

No Mercy was usually hit-and-miss with quality, but this one gets overlooked for how good it really was. 15 years ago, King Booker was the reigning World Champion on SmackDown!, and General Manager Theodore Long put him against 3 competitors: Batista, Bobby Lashley, and one of his own lackeys, Finlay, in a Triple Threat match. Also on this card is Undertaker vs Mr. Kennedy, London & Kendrick defending their WWE Tag-Team Titles against KC James and Idol Stevens (the future Damien Sandow), Rey Mysterio vs Chavo Guerrero in a Falls Count Anywhere match after Vickie Guerrero turned heel for the first time ever, and the return of Chris Benoit after a 5 month hiatus. The Marks (Troy & Greg) have fun going back to this one because it's seldom talked about, but is definitely well worth the watch.

This may have been basically a one-match show, but what a match it was! If you've never seen Christopher Daniels vs AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe, you need to stop everything you're doing and watch it immediately! It is definitely the greatest Triple Threat match of all time and is in contention for greatest match ever. Also on the card, Raven defends the NWA Title against Rhino, the Candido Cup & NWA Tag Titles are on the line in a 4-team elimination match, Abyss and Sabu try to tear each other apart in an Anything Goes match, and a young Austin Aries takes on a fresh-faced Roderick Strong. That and much more as the Marks (Troy & Greg) travel back to September of 2005 for this one!

The stories of Vince Russo running WCW are the stuff of legends. Not good legends...but legends. Kind of like the legends of the Trojans being fooled by a giant, wooden horse full of enemy soldiers, or that guy who was cursed by the Greek gods to have his kidneys repeatedly eaten out every single day by a bird. Ya know...tragic legends. But man, it's fun to look back on and laugh at! We are only covering from October 1999 until the end of January 2000 on this podcast, and that's plenty! This was Russo's first run as The Powers That Be. We never actually saw his face on camera, but he began his reign of terror and then took his ball, went home, and cried in January when he wasn't getting things his way. Check it out and laugh along to this tragic comedy known as WCW!

I wouldn't call this one a "classic," but it was definitely a much better than average show that hardly ever gets talked about. Rob Van Dam and Chris Jericho tear it up for the Hardcore Title, Shane McMahon & Booker T fight to take the WCW Title away from The Rock, there's some 4-team mayhem for the WWF Tag Titles, and Stone Cold defends his WWF Title in the main event against Kurt Angle. The Invasion is still going on here as The Alliance is being led into battle by Stone Cold with only the Olympic gold medalist standing in his way. Oh, and they're in Angle's hometown of Pittsburgh. Also, if you need a bit of a laugh, KroniK looks like they forgot how to wrestle as they take on The Brothers of Destruction for the WCW Tag Titles. That and much more on this historic review from 2 decades ago!

This was the first Fall Brawl without a WarGames match and the second-to-last Fall Brawl ever. The house was only about 50% full, and if you see this show, you'll know exactly why. And, this is was about 2 months before Vince Russo even gets ahold of this train wreck of a company! The Marks (Troy & Greg) have got a lot of news to bring you, from the death of Mark Curtis to the bleak beginnings of SmackDown and UFC and much more. And this is only to warm you up for a very underwhelming show that the Marks have fun laughing at.

Can you play mind games with someone who doesn't have much of a mind!? I don't know, but Shawn Michaels said something to this effect, and it was weird. This main event may be a somewhat forgotten classic, absolutely shattering all expectations as Mankind steps into the ring with WWF Champion Shawn Michaels in Mankind's first ever title match! Billy Gunn continues his infatuation with Sunny as the Smoking Gunns defend their Tag-Team Titles against Owen Hart & British Bulldog. Jim Cornette (after being knocked colder than a banker's heart by Jose Lothario) signed away contracts of his clients to Clarence Mason. The Undertaker does battle with Goldust in a Final Curtain match. This show also went down in Philadelphia, so you know the ECW faithful had to be heard (with some ECW wrestlers even being seen at ringside). The Marks (Troy & Greg) really have fun with this one, as it's not talked about a whole lot.

The nWo is runnin' wild, brother! Ted DiBiase and The Giant have joined and now it appears that...Sting has joined the New World Order!? Did the Stinger turn his back on WCW to join the Black & White? It sure seems like it! Or can you believe your lying eyes? War Games closes this show with Team NWO vs Team WCW, and Sting is the 4th team member on both sides! One of the Marks believe this was the greatest War Games match in WCW history. Do you agree? Also on the show is Macho Man vs The Giant, The Harlem Heat faces The Nasty Boys, Rey Mysterio defends his Cruiserweight Title against Super Calo, Chris Jericho goes head-to-head with Chris Benoit, and much more! All the while, the WWF is teasing the re-debut of Diesel and Razor Ramon. That's a bold move, Cotton! Let's see if it pays off for them.

This was Legend vs Icon as Shawn Michaels took on Hulk Hogan! This was the big, built up, main event of the evening. However, almost this entire show was great. If you skip the first couple of matches, no one would blame you. That adds up to a total of 5 minutes (not joking). After that, we've got an amazing WWE Title match between John Cena and Chris Jericho, Batista defending the World Heavyweight Title against JBL in a No Holds Barred contest, the Undertaker and Randy Orton having a WrestleMania 21 rematch, Eddie Guerrero doing battle with Rey Mysterio in a Custody of Dominik Ladder Match (yes, the custody of a child is on the line in a match), and much more! This show is often laughed at for Shawn Michaels' somewhat cartoonish selling, but that match was actually fantastic. Hear the Marks run this all down and tons of news before that!

In 2010, almost an entire decade after the closure of ECW, TNA Wrestling decided to resurrect the corpse of the South Philly, bingo hall, wrestling promotion and let it have one last run in the limelight...for one night only! However, due to copyright issues, many names were changed and the letters "E-C-W" could not be uttered or displayed. Most of these matches were...not good. Not even kind of, in a weird way, good. However, The Marks (Greg & Troy) try to make the best of this one and laugh along to this final run of what would become EV 2.0. Yeah...real name.
