Main Event Marks

It certainly was The Usual Suspects in the two World Title matches on this show, but they were so, so good! While Triple H, John Cena, & Randy Orton fought in a Triple Threat match for the WWE Title, the Undertaker and Edge competed for the World Heavyweight Title and to see whose WrestleMania undefeated streak would stay alive. World Champion boxer, Floyd "Money" Mayweather, also steps foot into the squared circle to take on the Big Show in the biggest celebrity WrestleMania match since Lawrence Taylor battled Bam Bam Bigelow in the main event of WrestleMania XI. On top of all that, "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair put his illustrious, legendary, Hall of Fame career on the line against "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels in a match that will live on in the hearts and minds of wrestling fans for eternity. In the news and notes, the Marks (Troy & Greg) discuss the pathetic lows that TNA sunk to during this time, some hilarious injuries that happened on live TNA pay-per-view, and a legend announcing his return to the ring......in the NWA......in 2008. All that and much more this week on the podcast!

The very first Clash of the Champions event happened in March of 1988 on cable TV to go head-to-head with WrestleMania IV, which was on PPV. Side-by-side, this was definitely the superior show with good matches, an amazing main event, and it launched Sting into the main event picture of the NWA. Not only is there a lot of stuff that the Marks (Troy & Greg) get to analyze and rundown on the show itself, but there is A TON (and I mean A TON) of news & notes to get to from around this time! Some is good, some is bad, and some is down right hilarious. That alone is worth the time you'll spend listening to this one (if I do say so myself).

Chants of "Fire Russo!" rained down in the Impact Zone when Sting and Abyss faced off in a Last Rites match. "What is a Last Rites match?" you may ask. It's a Casket match with more steps, stupid props, and Vince Russo's messed up brain behind it. Also on this card was an X-shaped Scaffold match known as Elevation X between AJ Styles & Rhino, a Tag-Team Ghetto Brawl between Team 3D & LAX (yeah, this was stupid and racist), the continuation of the stupid story between Christy Hemme and VKM, Kurt Angle & Scott Steiner having a great match, Chris Sabin defending the X-Division Title against Jerry Lynn, & Christian Cage defending the NWA Title against Samoa Joe. Soooo it wasn't all bad. But it was fairly hilarious. Troy & Greg have fun covering this one, plus TONS of pre-WrestleMania news for WWE and MMA world news from the spring of 2007.

Dedicated to the memory or "Da Bad Guy" Scott Hall. This was one of the Marks' most favorite WrestleManias of all time! It was the final run for Hollywood Hogan in the New World Order and it was the symbolic "passing of the torch" from Hogan to Rock, smack dab in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Also on this show, the Undertaker took on "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair in Flair's first real "return to form." Trish Stratus and Lita both attempt to dethrone Jazz as Women's Champion. The Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley and Triple H feud reaches a peak as Chris Jericho (with Stephanie in his corner) defends the Undisputed Title against Triple H. Stone Cold does battle with Scott Hall, who has Kevin Nash watching his back. Edge and Booker T also feud over a Japanese shampoo commercial. That part wasn't great, but what are you gonna do? There's also a ton of big news and "looking ahead" on this show!

This was better than '95 and '96, but what's that really saying? All in all, the history of WCW's Uncensored pay-per-views have been completely crap. This one was no different. However, the Marks (Troy & Greg) make this one friggin' fun, which is more than we can say about WCW's bookers. Eric Bischoff already took off for an extended vacation, Kevin Nash and Hulk Hogan were basically booking things, and the company was already circling the drain while WWF was riding high. On the card, Scott Steiner put his TV Title on the line against Booker T and Hollywood Hogan put the WCW Title on the line against Ric Flair (if Flair wins, he becomes President for life, but if he loses, he retires) in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage First Blood match. Yeah, it was a mess. On a positive note, we've got a boat load of news to bring you before we review the event! Remind us...why was this the WCW PPV competition to WrestleMania?

Bigger! Better! Badder! Live from the Pontiac Silverdome (BROTHER!!!), WrestleMania III broke indoor attendance records as the Irresistible Force met the Immovable Object! The immortal Hulk Hogan put his WWF World Heavyweight Title on the line against the legendary Andre the Giant! In the words of Gorilla Monsoon, it was a happening! The rest of the card was just kind of okay except for one other match on the card which is one of the greatest in WrestleMania history: "The Macho Man" Randy Savage vs. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat for the WWF Intercontinental Title! The Marks (Troy & Greg) run down what happened at this gigantic event as well as all the news leading up to it, what Uncle Dave Meltzer thought of it all, and what the hell was going on with Jim Crockett Promotions at this time.

For the 20th In Your House event, there was No Way Out of Texas! The main event was supposed to be the team of Stone Cold Steve Austin, Owen Hart, Cactus Jack, & Chainsaw Charlie (Terry Funk) taking on Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and the New Age Outlaws. But after Shawn Michaels injured his back at the Royal Rumble, he's out until WrestleMania 14. Someone else has to step in...and let's just say...the reveal is less than impressive. Also on this card, we see Kane and Vader do battle, The Nation of Domination try to stop from imploding, the NWA stable try to stay relevant with Jeff Jarrett leading the way, the Light Heavyweights in action, Marc Mero attempt to stop Sable from always stealing his spotlight, and Goldust just get weirder and weirder. This was a show sandwiched between two great pay-per-views and it wasn't blowing the doors off anything, but this certainly wasn't bad.

Dubbed "Royal Rumble Raw," this was the 1st ever 2-hour edition of Raw and featured the fallout from the 1997 Royal Rumble! Stone Cold Steve Austin was heating up, Sycho Sid was more over than he'd ever been, Bret Hart was hell-bent on getting the WWF Title back, the Undertaker and Mankind were in a blood feud, and Ahmed Johnson was looking for revenge against Faarooq and the Nation of Domination. WWF Champion Shawn Michaels was about to "lose his smile" the next Thursday and surrender the title, but that wasn't known here. Everyone is on a collision course for In Your House: Final Four! Join Troy & Greg as they review this big Raw from the Toronto Sky Dome and run down all the news and notes from the time!

At the beginning of 1996, WCW was riding high, WWF was coming back from their worst year to date, and ECW was only beginning to get extreme. To be blunt, this entire show was a damn mess. Most "matches" on this show lasted only a minute or two, there were quite a few messy segments, tons of swearing, Brian Pillman surprising everyone and threatening to urinate in the ring, and only one or two decent matches on this entire show. Dive head first into this one with the Marks (Troy & Greg) and see what the wrestling world was like in February of 1996.

After last month's Final Resolution PPV, Christian Cage is set to defend the NWA World Title against Kurt Angle in the main event. Scott Steiner just returned to the company and is backing Christian up along with Tomko and AJ Styles. That's not the only "big" story on this card, however, as Sting continues his crusade against James Mitchell in an attempt to "save" Abyss from the clutches of the devil himself. In yet another goofy freaking match, these two battle in a Prison Yard match where you have to lock your opponent in a shark cage to win. Besides that, we see AJ Styles and Rhino continue their feud, Jerry Lynn is still on a mission to prove he's not an old geezer as he takes on Chris Sabin for the X-Division Title, Team 3D battles it out with LAX in a Little Italy Street Fight, all-star baseball players participate in Basebrawl (real thing), and Robert Roode tries to take control of Eric Young's contract. That and much more in the news & notes from February of 2007!
