Main Event Marks

It's another bonus show! This time, we're going back to the summer of 1998 where WCW pulled an about face, having the undefeated United States Champion, Goldberg, take on Hollywood Hogan for the WCW World Title in the main event of Nitro. We discuss whether this was a panic move and whether it paid off or turned out to be dumb in the long run. There are quite a few other matches on this show with most not amounting to much. WCW is heavily building up the main event at Bash at the Beach with DDP and Karl Malone making their presences felt throughout the night. Scott Hall makes a surprise return to run defense for Hogan halfway through the night. Buff Bagwell address the crowd after nearly breaking his neck and becoming paralyzed. There's also so much more! In the news, we discuss the fallout from WWF King of the Ring, Ken Shamrock still being contracted to the UFC, ECW's growing pains, drama with the NWO Hollywood and Wolfpack backstage in WCW, and an infamous Japanese wrestler retiring after a career littered with assaults, shoots, and firings.

This may be considered a bit of a "sleeper" show. While the card wasn't loaded, it had enough on it to keep you interested and it's on the march to SummerSlam 2007! Due to Edge's injury at this time, he's out and now we get a Triple Threat for the World Title between Batista, Kane, and defending champion...*sigh*...The Great Khali. This is Bobby Lashley's second-to-last WWE appearance for over a decade as he takes on John Cena for the WWE Title. This is one of the final appearances for the Cruiserweight Title for almost a decade as Chavo Guerrero defends it in a Cruiserweight Open (basically a 6-pack challenge). We see the state of women's wrestling in 2007 and it's not good. The legendary Dusty Rhodes steps back into the ring for a Bullrope match against Randy Orton. Also, King Booker is continuing on his kingly reign of terror, demanding Triple H relinquish his title as "King of Kings" and Jerry Lawler stop referring to himself as "The King."

We're going back to the worst year in wrestling history. Every single American company was in the crapper throughout the majority of this year, and ECW was no different. Heat Wave: Rage in the Cage! was an interesting show in the way that it was incredibly hard to get through. If you're looking for good matches, great storytelling, or anything that resembled a coherent wrestling show, this is not for you. Troy & Greg held their noses through this one, but the worst shows are sometimes the most fun to review. They didn't have fun watching it, but they had tons of fun talking about it. Many of life's great questions are answered on this podcast as well, such as, "Who are Dudley Dudley and Snot Dudley?" "Was Disco Inferno ever in ECW?" "Can you lose a match from getting your balls squeezed?" "How long can a senseless brawl with tons of people go on for?" "How many times can you possibly book Raven on a single show?" and "When you put the Public Enemy and the Gangstas in a match together, which team will embarrass themselves more?" All of this and more is covered in this one! Come laugh along!

TNA Wrestling turned 10-years-old in June of 2012, and everything is bigger in Texas (including anniversaries)! For it's birthday/anniversary, the longest reigning TNA World Heavyweight Champion in history, Bobby Roode, defends the title against "The Icon" Sting the same night Sting is announced as going into the TNA Hall of Fame. Jeff Hardy, Rob Van Dam, and Mr. Anderson...Anderson all compete for the next in line for that World Title. Bully Ray seeks to brutalize Joseph Park, but will Abyss rear his ugly head? Gail Kim puts the Knockouts Women's Title on the line against Texas's own Miss Tessmacher. Also, WWE's Christian comes back for one night only...in the most anti-climactic way possible. On top of this, we cover what might be (wasn't) the end of Randy Orton in WWE, drama between Ken Doane, John Cena, and Mickie James, and yet another unhinged rant from Scott Steiner on Twitter.

Also...why is the owner of the Chicago Blackhawks in attendance? Why was the World Title match contract signing on his yacht? These questions are never answered! Are you looking forward to another classic Clash promo from "Dr. Death" Steve Williams? Neither are we, but we still got one! All of this is on the card plus much more! TNA Slammiversary V wasn't a show that exactly set the woods on fire, but overall, it was a pretty decent show. It was a time capsule of where TNA (now Impact Wrestling) was at the time. Can you believe they started in 2002 and are still around!? The main event is TNA's signature King of the Mountain match between Kurt Angle, AJ Styles, Christian Cage, Samoa Joe, and Chris Harris (replacing Jeff Jarrett). Jeff Jarrett couldn't attend the show after the passing of his wife, Jill. Rick Steiner also had to find a replacement partner as he took on Team 3D when Scott nearly died from a throat injury suffered in Puerto Rico. All of that is combined with Abyss and Tomko having a ridiculous No Disqualification match that you have to see to believe. In the news, we cover that along with WWE legends going into real estate (you'll never guess who), a WWE and WCW legend wanting back in the big leagues after a disgusting injury just 6 years prior, Jackass joining forces with WWE, and much more!

Back in 1992, WCW was an interesting place. Ric Flair, who was the hood ornament for WCW for years was now in the WWF. Ricky Steamboat was back, Sting stepped up as a top guy, and Rick Rude came into the "company down south" to be a main eventer. Also, while the WWF's leader was constant with Vince McMahon, WCW was on their 3rd (maybe 4th?) leader within the last few years with Bill Watts at the helm. In the news, the World Bodybuilding Federation was tanking, Lex Luger was in a major motorcycle wreck, the future Razor Ramon and Yokozuna come into the WWF, a future Mexican legend makes his in-ring debut, Sid can't find a job, and more!
