Main Event Marks

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper was in WCW for one reason: To take the WCW Title off of Hollywood Hogan. But do Hogan and the New World Order have an ace card up their sleeves? At this event, (which Main Event Mark, Greg, was at live) he got that opportunity. Because the show took place at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, Piper decided to "get into the right headspace" by spending a week in the abandoned Alcatraz prison off the shores of SF. Also on the card, The Giant goes at it alone against The Outsiders, Kevin Sullivan and Chris Benoit went to war, Eddie Guerrero and Chris Jericho do battle for the US Title, Syxx attempts to win Dean Malenko's Cruiserweight Title, and much more! Also, in the news, we discuss Shawn Michaels losing his smile and surrendering the WWF Title, Ted Turner possibly being on Nitro, Thunder on its way to TV, Rocky Maiavia being pushed too hard and too fast, ECW on Monday Night Raw, Ken Shamrock maybe going to AJPW, and TONS more!

This was the one where Drew Carey entered the Royal Rumble. Yup... Other than that, though, it was a great show! On that fateful night in Louisiana, Kurt Angle defended his WWF Title against Triple H, the biggest wrestling stars in the world (Stone Cold, The Rock, Undertaker, Kane, etc.) entered the 30-man Royal Rumble match, Edge & Christian defended their Tag Titles against those damn Dudleyz, and much more. In January of 2001 was also when WCW and ECW were tanking and about to close their doors forever, so the Marks (Troy & Greg) discuss this at length in the news and notes segment for this episode.

THEY...ARE TAKING...OVER!!! No, not really. They were cool for a second, started falling apart within a month, and then were held together by chewing gum, duct tape, and safety pins for a few more months. Either way, it was considered a YUGE deal when the New World Order (Hollywood Hogan, Kevin Nash, & Scott Hall) all made their return to the WWE in early 2002. They instantly went after company top dogs, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. The Marks (Troy & Greg) discuss the contract negotiations, the "will they?" "won't they?" rumors, the backstage drama, and all the highlights and lowlights of the NWO's time in World Wrestling Entertainment.

Yee haw! This was a Dusty Rhodes creation all the way, inspired by the old west days of farmhands getting into fights at the bunkhouse. However, this show with a southern theme took place in Uniondale, New York...which is clearly well known for their cowboys. The rules of the match were "simple". You come as you are and you eliminate your opponents by throwing them out of a cage. Weird, right? Wait until you hear the Marks (Troy & Greg) lay this one out for you. There are also 3 other good matches on this card and one abysmal opener. In the news, The Marks run down the issues between the WWF and Jim Crockett promotions involving pay-per-view battles, JCP moving headquarters, the location of WrestleMania 4, and continued issues with the AWA being run terribly.

Do you remember the Rumble? This was the final year before the women of WWE got their very own Royal Rumble match. This one was pumped up as "the biggest Rumble in WWE history" (which had been used multiple times in the past) because the Undertaker, Goldberg, and Brock Lesnar were all entries in the 30-man match. Also on this card, Charlotte Flair defended her WWE Raw Women's Title against Bayley, Kevin Owens defended the WWE Universal Title against Roman Reigns in a No Disqualification match with Chris Jericho hanging above the ring in a shark cage, and AJ Styles puts on an absolute classic with John Cena for the WWE Title in one of the best wrestling matches of the year 2017! Hear all this, plus the Marks (Troy & Greg) discuss a big lawsuit in UFC, one of the most boring UFC shows of all time, Kurt Angle coming back to WWE after years away, and Impact Wrestling being sold to Anthem Entertainment.

The kick off 2007, Sting could sense "the good" within Abyss and tried to break James Mitchell's "spell" over him. Meanwhile, Christian Cage had his "problem solver" back by his side as Tomko joined TNA, and now, Christian has his eyes set on Abyss's NWA Title. This lead to the Three Way Elimination match that main events Final Resolution '07. On the undercard, Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle are 1-1, both determined to break the tie in a 30-Minute Iron Man match. To open the show, AJ Styles and Rhino face off in TNA's version of a Last Man Standing match (which is basically Texas Death rules) and we also see Alex Shelley & The Austin Starr face off in the Paparazzi Championship Series finals. The Marks (Troy & Greg) take time out to talk about what the late, great John Madden meant to them before talking about news and rumors heading into WrestleMania 23, Konnan's major surgery, talks of Bob Sapp stepping into a wrestling ring, Wrestling Society X kicking off, and much, much more on a very meaty episode!

While 1998 on the whole was a pretty good year in wrestling (maybe one of the best), WCW was about to go on a great, great decline. Goldberg was hot as hell, he was still on his streak, he defeated Hollywood Hogan for the WCW Title in the Georgia Dome, and now, Kevin Nash was heating up right on his heels with a win at World War 3. Besides that, the nWo Black and White was feuding with the nWo Wolfpack. This show opens strong, ends SHOCKINGLY, but all in all, this may have been one of the weaker Starrcade events. This podcast is a tad long, but there's A TON of news to cover that we think you'll all appreciate.

He's been on Vice's Dark Side of the Ring, he basically created wrestling conventions, he's interviewed some of the biggest names wrestling has ever produced, he's been on the radio, he's got a podcast, he's been in Major League Baseball, he's been in country music, and now...he's talking to the Main Event Marks (Troy & Greg)! They even speculate on what's yet to come in the wrestling world and the state of professional wrestling in late 2021.

SmackDown Live was the hot property and they were gonna show everything off in Human Demolition Derbies at the end of the calendar year back in 2016! AJ Styles puts his WWE Title on the line against Dean Ambrose in the main event TLC match only to have a shock interference determine who would walk out with the title. Carmella & Nikki Bella have a match that's best left forgotten. Randy Orton may have won Bray Wyatt's trust but he's still trying to bond with Luke Harper. The Miz attempts to shut up General Manager Daniel Bryan and prove his doubters wrong as he defends his Intercontinental Title against Dolph Ziggler in a Ladder match. And pre-The Man Becky Lynch puts her SmackDown Live Women's Title on the line in a Tables match against "The Goddess" Alexa Bliss. Also, in the news, the Marks (Troy & Greg) discuss what's going on with Linda McMahon at the end of 2016, Billy Corgan washing his hands of TNA, the Young Bucks signing some new contracts, the indy wrestling scene in the UK blowing up, and Connor McGregor getting licensed to box.
